Performance Question

Okay, I've been wanting to try vanguard for almost 2 years now. I dont have the most up to date system though. Right now im running on a 3.05 P4 CPU,1.5G ram, Nvidia Geforce 5500Fx Oc.

I was wonder if it would be at all playable? I've heard some bad things about performance. Also, if anyone could show me what it looks like on the lowest setting thatd be helpfull. Thanks

The video card isn't going to cut it. It isn't really compatible, much less able to handle the load.

My friend has a very similar system, but upgraded to an nVidia 7800GS and finds it very playable. Another great choice is the ATI x1950Pro if your psu can handle the specs.

You won't be able to play at the highest settings. However, you should have some decent eye candy and performance enough to play decently.

Sorry to say but i feel your whole system needs to either be upgraded or replaced if possible  with a new system, don't think 1.5Ghz would do, think minimum would atleast be 2.0 Ghz and only a card change will not help much with that CPU you already have. Keep in mind some new future game coming at us this year which might be intrested to you aswell.

I sometimes see people having AMD 3500 with a 7900GT 512mb wich also is a very bad system, the balance between CPU and graphic card are very importetent else people create lots of bottlenecks wich give them with some games bad performance, while most of the time this has to do with system config, but not many seem to know that, especialy when you read  sys.specs. of some gamers on these forums and they dare to blame it on the game. Not saying Vanguard hasn't got performance isseus, but the last weeks they seem to be more client side then game side, i actualy never since the first patch crashed to desktop, this is definitly something with people's system, else i would crash just as much as every else that keeps saying they crash so often, the only noticeble bug i'm currently still seeing is the zone chuncks that only take my invis away and give me in some parts of Telon some hickup for 1/2 secondends, only 1 time i lost all my buffs when chuncking but that was somewhere in the first 2 weeks after release never since except the invis and 1/2sec deley. But i also have to say i have not grouped for about 2 weeks and also do not play on pvp realms  so if those crashes still occure it might be something to do with being in group or pvp these last weeks, but i said this before i read more about the bugs then i actualy experiance them ingame.

I'm able to run the game with out too many problems on my older system. Now I have the graphics turned down and had to play with configuration a little, but find it quite playable with the most problems happening only when passing through the zone chunks or in a town (lag). Grouping hasn't been much problem for me either. I run a P4 3.07, 1 G ram, 6200 OC card. I'm sure you noticed from the numerous posts on the subject that it seems every system runs this game differently. My advice would be to install game and give it try, it seems to be the only sure way to see if your system can handle it or not. But I'll tell this, that I can't wait til I have the money for a new system to take advantage of the graphics with this and newer games to come.

your system should "run"  the game. but you're going to need to turn everything down to minimum/highest performance settings and the game is gonna look craptastic at these settings. If you do go ahead and buy be sure to defrag after installation. Make sure you have the latest dx9 and the latest driver for your video and sound card. If you have onboard sound disable it.

Your system can run it, but hitching will become your new best friend.  VG is extremely demanding on systems (for a smooth gameplay experience) and according to Sigil, they arent going to improve that, they are just going to wait for everyone to upgrade systems with technology that doesnt exist yet.

Thanks for your input everyone. I think I may just buy the game and give it a try. When I bought eq2 I didn't expect to run it well, and I can run it on balanced with minimal to no lag, surprisingly.
