Yes, this is the first official smack talk thread about PotBS! Beta is underway and keys are going out to lucky fans and contest winners.
Knowing that most people will play as pirates or british, I have moved my guild to Spain. Capt. El "Pollo Loco" and my band of crazy mates of the guild "son diablo" plan on taking over all ports!
Let the pvp talk and proclimations start here
PS Cuba will never fall to the likes of pirates!

No it will not, seeing as in 1720 it was still called Hispanola, but you playing for Spain, and it being a colony there of... Of course you knew that, and were just testing us....
Good luck with the Spain thing, it's good to see others not fall for the England might, or pirate flavor. I'd offer to come and sail with you, but alass my home port will be Martineque.

Well when I spoke with the devs they said that more and more people where pouring into pirate every day, with all the remainder going to english. No big deal to me, I play an underdog in every game I go to. outsider in UO, Midgard DAoC and Horde in wow, so spain suits me fine. Underdog pvp is always more fun, it gives us a target rich enviornment.
On top of all that, my spaniard coat just looks so much cooler than an english hat or a pirate eyepatch ever could... and did I mention I get to start in CUBA!?

Yes England will be swarming with the most numbers, just take a look at the number of guilds housting the union jack as of now in the official forums.
I see pirates getting alot of short term players who will then switch out once they realize the limitations and challenge facing them. Still there will always be a steady supply of fresh meat to hoist the black.

Hmm saw this post and thought " You know he is right. Everyone wants to be english or a pirate."
So i went and updated my beta application to " I wanna be french".
Who in there right mind wants to be french? But i will beta test the retreat button i guess.

Also, Spain has the best resource setup for the economy in the game. I know this because I just did a tuning pass through all the resources available to each nation at the start of the game.
have any of the contest winners gotten into beta yet?
I won a key but have yet to hear back from them.
I registered submitted my DXDiag report and all that but haven't heard from anyone.

I have met the CEO, lead designer and talk to the media relations rep about 2 times a week and I am stil waiting on my beta account to be actiated (6 months, yes I am a true fan)
But I have the beta keys for my guild and we plan on beta testing spain and staying spain for live. Already outnumbered on beta 3/1! Its ok though, Captain El Pollo Loco just loves a target rich enviornment.
My fleet and I may spare perhaps a few french we see, you know, fellow underdogs banding together and all, but all Skull and cross bones or ships with people having tea&crumpets on the deck? Ready the cannons!
