ok i just found this forum like 2 weeks ago. i had no idea that there was a forum to hate sony all day and was lol when i found it. anyway i saw someone mention the trial going on and morbid curiosity got the better of me. now i was never going back to swg and do still hate sony but the fact is i been playing 4 days now and have seen only 2 bugs (not game killers) and have been having loads of fun. imagine my surprise.

of course all the old memories came flooding in at first but as i played more i found that all my quests were working and truth be told they were not the boring crap that used to be. and the best part i discovered was that when the quests branch i didnt have to waste time going back to my quest giver to go further. i was given a dispatch for the next part and just continued on. imo this is a wicked update to their quest system and keeps you moving forward instead of back and forth. i also did the jabba line of quests and surprise surprise they've been updated too. no more escort bs just straight up killin. and not the same crap quests they were before either. the quests were totally acceptable and comparable to anything the great wow has to offer.

i swear i went into the game expecting to hate it like i did the day i left but frankly i keep being surprised by things i am liking. i mean i even said here on these boards last week that i'd never play it again but i tried it anyway and cannot believe how much fun i am having. sure it's not the same game anymore and truthfully it's barren in most places but i think if more vets changed their attitude and just gave the game a fresh start they might be just as surprised as me. i didnt feel the game needed to be gutted but right now they got it working. is it fun for all? i'm not sure but i do know i am having a blast and reliving memories i thought long dead. i think more vets just need to get around the old way syndrome cuz the old way doesnt look to be coming back. as of now i am fine with that. at first i thought i would never be but after the past few days i like what i see and would not want the old way back. especially when it looks like they got this thing working right for once.

last but not least i do not work for sony and hate them as much as most of you. if any of you still feel strongly about the hate keep it i dont really care one way or the other. but if any of you have even a speck of curiosity i'd say dlo the trial and see whats what. the worst you'll do is waste some time and need to uninstall when you're done. but who knows some of you might get bit like i did cuz as of now i am resubbing my main asap. (i lost my sn/pw and emailed sony to try and find out what they were) but even if i cannot get my main back i am gonna keep the trial toons i made and keep truckin cuz there is mad stuff to do on the way to 90.

the game is never gonna be perfect and this is what i finally realize. but i have missed it so since i've been gone and right now i cannot complain about anything other than the low pop on all servers. other than that i am having a blast again playing the "new" swg. i lowered my expectations and forgot about the old ways long enough to get hooked on what it is now. it works for me.

that said i wont post here anymore cuz i am no longer a refugee and do not wish to cause any flamage. i just wanted to pass along this brief experience just in case any one of you needs a push in that direction to make up their mind. just put down your hate for a few hours, forget the old swg, start a new toon and experience the game all over again from a new perspective. you may just be surprised as me. either that or you'll write me off as some crazy fanboi and sink back into missing a game universe you wanna play in as much as i do. stop missing it and give it a whirl! peace.

I did the same thing, i returned after a long time. The difference was that i hate it. Just the look of the combat make me sick and dont reminds me for a second about star wars. Back in pre cu i didnt even had to fight myself to enjoy combat, it was great to just look at other people fighting. I could write side after side about what i hate with the NGE, but thousands of people have already explained that over and over again for a year (2 years counting CU). Im glad for you anyway, that you have found peace and can enjoy that game.

I envy anyone who can find a game that they can enjoy, because I have yet to since SWG was raped by the Combat Dumb-down.

If it seems strange to you (if you played pre-cu), then it is probably looking near psychotic for people who have never played Pre-CU to see that on quite a few different forum sites there are large communities of gamers who still discuss what has been gone for a very long time now.

It is amazing that a video game has affected so many people in such a way. The game was something that a lot of us truly enjoyed because of the magnitude, complexity, and player-community driven content. That was taken away from us for reasons based on greed when WoW took in so many subscriptions and the people making the management calls for SWG decided they needed to convert the game into an incomplex game that the younger crowds didn't find so challenging.

