LOTRO is...well...boring.

This is just my opinion but i find this to be a boring game. DOnt get me wrong the graphics are fantastic, i have a crappy computer but i get no lag and the graphics are just amazing. Its just that the gameplay is boring. Everything has been soloable thus far, signatures which are considered  elites/epics are soloable, no one really wants or has the need to group. Iam a champion and the skills are very bland, they are mostly multiple attack skills the animation is lowsy, combat is slow but i dont mind that being a ex EQ player.

The quest thus far have been very bland and repetitve, the intro quest are awesome. there is alot of instancing but this is good imo when you go to a place in instance/loading even a house you are still with other people exploring that same instance.

Though the more i play the more bored i get, i dont know how retail will change this but i dont see myself buying at launch. Though i will say this has been the best mmo released since WoW...though thats not saying much with the current crap we are given so far.

I have to agree with you, to put it in simplest terms i feel like im playing just another Wow *not saying it copied, just that in both games all you do is quest and lvl, rinse and repeat* then again most mmo's are like that i guess..

Idk if im gonna buy this either..still hoping that a good sandbox mmo comes out like the original swg T_T

till then ill keep playing medieval 2

My saving grace MMO will be Star Trek Online.

From what Im hearing, its very open ended sandbox game and you'll have the freedom to solo or group and picking either one will not be difficult at all.

    Pros:

    1. Its not fantasy (I dont know about you, but I could throw up if I play another fantasy MMO.)
    2. Fully explorable starships with artisitc renditions that are being created by the official artists from the series and movies.
    3. Constant communication between Perpetual and Paramount to get ideas
    4. Actor voice overs (Picard, Data... er well.... B-4, Admiral Janeway, etc)
    5. Canon-centric game (when SWG went away from canon, it turned to crap.  Dueling Jedi at starport anyone?)
    6. Its not fantasy
    7. Encourages team work.

    Cons:

    1. If you dont like sci-fi or Star Trek, you'll probably hate it
    2. No super uber multi-designed armor depending on your level (everything is uniformed)
    3. May be heavily roleplayed regardless of server.
    4. Getting a starship for you to solo will be damn near impossible (unless you like scouting the Alpha Quadrant in your Shuttlecraft)
    5. If you like to solo, piloting a Star Ship such as a Voyager type of starship will be impossible (you need 100 people to operate that ship, 300 to operate a galaxy class starship, and 6 to pilot a very small starship (like the roundabout)

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

IMO the genre of true MMORPG's is dead. It died when SWG died. Also instancing really killed it off also. All these mmo's that are out now are like a total different genre of games to me now. Vanguard was once my "saviour" but it failed. I don't play mmorpgs anymore cuz there are none.

It's kind of like the city Las Vegas, it once was something very different, now it's everythings just a big spin-off and different.(Go watch the movie Casino).

Ok I played LoTR in beta a bit ago and the first couple of lvls all the mobs are easy but elites and grouping become alot more common in your 20's and the elites get harder infact I know one instance that is just horrible to do even if you have the right lvls It was in the barrow downs if I remember right that took forever and the bosses weren't easy either. You get alot more and different skills once you get past lvl 15 atleast as a burgler I did.

I too did find the game very boring. Im not a fan of games where questing is main thing to do. And this being Lord of the Rings, and from reading the books and the movies, it seemed like going on quests wasn't something the average person did, but now, everyone is a Frodo, Gimli, Gandalf, Aragon etc etc

Its a "Lord of the Rings video game" with lots of other people.

Get use to it, thats the type of game that will be coming out...linear and scripted. Something was lost in translation with MMOs back about 3 or 4 years ago. Devs started to swing from virtual worlds to massive multi player video games. Most MMOs have more in common with games like Supermario in the sense that you have pre-set objectives and goals. If LotRs is as successful as everyone thinks it will be, it will pretty much kill any ideas of sandbox or free - form games. It will reinforce to the industry, MMO players want to be "guided" and not have to worry about making any pesky choices other then what class to play, just tell them what to do.

There are a few older games left that don't cater to this but no one supports them. Its a damn shame.

I have to agree.  I tried very hard to enjoy LOTRO but just couldn't manage it.  It looks very nice, it ran well, it had crafting and loads of quests and I just couldn't understand why I wasn't having much fun.  I still don't understand why a game that seemed to have so much going for it failed to grab my interest at all.  Finally, after a couple months of beta, I gave up.  I couldn't even get motivated enough to log in anymore.  If the game is good,  I generally last a bit longer than that!  Having said that, the Vanguard beta was definitely worse.  I didn't just feel meh about that one... I actively disliked the game.

    No needing groups?

Don't you know this is what many people want?  Players hate having to waste time looking for random groups and more importantly is the fact many, many players like myself would rather solo then hook up with anyone else.

I'm not praising this game as I don't know anything about it but as far as having to group, I know people hate having to go thru' that. Look at a game like Vanguard, they said it had as much soloable missions as group ones, this was a lie. You waste so much time being forced to group being the missions require it.

And plesae don't anyone say it's a MMO which is meant it needs groups because this is not the case.  I'd love a game where I could do missions by nyself without needing to waste time looking for a group which many times you either don't or you get a crappy one.

Word. I would much rather play Vanguard or any other game with innovations. I mainly want good pvp.

Many players also like to work with their friends. Grouping should always give faster exp unless the group is poorly made. For the unsocial people that dont play with friends in an online game (poor guys) they can still solo but not as fast. Most MMOs will have solo spawns with mobs spread apart to take them one on one and grouping areas with masses of strong mobs.

Alot of us gamers just don't like character skill based games. We need something much more engaging.

Oh, how I long for an MMO where I'm not a sheet of paper with numbers on it...

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.
