Who here has played this game for a real long period of time, but decided to quit, and why?

I played from OB to December 2005, so 22 months. Late November of that year my guild was part of an Alliance raid on Antharas and I said to one of my guildies "Well, thats it. Ive done everything I wanted to in this game." It was only a throwaway comment meant as a joke but for 3 days afterward I found I had no motivation to log into game.

When I did log back in, it was to spend the usual time in the usual room of the usual dungeon - HV Path Cata/Necro - and it all just seemed such an anticlimax. The botters and farmers had always bothered me but I found myself more and more sickened everytime I saw a gang o' six stuck on a wall somewhere. Id also spent some time on the Test Server when Kain was playing up for me and the difference between PvP there and on the live servers is enormous...nothing else can reinforce quite how badly L2 PvP has been effected by the cheats as much as some time in the "cheat-free" zone.

All in all, we - my non-cheating RP guild and I - had a good run. We'd worked hard, bought a guild hall, helped our alliance take a couple of castles and keep them.  My sub ran out on the 25th December and letting it lapse was probably the best Christmas present I could have given myself.

I have very fond memories of L2, made some life-long friends there and have not ruled out the possibility of playing it again in the far future...maybe when L3 comes out and the pro-farmer/cheater population move on to that world.

If 2005 was the last time you logged in, the game has changed a LOT since then.  thats over 1 year ago.  you missed 2 chronicles or was it 3?

The bot population has been severely dealt with.  I am not saying there isn't bots anymore but they are definitely less and found if very _remote_ or unpopulated areas (more farmers than bots).

Also there is a rumor that C7 or a patch before C7 will introduce a new playable race.  We are all assuming that the are the Arteias, the winged race.

I quit this Nov for good. I played on and off for over a year. I got an awesome run but like everything else it just got old, I played it the longest of all the MMO's I played. I was a bit burned out and was tired of the money grind mainly. I miss the community something terrible though.

I don't think L2 was "once great",  it still is and still evolving into a better game with each expansion. It has continuous subscription growth as testament to that.

Ive played on and off since North American Closed Beta. It is still great but I am burned out... again... I always say I am going to leave for good but I end up coming back lying to myself. I ain't lying about this though, the best time of this game though was definitely Closed Beta and Open Beta, I do not know if it is was because I had 3-4 RL friends playing with me or just the fact that everyone was a noob and it was so care free.  Right now, some things in L2 are changing for the better but other parts are worse.

I've been playing since Open Beta, I've had to hang up the sword and board on a number of occasions as I got sent to the sandbox. Currently doing my 3rd stint so I haven't been able to log in since Oct 06 and we've got a few more months to go. I've kept the acct going in hope that I can get on to L2 in when we're inside the wire but the welfare networks are firewalled against one of the ports required by gameguard .  I'm  looking fwd to getting back into it when I return.

Oh yeah that is exactly what I miss the most.

I remember traveling in my mid thirties, only to be ganked by a few passing idiots around the 50's.

Next thing I knew a guild came out from the distance and slaughtered them, offered me a place in the guild, and from then on it was gold. I decided to go back to WoW because my friends had a decent guild going and I didn't want to not play with them.

The bots in the game are horrible compared to most. And it's sad.

The game itself is decent however. There are certain things that I just loved about it. Namely the graphics, the interface, the classes, and the community.

The community is definitely nice, probably 99% of guilds will help you out if you are in trouble. I remember being lvl like 12 and getting pked, I called some clannies that I died in Gludin and a bunch came and I created a small battle , that was fun. One thing I do not like right now is that people can easily bypass the penalities of being red. They can just do bsoes into clan hall/castle and then get brezed there, .

I played first played on a private 4X server... then played on official for almost 1 year on C3-C4. I have to say it was a good community and I made many friends, but as I reached lvl 74 I found out that there's not much to do... I guess a clan war was good, but on official ppl are to scared to risk losing lvl so I got bored and sold my account, I was a SH.