I wish you all the best in your gaming and hope you enjoy it. Maybe one day I can find a game that fits my list of requirements too:

My list of things I will be watching to see if they build into a game:

    #1 PvP, PvE, and RP

    #2 Player housing

    #3 Player owned cities

#4 Player or player city owned faction bases that can be defended and/or destroyed if they are not defended.

#5 Crafting and player owned vendors

    #6 Factions

    #7 Guilds

    #8 Skill based templates

That is what I hope to find.

    1badjedi,

The true question is what would you prefer to play, pre or post NGE?

from what i've done so far and seen ingame i'd rather play this. the people who are playing seem to be constantly fighting in the streets. imo this is what it was meant to be. this game is about a war and players are certainly at war on my old server. it wasnt like that before. very rarely would you see an actual battle break out. i like pvp and it looks to be real happening right now in swg.

anyway the game wasnt always for everyone and it remains so. mmo's are what you make them from what i've seen. all i can say is i wanna play a sw mmo and this one is the only one around. i got lucky and hooked up with some old guildies so i wont even have to go this alone. and really that's what i came back for. my homies are still there and they are great folks. even if it's just us having a great time in theed can WE'RE STILL GONNA BE HAVING A GREAT TIME!

it's the people man not the game. i got friends to go back to and it's gonna be awesome to catch up and reminisce old times while having new ones. imagine that.

Not to sound rude but did you play old SWG? Did you ever see the epic 40 man on each side pvp battles in Anchorhead that took place almost daily? I couldn't land in Theed without seeing at least 6 people fighting unless it was 4am and servers were about to go down. I remember setting my day around when the base was gonna be attacked to be destoryed so I can defend, and then soiling myself as I saw 35 members of another guild come running over the mountain near the crystal swamps screaming their battle crys.

SWG always had PVP and def. had WAR.

Yet in your original post you state that you "lowered your expectations".

You've basically accepted mediocrity, which is exactly what SOE was counting on.

This appears to be a easy one, because it also appears you have not or did not play in the pre-cu era, or were successful.

Explains alot, even my 8 year old son could do well in the NGE, with that said... this version of the game may be more suited for your level of gameplay.

I know other younger kids that do well in the NGE, no risk, no worry, no reading, no loss, no hardships or real goals, in fact you dont even need credits really.

PvP is a joke, whap whap, arcade style with no animations that look half way decent, not to mention that there is not many people playing compared to the epic battles we once had.

SO yes, I could see how some people, do like it -- Easy play, no compition, no real risk factor or challenge.  Hence why they made the NGE for the younger crowd.    Theed had like 15 people in it when I logged in on Bria with my trial.   So yeah... if that is good to you then... super..

At one time the game was a challenge and was complex with a market... now?  Now you have people dueling you with a force pole arm in Eisley...

    Outstanding...

Now ask yourself did I lie?  Am I making this up?   Was the NGE not made to be a easy gameplay?  ---  Like I said, ---outstanding.

Is Luke Skywalker still your Jedi characters "level" progression?  I freaking hate!  Hate the Jedi in this game and time period. I hate it so much I'd sooner play Star Wars Rebellion to get my star wars fix then that lame busted PoS game.

The entire method of progression and levels and caps is straight up and down stupid and I find them unimaginative, and boring.

Every single level based game has the same exact fatal flaw to being enjoyable.  The minute you are a few levels above the curve of the content it is not ever worth playing.

No decay, lack of player economy.  All the things that once made this game even remotely worth playing is gone.

However, if you like it fine.  Just don't sell people on its better then the previous version because that is an outright minority opinion that is basically a lie.

I agree with OP. The game is fun now, and thats all that matters. Kind of wish all the ol' timers were struck with alzheimers so they can forget about SWG completely and get on with there lives. Oh well, not all things are that blissful.

I enjoy undercutting people in the market place - it's the only PvP a crafter gets.

I still can't believe people continue to miss the point of why many people quit when the NGE was released.

Hint: It has something to do with the way SOE treated their playerbase.
