Merge server

arctarusarctarus Member UncommonPosts: 2,581
Just wondering, if they can allow server transfer why cant they merge all the low pop servers together? If you are concern that there might be other players with the same name if merge, doesnt server transfer encounter the same problem? thx

With a propaganda saying they have over 8 millions active subscribers, if they merge servers they tell us they lied.

Won't be happening, which is silly, as low population servers is detrimental to any game, even the all-mighty WoW.

Lies! Everyone "knows" that WOW is the most popular game in the history of the universe and every server is maxed out 7/24, with long queues to get in every night.

I suppose they would prefer to encourage players to join the underpopulated servers rather than merge or take them down.  Or...maybe they figure if they wait long enough the players on the under-pop servers will pay the transfer fee to go somewhere more crowded... making money for Blizzard and making it less painful to shut down the server.

people dont understand 8 mil players WORLD WIDE, 2.5 mil in US alone. WoW has MANY MANY servers for US so when they merge some of the servers i dont see them with a declining player base just that they released too many servers.

i think they will not merge the servers..low server population and a high populated server that will be a hell like lag..thats the reason they have to make a bunch of servers

If they would merge servers these servers would become overpopulated. I see alot of people made some sarcastic comments on this, but it's not really possible. If you got two low populated servers and merge them I do believe the only thing u would manage to create would be a big server with queue that lags, not really what u wanted? By having alot different servers (and creating new to stop them from getting queue 24/7) they can keep the server relative free from lag.

The conclusion: No good idea, terrible actually.

Thats a good point; but what about a server split, persay? Maybe Alliance go to a server lacking alliance and horde go a server lacking horde? I'm just spitballin' here (one problem i could already see with this is on a PvE server with character on both factions). Server spliting/merging aside, you still can't really deny the fact that there are some really really low pop servers out there (eg, Zuluhed, they've been complaining for about a year now, Undermine has a similar problem) and need a solution to bring more players because face it, no one wants to pay 25$ to transfer to a dead server unless they have a good reason (maybe friends play there).

Have played on one of those ghost server before and its really hard to find a single soul, sometimes for a few lvls. I believe if they merge, it wont be crowded....

Is there a link that verifies this possible server merger rumor?

If not, then take it for what it appears to be a rumor...

Yes, exactly what I thought cupertino.  I guess that ends this thread.

Actually, playing on any established server it can be hard to put together a team at mid levels. For example I can remember one evening trying to put together an RFD group on a medium pop server. I did a /who for appropriate level priests and found 5 online, 2 of whom were busy pvping, 1 was in SM, 1 said he was logging soon, and although I did managed to persuade the 5th to join us, he quit quarter of an hour later (before he had even reached the instance - this was pre-summoning stone) to join another SM group. Think I eventually managed to find a druid to heal for us.

I believe this debate came up a few weeks ago. It was pointed out based warcraft realms stats out that a small number of US servers (2-3) had very low populations, although the other US servers, and all european servers were fine. Blizzard is probably hoping that their policy of directing new players to less populated realms will fix the issue, although I'd imagine if US populations do fall substantially (further?) then they will be forced to implement server merges.

What constitutes a low server population?  Percentage and number?

Numbers i believe. what im trying to find out is, is there really any complications to merge servers, its not been said from blizz that they will do it. but given the current problem with so many low pop lying around, hope they do soemthing abt it soon...

Hmm I can't imagine it's an easy job; maintaining consistent populations on hundreds of servers - and predicting the growth of a game that measures growth in millions.   At least if you're starting a new character, you have the option of many different kinds of populated server.

While there are some lightly populated servers, there are many fully populated servers.  The newer ones tend to be the emptiest.

I don't envy Blizzard being the shepherd of 8.5million subscribers.  Unless you think that there's a conspiracy and they're tricking you... /pat

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