The fun part about Lineage 2 and most MMO's is the hard road of getting to that level cap, after that the game starts to get boring... it's like a journey walked for the journey itself.

I tried other MMo's like WOW and most of the new BET ones, but they all disapointed me. None are as violent and as cunning as L2.

So what did I do? I FOUND PRIVATE SERVERS... THE BEST ONES FOR REAL FUN... that's where the game transformed from a hard road of XP farming into the most violent adventure I ever had in a MMO.... played on Dragon 10X which had the official gameplay  introduced (unlike most bugged private servers) and some special features like stakable sub... lol made fast lvl (cos I had many friends on that lvl) all the road solo pvp, mass pvp on a huge schale... 7 clans (I was in this aliance)  vs 21 clans vs 4 clans... the fun thing was that my clan had over 150 players at one moment....  and this was no half hour war with 2 major fights then peace like on official servers... it was n undeclared war for 2 months, then after our ally splited in 7-4 started the declared 1 month war... at the hight of OPEN WAR between the 3 huge aliances I made about 600 pvp's in a week and lost about 3 lvl's it was war on all fronts and zones... to bad the FBI closed down the server.

You know what the funny part was? right before the server closed... the 21 clans ally was dismembered, our 7 ally suffered too but we gained 5 more clans from the enemy, and the 4 clan ally was the most victorious with some great coordonation, strategy like (spies, PK enemy at Raids, mob killing with dagger class and pp, and efficient flank atacks)

Soveja, you do know they added a lot to official now.

Level cap is 80, which I think is insane, but anyway. At level 75 you can subclass, which is pretty fun. Being an Elven Destroyer kicks butt!

Also third class change at level 76, and the new nobless abilities, along with the chance of being a hero.

Sorry, don't wanna hijack. I still play this game since I think January 05 or something like that...

Haven't logged on in 3 weeks...the so-called "political intrigue" is just too middle school cafeteria, (immature, out-of-control, mindless PvP) for me..and many of my old running buddies have moved on, thus leaving me quite alone although I am part of a well-established alliance.

I actually don't think this is true.

In L2, since there are no instances, you can see them.

However, even now, all the servers have been "light" as NC has gone a bit crazy with the ban hammer. I rarely if ever see bots anymore. Doesn't mean they aren't there, but not as bad as they used to be.

And yes, the community is great. I dare say, in many instances, more mature (and with less whining) than other games.

Chivaly is not dead ! It will usually be ebodied by most knights which you shall meet in the world of Aden. Alas cruel fate its the knights themselves who are a rare breed on Aden ;), but with the coming of Interlude there may be some hope for us yet.

Well I agree with you, but back in the day the bots were terrible and they were not dealt with. They were just freely running around starter towns in trains of 5 or more back then lol. I'm glad NC put their foot down, because now I am playing again.

NCsoft put their foot down ? .. Im curious what server you play on. There are regular bannings of bots, some bigger then others. People get their hopes up after being in catas for a few days w/o seeing any bot groups. But you know what ? - They will be back, there has been a demand for adena since the game went live in 2004 and I dont see anything changing this. What needs to be done is get GameGuard working like it should, blocking all 3rd party software and not just make the game more laggy/buggy.

They are certainly not as bad now, but yeah I don't doubt they will be back in droves soon enough. I also wish gameguard would do it's job. As of right now I have no idea why it is even used. Right now though they arn't near as bad as before, but they're just something all games have to live with one way or another.

L2 is not the only game that is infested with bots.

It was the most annoying for sure but NCSOFT has to its credit, did a lot to combat this problem and reduced the bot population severely.  You can really only find them in very _remote_ areas or areas that are practically deserted anyway.

Hey be glad NCSOFT has taken steps they did to reduce the botting population.  Its a good thing and hope they keep doing it.  You think WoW doesn't have bots or other games?  think again.  Now, at least Lineage 2's bot problem is on par with problems of bots in other games.  Before it was waaaay worse.
