56k Worthy?????

in Final Fantasy XI

I have decided to get Final Fantasy XI.....but for now i have a 56k modem...that will change soon but i really want to get into the game now.....is it worth at all to start the game before i get my cable modem set up????

    I've heard it runs fine on 56k, but you'll have to wait a few hours to download the HUGE patch before you can start playing.

    Few hours my ass, it took me 12 hours over 56k.  Thats TWELVE hours.  Rediculous.  I wouldnt have been as bothered if the game was actually good...

    how big was the patch MB wise?

    I'm not sure how big the patch is, but it's not really the patch that's the problem.  The problem is that the game does a complete file check and that is what takes up the majority of the time.  It took about 2 hours on my DSL just because it took so long to file check.

    If you have a 56k, you should not be playing multiplayer games. Its time to nag your parents for cable/dsl.
