3 interesting MMORPGs-which should I choose

ShorunShorun Member UncommonPosts: 247
I am playing WoW at the moment (ok, at the moment I'm writing a topic, but you know what I mean).....I'm lvl30 now Nightelf Druid but the game is so boring now, and I can't find quests anywhere! I thin DDO and VSOH are both good games too-but which is better? Or should I play WoW and go on untill there are good quests again?

A)DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ONLINE
-DDO is action, that's cool, but what's the battle system excactly like? I could find a video for good information....
-Is it true that you can't fight alone and need a group for every little quest?
-Are you, in the biggest part of the game, in dungeons under the city of Stormreach?
-What's about PvP

B)VANGUARD: SAGA OF HEROES
-Vanguard is somehow like WoW, am I right?
-Are there many players online?
-Has Vanguard got a huge gaming world?
-Is there something I should know about Vaguard? Any bad things?
-What's about PvP?

C)WORLD OF WARCRAFT
-Can I find more and better quests at lvl40+ ?
-Should I just go on and later it is fun?

My questions are asked, so I'm waiting for your answers!
Thank you!

Of those choices I take a bullet to the brain =P

Seriously.. Consider LOTRO... or even EVE or CoH/CoV for that matter :)

If you liked WoW stay far far away from DDO and VSOH...

    Why?
That I like WoW doesn't mean I don't like other games...My favourite Games are Sonic games, Unreal Tournament and Titan Quest. Worms is cool too. And I like Guild Wars.

But why should I stay far away from VSOH or DDO?

    Well...

Since you like WoW but find it boring now...you could give City of Heroes/Villains a try.

You will have plenty quests and storyline...will you love it or find it boring?  That I can't say.

But CoH/V is the best MMO on the market, and by far.  It is not a close call.  It is a TKO on the first round, it is a hockey game which end with a score like 7-1, a football game that end 62-6...

DDO, do you have good reflexes & love D&D rules?  If you say yes to both, try it.  Vanguard?  Well, you didn't like WoW past level 30, Vanguard is like WoW but from levels 50 to 90!  Stay far would be my advice!

I found DDO to be an alright game.  It's a good game and all, but since I like to explore more than dungeons, I drove away from it.

Vanguard really isn't a game to pick up.  To me, the game went back instead of forward.  It just isn't a fun game.  The whole thing has a lack of art and animations are clumpy.  Vanguard really isn't, I don't know......just stay away from it.

Right now I find WoW and EQ2 the only good games on the market, along with Ultima Online.  But I don't know how you feel towards old games.  Wait for Age of Conan or WAR, hopefully those two will bring life to this genre of games.  Also, try CoV/CoH trial.  I tried them a little bit ago and had a blast.   The game is not based off of equipment at all... because there are none.  It's all about super powers.  Try it.

I used to dislike WoW alot, until I got my GF to play with me.  It's a blast now.  Getting on a couple hours a night and playing with her made all the difference in the world.  So I suggest maybe you find a good friend/girl that you know in life and play with them.  It will change the game for you.  I don't see myself quiting WoW soon with her playing.

    Good luck.

Guild Wars if you have not tried that yet. Does not require a subscription fee. Its more of an online RPG but it has the best PvP system in place for a current gen MMO (well it does not require a huge time sink like most other games to compete). until we get a PvP game thats focused on good open pvp its a good bet.

WoW has thousands of quests though you must not be using thottbot it should not be possible to run out of quests

DDO is heavily instanced from what I read so doesnt seem like a real MMO. However was even thinking bout trying it myself to see how the combat is one day

just try all the free trials you can

Stick with WoW, from level 30 on there's a lot of stuff to come and more than enough quests for your level.

    Thousand needles

    Stranglethorn

    Arathi Highlands

    Desolace

    Swamp of Sorrows

    Duskwood

To list only a few areas with quests. Upon reaching level 40-50 there are even more areas where you can level up or go instancing. If you wanna quit though, DONT touch Vanguard or DDO; Best bet is LotRO, Guildwars:Nightfall or Everquest 2...

    "and I can't find quests anywhere! "

To the OP, if you can't find quests while playing WoW, you need to drop out of MMORPG's altogether as no game has as many quests as WoW, period.  Any degree of research will reveal this fact to you instantly.

At lot of your old posts indicate that you hate grinding - honestly, almost all MMORPG's have that element.

WoW has what, like 7k quests total?

