I have searched the lotro forums and these forums and been unable to find an answer as to what kind of clothes and character customisation is available in this game?
In Lord of the Rings (film) there is a wide variety of different clothes, are you able to pick and choose different clothes and colours for your character to make them look good (Like SWG) or are you simply restricted to a set choice of clothes and colours, then forced to simply choose the clothes with the most effective stats (like WoW)?
Are the tailors in this game able to create a wide variety of clothes in different colours, or are they resticted to just making set clothes and colours with the best set stats that go with that type of clothing? Are there classes that are unable to or dont need to wear armour to survive?
Thanks for any information :-)

Such a shame, especially with all the costumes form the films that are available to put into the game.
What is the best class to go that isnt restricted to being made to wear the best ugly looking armour? is it loremaster?
Priests in WoW, while still not being given a totally free choice at least could choose from a few different looks as apposed to just armour.

As i write this post it is snowing in the dwarf lands lol , awesome, but back to the post, the armors aren't given to you , you have to go find pieces you want , either through auction house or quests as well as the best pieces which will be crafted later in the top levels.
So if you are looking for a, "I want it all now" type of game and items, you will not find it in LotRO. This game is for the real mmo players who understand the balance of great gameplay , lore and the fundamentals of great game design and concept. The Armors fit with in the realm of LotRO seemlessly .
Good luck in your next game though, hopefully you find a lore and gameplay that suites you
who me ?
You do realize this game is based on the books and not the movie right? Peter Jackson did a good job at paint his vision of LOTR but in the end it was his vision and not a complete translation of Tolkien's works.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:
GW2 (+LoL and BF3)
which in my opinion make it 1000 x better because the books were just so much better than the films
Currently Playing: Nothing
Cancelled: WoW, COH/COV
Looking Forward To: LOTRO
Preorderd: LOTRO

I haven't really seen any great CC in any of the recent MMO offerings lately to right home about. Especially in the fantasy genre of MMO's. I think EvE Online and CoH/V has had the best CC out there right now and for long time.

So what were the films based on?
The art design in the game is one group's interpretation of the words of Tolkien. The art design on the films is another group's interpretation of the exact same source material.
The only difference is who was on those teams. I'm not too familiar with the Turbine team, but the lead designers for the movies were Alan Lee en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Lee
and John Howe en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Howe
The numerous awards and amount of experience they each have drawing Middle Earth makes me think they might know what they're doing. Now keep in mind we're only talking about the look of the two versions of Middle Earth. The story told in the films is not a factor to this debate.
The most important part of reading is reading between the lines.

Thanks for the info and screenshots people.
I'd just like to point out though that I'm not a 'core hater' or whatever it is that one or two people seemed to label me when they saw my question. Im just a potentially new player thats just taking a look at the game for the first time asking about character creation and clothing.
Character creation and customisation options are just one of the things that pull me into a game. However it seems I was spoiled with old style SWG, the only thing that has come remotely close is COH and even COH isnt quite on a par with SWG.
I just wondered how good this game was with that side of things, I'm getting the message from a few replies that its nothign groundbreaking in this respect, however even so the game looks fantastic and I'm fairly sure I'm going to preorder. Im really looking forward to it.
Thanks again.

And here how the game really looks like when you play:
Also I have two more questions if anyone could answer.
It says with the special edition pre-order pack you get 45 days of free play, does the standard pack not come with any free time?
The LOTRO forums, everytime I try to register for them it says administrator has locked registration, do you have to be in the beta to post in them now?

OMG theres a UI??????
Is it just me, or do all the characters in the last few screenies seem to be levitating above the ground a little?
During beta, I found the armours to be a little too 'pastel coloured' making the world seem too nice.
Tolkien's world was a hard and dangerous place not a fairy tale picture book.
However, having seen some of the hi res render screenshots, they have improved a great deal.
