I agree Crowen and AhLaw379. GW and WoW are two different games. Even if I commit to another mmorpg, (whether that is WoW, Wish, SoR or one of the other ones coming out - still hadn't decided) I will buy GW and play it because it is a good, fun game which will have no monthly fees.
I wasn't that hip on GW at first, that was, until I played it. Good graphics, smooth game play. Lol, this game is fun. Hope the petition to bring back the demo works.

Buy both because guild wars goes with ur own pace and doesn't require fees so therefor u can play WoW and pay only 1 set of fees for 2 games and buy the time the expansion comes out then consider it buying ur new game after 6-9 months from the last ones u bought but even if u don't buy the expansion then u can still play the expansion areas as long as u get invited by some 1 who bought the expansion so until u have the money to buy it u can still progress but at a slower pace.

Rabid can you post a link to the petition I want to sign it and I have not seen it....
There are 2 types of 'roleplaying'. The games calling themselves 'RPG' simply mean that they have the experience based levelling and skill/class enhancements. This is more the mechanics of an RPG - the physical side, so to speak. In reality, most MMORPGs are fantasy based combat simulators with some click-click crafting thrown in. Both GW and WoW fit this categorization. GW, however, distills the combat simulation and removes downtime completely, so it's a better combat simulator.
The second aspect of roleplaying is the soul or mind of your character. This is where you live your alter ego - history, personality, knowledge, dreams, mannerisms, culture, likes, dislikes, etc. You react to the world, its environs, and its peoples based on how your character would react, not how you the player would react. An EQ1 example: an Ogre on a simple quest needs to solve a physical puzzle. After making a few turns of the gears, would the typical Ogre be able to solve the puzzle? Unless he got very lucky, no. This is where the player and the character split. The player goes online, finds the quest, learns the correct configuration, solves the puzzle and wins the quest. A typical Ogre would more than likely just smash the gears and move on. A GM in an RPG may reward the Ogre that smashes the gears and walks off. The MMORPG only rewards successful quest completion.
Without this soul, there is no intra-party conflict except maybe fights between players over where to hunt. The arguments and rivalries between Elf and Dwarf in many an enforced grouping are legendary, but not in today's MMOGs. Not a single game out there is an 'RPG' in this second sense.

You might wanna re-think that, bud. The petition is to bring back the alpha demo as a pay-to-play thing. There are two threads about it just on the main page of this forum.

Lol, Kartel beat me to the punch Crowen, and he's right the petition suggest pay to play demo. I wouldn't pay for an alpha demo, so if it the demo did resurface as a pay to play, I would personally wait for either open beta or the official release.

That's right Patrick. I was one of the first people to sign up for WoW beta. Then I found Guild Wars, played the demo and loved it. I'm...."converting" I guess you can say to Guild Wars.

Originally posted by Huxxx Ok please fill me in. Why exactly do you compare WoW to GW at all? And why not to Lineage 2 or something other? Arent WoW and GW fully different games?
I think the point was because GW and WoW are clearly going to be the best games of the year where L2 doesn't even come close.
I would like to say as an blizzard fan i would still have to go with Guild Wars. As some pplz say that free aren't a good investment in the game ur playing as GW and Blizzards . I would like to say whenever Blizzards makes new games the old skool games by Blizzard are hardy update and fix. When Wc3 (WarCraft3) came out it had 4-5 patches on the first 2 weeks. When Sc (Starcraft) was updated like few months after also thats not all when they have others Blizzards games. I'm trying to say is that whenever Blizzards make a new game the old ones forget about it. So i rather take the risk of getting GW snice there not making any other games. I noe they would try to fix the errors in the game in the future if they needed cause when it's a new game they want to make more pplz buy there game.

