So much for Open Beta

I log in and it comes up no servers available, and yes I have registered my beta key.

I had thought Turbine would have been better than this.   Hope this is not indicative of the game,

I understand this is your first beta. Get used to it. And have fun when the servers are up.

    The servers are up.

If I use my closed beta login, all the servers list as closed. Log in under a different account I created this morning? All servers up and running.

Some fine thanks for testing their game.

It's easy to think that an open beta is 'free'.  It's not really free,  server downtime is on of the prices that is paid.

If you want the servers to be always up (or at least where you have more grounds to complain if they're not) then wait a couple of weeks for the retail.

If the servers are like this when they game goes retail then we can set all the LotRO forums aflame :)

The servers have been up all day - in fact they seem to be running great, though there are short wait queues on a few.  There have been a lot of people confusing closed beta with open, though - you have to re-register an open beta key to play, even if you had a closed beta account.  Try going to the world tour site and getting an open beta key, you should get right in.

When scary things get scared, that's bad...

The servers have been up all day, they even added a few more. Unfortunately the server I chose, Brandywine, is now one of the more popular servers and has a login queue every time I try today.

Back to WOW for me.  The forced linear tutorial, short as it is, just leaves a bad taste; makes me think this games controls your character's direction as much as you to.

Maybe someday, designers will get it right.

I sort of remember that you can choose to skip the tutorial when you talk to the first guy.

Skipping the tutorial wont change the fact that the game somewhat does control your way through it. He is right, it does kinda lay down the road for ya, one of the things I dislikes aswell.

Bye! Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I honestly hope nobody who likes WoW comes over to LOTRO. I may have to leave then.

Looks like we need a nickname for LOTRO fanboys. I mean Vanguard has Vanboys, what does this game have?

In what way does it control your character ? Seriously have you gotten past the intro or noob areas yet ? Once you clear the noob intro and zone the world is pretty much open to you and if you want to quest in the Shire rather then in dwarf or elf zones you can. I think the starting intro and zones were done very well in regards to introducing players to the world, story line and overall game.

Of course you just need to know how to get there but that isn't to hard if you know how to use a map. I just don't see how this is a valid argument especially when you can skip it over. Then again if you don't like linear game play why the hell are you playing WoW??? I'd of given you credit if you said you liked EvE or Saga of Ryzom more then LOTRO because I would at least know you're a person who enjoys true sandbox MMO's.

Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

    Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:

    GW2 (+LoL and BF3)

So LOTRO fanboys are called "adults"? Very good nickname indeed, it's just that it's not very useful. If I'm referring to a LOTRO fanboy and say "adult" instead I do believe the most persons would be kind of confused. You don't got any better name?

Well, seen a lot of these reactions, lately. And it makes me wonder.

I played many MMORPG's but they are all using the same system with level advances.

Obviously starting at level 1, getting quests from NPC's and killing mobs around that level. You can level by yourself or group with others.

When level 10, get level 10 quests and kill mobs around that level. And it goes on and on and on. So basically every game somewhat controls your way.

Like GW this game has a story to tell and it needs an order to make sense. So that is linear. I don't know if you need to play that questline tho (if someone could answer this that would be cool). Apart from that questline, I was able to travel freely around the maps tho.

I respect your opinion but still I am very curious what you want in a game and which game gave you the freedom you wanted?