    < shrug >

My suggestion is to get CoH/V and play untill AoC or WAR come out. In CoH/V you will NEVER and i repeat NEVER run out of missions (quests) to do man. The gameplay is fun and the character customization is the best in the market atm. Give it a try you may like it.

He would find many quests without any troubles in CoH/CoV, only half of them require some harder work to find.

Off the top of my head, some zones for a level 30 Alliance:- Desolace, Ashenvale, Duskwood, Wetlands, Stranglethorn Vale, Stonetalon Mountains.

First off, I would like to say as someone who played a druid in WoW, they are slow to level characters and require a bit of patience in... well a lot of departments. (Ever notice there aren't that many?)

As for the games you've listed off...

Dungeons and Dragons for me was simply okay. Unless they've changed something the whole game was basically instances. The battle system, despite being based on rolls, plays more like a shooter with your clicking to swing your weapon. The range of movement is much larger. (pulling yourself up, just a better look to how the characters moved.) Also, I heard that a lot of people ran out of things to do. There really isn't a lot of content. (Although I think they have an expansion coming out? or is out. PvP was added last winter, I think, and from what I hear is pretty fun. You can solo much of that game if you want to but there are some that cannot be experienced without a group. There is a trial on their site if you would like to try it out free for 10 days.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes plays VERY much like Everquest. (If you've every played that.) I had mixed feelings about this game. It's got some cool content in the crafting department and I loved the diplomacy "mini-game." There are a plenty of races and classes to choose from and every class seems to fair well soloing. The problem is the game really lacked life in my opinion. I didn't make a connection with my character. The graphics are gorgeous if your computer can handle them. I can't say anything about PvP in Vanguard since I never got into it. All-in-all it was an okay game but not something I felt I could dedicate myself too.

A word on Lord of the Rings Online. The game IS WoW. It plays just like it. After all the formula for WoW worked so Turbine followed their lead. You might have more fun with LOTRO but if you're not enjoying WoW then I highly doubt it. There is also an open-beta? or maybe it's a promotion (I don't recall) but you should be able to test-drive this game as well.

Frankly, there aren't too many games that I would get. I do hear the COH/COV are both fun games. If you are looking for something different, you might have to wait awhile though. Anyways, I apologize if this post seems to wordy but this is my 2 cents.

Try any MMO trial you can grab. Opinion through forums helps you 30% but your personal experience is the 70% for you to shoot your investment into.

So.. as a start, i can hook you up with CoH/CoV NA edition trial.

All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.

30 nelf druid, Tons of quest in  raven hill / STV/ hell you can even grind out those levels as a healer in SM. SM was a blast.
  • sitheussitheus Member Posts: 230

I played to lvl 60 pre TBC and yes all quests are pretty much the same. Every zone basically has these quests as does most grinding type MMORPG:

    1) Kill x amount of mob y

2)Extract x amount of body parts from mob y

    3) Extract x body part from named mob y

    4) Deliver x to y

    5) Speak to x

    6) Gather item x from location y

That's basically it from lvl 1 to cap. Its mind numbing but the formula works as proven by the subscription numbers. Just too easy as I when I did those quests I usually was doing something else at the same like surfing the net or watching a movie or something. I'm hoping AOC will try something inovative. For me, I'm waiting for POTBS in June to see if their sandbox ideas are going to work such as fully conquerable world, production based crafting, your actions effect the game world, etc.

COH/V is nice at first, but gets old very quickly.  There very little variety in the mission tiles, and after a while, you'll be able to go through the same warehouse/cave missions with your eyes closed.  Buildings are the same, they just change the bad guys.

Also, the game updates are coming slower than ever.  It's starting to look like 2 updates per year, and although the updates are usually okay, there just isn't enough between updates to keep many gamers occupied.

I'm not trying to knock the game, because it is good, but honestly, it's not the best MMO on the market.  Maybe when they add loot, it'll be more interesting, but right now, it's just grind, grind, grind.  It does have the best character customization around though.

I would highly recommend Coh/Cov.   Look for the server Freedom!

Try Pirates of the Burning Sea... it has 1000quests and that is on counting the good quests not like deliver some item to somebody else or kill 20 boars and come back to me. Plus it's Pvp sounds awesome and who doesn't want to be a pirate or try to stop the scurvy pirates. But  it is not out yet...

He's helping you, don't take it like a threat...

Pretty much, Warcraft is the epitome of instant gratification MMO and something that will last you a long time if you want it to. It has nice, free patches and good in-game events, pretty superb.