Well just so you know the people making GW are 3 of the original people from Blizzards Diablo so if your only reason to go with GW is that there not blizzard you might want to think twice since thats where they came from.
I am going with both because Blizzard in my opinion have always released good games and both titles look to be great.
Wonder how many people who say guildwars will be only pvp played the missions in it. They are some of best quests I've seen in a game. And yes being chased by 50+ or so monsters back to caslte gate is exciting. Launching catapults into groups of monsters was neat. Not to mention being in solo area and seeing 2 different groups of monsters fighting each other than rushing in and killing the winning group was different.
I think everyone should try guildwars since you don't have to pay after you get it, even if you like WoW might just change your mind.
totally agree with u on the missions fact . Those missions after i managed to complete them left me saying WOW !!! What An Experience and im not saying WoW as in World of Warcraft But frigin WOW MAN !!. Especially that 8ppl stone summit mission was absolutely amazing.
But in the end the beauty of it is that because u don't have to pay a monthly fee with guildwars and can play on ur own time then that makes at least me available to buy BOTH !!!!! games for only 1 monthly fee
I am sorry to disapoint you but there is going to be a monthly fee, at least that is what they are saying. But they havn't decided yes how much the cost is going to be.
Its not fair to compare these two games, they both have diffrent uses. WOW is a full mmorpg, a game in wich people "move into" and live sort of "new lives" in. GW is a game that will be played on the side, in addition to, and along with, games like wow.

Heh...so far Scary_pea your own poll shows you're wrong
from what I've been reading of WoW it is severely lacking in the content department. Some of the larger guilds from other mmo's that got into the game have already maxed out their char's after 2 months of playing the beta and have nothing left to do. To me that does not bode well for WoW, I think EQ 2 will be more successful than WoW will, much as I love Blizzard and loathe SOE. I just think that's the way it's going to go. Pure speculation mind you.
World of Warcraft beta had the level's up to level 39 thats way they maxed them up so fast. Anyways in mine personal opinion after playing all Blizzard games ever made World of Warcraft will be another title like diablo 2. Everybody loves it even before it came out , and after one year people already have inaf or are just there because they are known by couple people. There's no magic in blizzard games that came out after starcraft, warcraft2 and my favorite Diablo 1. With all my respect for the company i feel that something is going in wrong direction. All people that ever tried their games are with them but as well are missing some freshness. And here the Guild Wars rule with new ideas and combinations of best styles ever. I was all for WoW before i seen first GW screenshots. After that my mind got separated in to half . I was playng that unofficial beta of WoW that was made by "hackers" , got to know couple Gm's had some fun there - it was cool but .. what can i say. After E3 my hart goes all for Guild Wars. Arena Net does perfect job connecting their work with players. Their respect for players as a potential buyers of their products is excellent. They even gave us an extra day of playing before the E3 came out. Personally i thing that those are the people that made Blizzard shine in the past.
When i think of WoW i c a big world full with people running around trying to kill as much as they can to get to level 255 or whatever it will be. They will have some people playing it. All of them will have money because of the monthly fee and are going to be buying items on ebays or other auction to be the best fast - I'm not saying its wrong - its just boring... As well as this i c beautiful history of the world, fanatics that played war1,2,3 before, and some nice graphics. Unfortunately for me its not inof any more.
Guild Wars is a game that will shake mmorpg arena. Dueling in this game is as good and addicting as in Diablo 1. Cooperative missions need full attention from all players - respond of each one of them might cost dead or victory to the group. Single player is that thing that all "future games" don't have working good and here is very nicely done. But the best thing in all of it is that Arena Net puts a lot of pressure on building your character and your abilities. If you don't know how to play and your character will be level 99 or whatever you might loose anyways. Its all about how you use your brain mouse and keyboard not about press and kill...
From my words you can c by yourself how much I'm for GW. This game will rule with or without WoW players. You will all come too play GW sooner or later and i will wait for You with my skills and sword. We will c how fast can you run when you will c that you cannot summon a griphon !!
Warcraft3, TFT, Diablo2 and Starcraft Ghost (ROFL) show exactly where this company is headed.
I have spent the last 7 years playing blizzard games almost solely.
War2, Starcraft, Broodwar ( a little diablo) and Warcraft 3 and TFT.
I was a little let down with War3 and especially with TFT. Diablo2 was a letdown.
Blizzard's announcement for Starcraft Ghost was just disgusting.
And with World of Warcraft I think they're just taking advantage of the "still loyal" blizzard fans.
I think all the good programmers are blizzard have either left for other companies or are in management.
Me and my gaming friend beleive World of Warcraft will be sub-par compared to EQ2, AC2, UXO because all of those programmers have EXPERIENCE with MMORPGS and blizzard do not.
Will be interesting to see what happens.
I am also very proud of Arenanet. They are definately doing things that us hard-core gamers want to see. The E3 alpha demo demonstrates just what kind of a company they are.
Anet is going in the right direction. Blizzard is going backwards.
