If any of you have has ever watch any of the .Hack// series or ever played the games for the PS2, you'll noticed that the anime is based on a virtual reality mmorpg.
The World is the name of the game in the Anime
It's for the computer (dont know what interface) and it uses a headgear and a nifty game control that kinda looks like a cross between Xbox and PS2. What's more nifty about "The World" is that, yeah you'll create you're own character, but... they way you like it, so in other words, you create the hairstyle, what kind of clothes, attribute class, weapon class ecetera ecetera. Other then actually seeing the person's PC (Personal Character) You'll have a mic to be able to converse with them. I just find the Anime and the game all together intersting.
I find it a very interesting game, that hopefully one day will be able to become and actual game in our reality.
What do you guys think of "The World" actually being a real game, for use to play and converse.

If they ever do end up creating a .hack game...Let me be the weapon modeler

oh yah...and I should probably add that I hope they do not ever create a hacksign mmorpg..The game itself(in the anime) is portrayed as a game that is the best of the best, and nothing could ever top it...If it were to enter the real world, we would all see that its just another mmo like the rest and it would lose its ....*spark*, or..... mysteriousnes.
Hi! My name is paper. Nerf scissors, rock is fine.
MMORPG = Mostly Men Online Roleplaying Girls

Omg I love that show.
But they are accually coming out with another .hack game for the PS2. And this time it's online. I think you get to pick your class and whatnot to. But i don't know when it's coming out. I heard about it like...last year i think.
Imagine a game.
Without the story of .hack (no, its not possible irl)
With random generated dungeons, so there is no world to explore
Nothing to do at all except finding weapons and leveling in dungeons
voilá, your the world mmo
seriously, .hack should stay an animé and game. if you take away the story in .hack, then you will see there is not much left.
I've seen ALL series of that and I really love it...can't get enough..;)
Of course...this would happen to any other game. Unfortunately we have a lot of games like that..no content..no story...just boring mindless stuff. Facing that I wouldn't wonder if they offer a new mindless game by raping the .hack-saga...but I would never play such a game. And of course I want to see the real game of "The World" ...who wouldn't like to see that?
If they do it right, such a game would be magnificent...
A .hack// mmo would be really cool but without the story line it would blow my brains out, the only way it could be really awsome is if the game had AI or a GM going around a paralel world of the game in an Aura character with the Key of Twillight and making the game with bugs purpesly and maybe even when your character died the computer screen would flash brightly or something like that to put you in a coma, but that last part would in reasult in some searious legal problems.
.HACK//GU adoptation into a real life mmorpg (The world R:2) is possible provided the developers go very very carefully at it and MUST have weekly or bi-weekly events in order to peak interest in the game.
Must have features:
- Quest unlockable Class (just like in the PS2 game) if you play an adept rogue you can unlock multiclassing options after completion of a quest.
- Random generated dungeon is a welcomed change. Remember Diablo and Diablo 2 ? Randomly generated dungeons are so much fun because you can never expect what "surprises" to find in there. That's why Diablo series games sold so well because there's something new after your 1000th dungeon run.
- Guild Houses / Guild Areas is a must have.
- Personal / Area wide events : You can get a random personal quest given to you which result in a good xp/rare item reward upon completing it. EQ2/WoW has the right idea (random quest item drops). Limited area wide events that are random generates excitement.
- High level caps. The level cap in .hack//GU is Level 150 by then only very few dedicated people have reached that level due to the insane XP grind. By then your avatar is pretty much god like and only the strongest enemies in the game can even hurt you.
- In .hack//GU level power difference is huge between a level 5 and level 10 players. Perhaps such difference can be enforced by dividing population into level brackets (just like in the game there are levels servers for newbie/beginners, intermediate, high level and top level characters to "live in"). Example: Alpha server is for newbie players 1 -30, Beta is for 31-60, Delta for 61-90, Gamma for 91-120, Omega for 121-150.
- To pvp or not to pvp. I suppose being .hack//GU is a pvp game (where you can get ganked anywhere outside the cities).