V:SoH is SoE (Sony). They pretty much make you pay for patches and the games are not instant gratification one bit. They get you sitting there for hours, wondering why you are still there because the content is so crappy. The only reason that Vanguard may look alright at the moment is because it is rather new and Sony hasn't worked its black magic on it.

Overall, if you like relatively cheap fun, stick to WoW. Make a new character, join a guild you would have never thought about joining beforehand due to the size of your E-Peen. I have always found that trying something new in Warcraft is always rewarding.

Trust me, I went through at least 20 MMO's trying to find a replacement for Warcraft, and I never, EVER found something as good.

EDIT: About your druid leveling problem, try northern Stanglethorn Vale (STV). The quests are rather straight-forward and give good XP. And since Druids are always gear-pampered, you will find that you kick ass in World PvP fast, and the game will pick up again from there (unless there are a bunch of ganking whores on your server, but since you are alliance there's probably a better chance of YOU being the ganking whore. /rant off )

Also, as someone above said, SM (Scarlet Monastery) also makes the game a blast due to all the drops you can get.

And since SM is rather hard, druid healers are good because they can withstand more damage than priest and help out in pretty much any other role if necessary.

I think people may be right when they suggest COH/COV to you.  Quest are easy to get plentiful and contacts are everywhere.  I played it for a year and a half and recently took a break waiting on Issue 9 to come out but would still recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it.

DDO, what to say,  I played from beta into launch and its instance after instance.  To me it was liking playing Guid Wars but paying a fee and with imbalanced pvp due to the way D and D rules are(though they altered the rule heavily).  The big issue I found with it was the fact you can lvl to max way to fast and certain dungeons get repeated over and over for best xp so prepare to repeat dungeons frequently.  I've heard its changed for the better in the last 6 months so might be worth a try I don't know.

Vanguard is what I'm playing atm and for me its a good time.  The pluses for me are pretty free form game, 3 spheres are pretty entertaining though parts of the game are still being implemented such as raiding, so keep that in mind.  Graphics are good if you have the system and really its dependent on your particular system, by this I mean two different people with similar systems may see very different results so keep that in mind and check out the tweaks for the ini if you decide to play, for me runs well though.  The grind is much longer in Vanguard than WoW so be prepared, if you thought WoW was a grind Vanguard is a much slower process.  This can be good or bad, I'm in the largest guild in Vanguard on my server so grouping isn't a problem now, so we choose a area we want to explore for that day and just have fun exploring the world, I level when it happens basically and don't focus on powerlvling, and more on enjoying the ride.  Be warned though I changed guilds for Vanguard due to issues with the LFG system that are being worked out right now.  I went from a guild that had 50 people including alts to one that has 350 people including alts and that makes the game so much better as its a very guild focused game.  I've never switched guilds before and still play with my other guild for other games but for Vanguard a good guild of regulars is a must.  Anyway if you decide to play on the RP server check out Storm Haven for a guild and send a tell to Trey I'll get you into a big group of regular players.

    My thoughts

    Peace

Stick with WoW. It has a ton of quests, you can easily level from 1 to 70 just through questing alone. DDO isn't much of an MMO at all. It's like a paid version of Guild Wars. All of the quests are instanced. When you walk through Stormreach, the main city, it feels like walking through an amusement park. Because all of the NPC's just stand there in front of doors and sewer openings. When you talk to them and accept a quest, you can click on the door or sewer plate and enter the instanced mission. I felt like I was handing my admission ticket to an amusement park worker so that I could go inside the walk-through haunted house. It's just very artificial feeling.

V:SoH has some good points to it. But it's still riddled with bugs and very unforgiving as far as system specs go. If you don't have a high end computer, it's likely that you're gonna struggle even on balanced settings. Give it about 6 months before trying it out. I played for the first free month and then cancelled before billing time.

I see that some people mentioned CoH/CoV. I'd have to disagree with that one. Although the character creation/customization is the best thing that you will see in any game ever made, and although there is a lot of fun to be had in the beginning, you will quickly realize that the missions are ridiculously repetative. Almost every mission involves walking into a warehouse/office building and defeating a gang of thugs and the leader, or retrieving some artifact type of item. Like DDO, all indoor missions are instanced. The outdoor missions typically consist of "Kill x number of "So-and-so" gang members". Running through the streets will have you encountering the same scenario on every single corner and alley: 3 to 4 thugs are either   A: breaking into a car. B: Mugging someone. C:Standing around talking to each other.
