I love and will probably play both.

But Warhammer is my original board game even though I think the Wahammer 40K online community is bigger.

I was drawn to Warhammer 40k before Warhammer Fantasy way back when I was table-top gaming, but I have to say I prefer the Warhammer universe for a MMORPG simlpy because it has some elements of humor and light-heartedness.

The WH 40k universe seems like it's unending horrible grimness without respite.  Which is cool for a table-top game, but if I created an RPG character in the 40K universe I'd propbably have to kill myself after playing for an hour simply to escape that harsh, unforgiving  world

I prefer Warhammer. I'm more for the fantasy RPG games where u stand on earth... You understand what I mean

    Both, yeah!

Voted Fantasy just 'cause I like the TT better than the 40k one, though.

    Swords or Chainswords?

    40k all the way.

  • KlatuKlatu Member Posts: 6
Both will be great, but 40k has my vote.

I have touched on this before in another post.  I tend to be a lot more Sci-Fi oriented, but, the quality of the game play, graphics and over all depth of the game supersede this.  Bows, Swords and Axes....BAH!....gimmie a Laser Rifle.  Using Magic and Spells......BAH!.....gimmie something realistic....like.....using The Force and midichlorians.

I don't know anything about warhammer or 40K. But if I understood right, 40k is that futuristic game and I never really liked those. I like more traditional fantasy games so that's why I have to say Warhammer

40k fan here. Chainswords are way cooler than your standard +x magic sword! But I'm still looking forward to playing WAR.

    To  Werppa:

It looks to me like you got the wrong impression about 40k. It's more science fantasy (work with me here) than science fiction... that is to say: it lacks the clean, "operating room" feel of regular sci-fi and instead goes for a more epic, cyber punk/gothic kinda atmosphere. Genetically altered super humans (Space Marines) fight in the name of their god Emperor, killing everything that isn't human; a dying race of "space elves" (Eldar) and their cults of deadly aspect warriors... and Orks! Yes, don't forget the Orks: cockney speaking greenskins that wish nothing more than to kill, launching massive crusades known as "WAAAAGH!". The only race that conforms to classic sci-fi would be the Tau (think Appleseed) who fight for the "greater good", killing anyone that doesn't join their cause.

All in all: everyone hates everyone else, there are no alliances and you shoot anything that is on the wrong end of your bolter gun.

warhammer!! dark omen being the game I have played the most out of all games that have ever existed O.o ... even mmorpg's ... well... anyway....

I like wh40k also though.... warhammer when I need my fantasy fix ... and I wouldnt call the other fix I need is science fiction, since science fiction bores me... mostly.... quantum physics and nano machines and so on can be fun to discuss sometimes though... >.>

but I love fantasy... and wh40k doesnt feel like a true "science fiction" as previous post stated, "science fantasy" wich sounds like a very good description btw... so thats why I think wh40k is awesome also.

but in terms of mmorpg... as much as I love fantasy and want a really good one as war online seems like its gonna be (all hype so far of course) but wh40k mmorpg? considering how much fantasy mmorpg's there is already.... im kinda actually looking forward to see how 40k will look O.o

hmm.... a huxley kind of wh40k would be awesome.... but more RPG please (yes I know huxley has some rpg stuff and I will definitely try it out) but its more fps then rpg... or lets atleast agree thats what it looks like...

sorry for misspelling and such but im in a hurry....

Well, I'm looking forward to both of them but as they haven't released any info about 40K yet I haven't decided what to play.

If there is one thing the MMORPG community is lacking at the moment it is a decent conversion for the sci-fi genre. Yes there is Eve, Planetside, Galaxies and the likes but the Warhammer 40k licence holds so much scope that it could be argued that its falls only second to Star Wars in this area. I hope then that Warhammer online is a success that can act as a template for the devlopment of a 40k version that will give back to the sci-fi genre of MMO gaming that was so cruelly robbed from us when the self destruct button was pressed at SWG Mission Control.

I honestly hope that THQ is very successful with the Warhammer 40k MMO. Given how the TT version of 40k plays though, it won't be your standard MMO in any way shape or form. The only 2 factions in 40k that can tolerate each other are the Imperial Guard and the Space Marines. I am very interested in seeing what Games Workshop and THQ come up with for this one. I'd hate to see it come out and not be a glowing success. I think that would cause a significant amount of harm to the possibility of future Sci-fi based MMOs.

I won't deny I'd rather be playing a 40k mmorpg, but anything Warhammer is better than nothing and even tho WAR won't have Tyranids in it I think I'll manage to survive (Chaos and Greenskins will keep me happily occupied until Skaven and Lizardmen are expansioned in )

im a hardcore 40k fan baby!!

the setting, the multitudes of concepts in 40k, is amazing.

also, fantasy can be said to be in 40, somewhere in the eye of terror.

after all, they're orcs and "goblins" in 40k as well...

I play 40k. Fantasy is a good game, I tried it out for a while but ended up selling my armies. I'd have to go with 40k.

Once upon a time, Warhammer and Warhammer 40k was linked together, by Warhammer being a planet in the Warhammer 40k univers. But no more, they've changed that background story, and now  both games are seperated from each other.

The concepts in 40k are just way to fun not choose it.

I enjoy the Warhammer fantasy universe more than 40K myself. It's probably because I'm a big fan of both Skaven, Dwarfs and Lizardmen, which cannot be found in 40K.

Sure, 40K have a lot of special races and such but when it boils down to the TT games I can't say I fancy just standing there shooting at my enemies. Although when the 40K MMO gets released I will most likely buy it, just because it's Warhammer.

    40k is better by far.

I like both of them, but my favorite is 40k. Mostly because of Dawn of War....ah nothing like watching a dreadnought do its thing on a big ugly ork:)
