once UO gets the much needed graphics upgrade wouldnt that be a nice place for ex SWG players that want their sandbox feel to play again? If i remember SWG didnt have open PVP areas that UO once had.
EA always said it's impossible. How? I dont' know. The free shards seem to do it ok. So I'm guessing maybe someone still has rights to old UO? hell, who knows.
I would so be in UO if it was pre- AOS.....ahhh, the fun times I had.

Well, I never played the original UO..so I have nothing to be disappointed in. I might give the game a trial just to say I did it... but doubt it has long term appeal for me...

The old UO builds are probably in archive in a separate building that is too far to walk to.

Good question, I see sandbox and I think my 7 year olds out side playing in, well... a sandbox...
what is a sandboxer?
I loved UO, my first ever MMO and it was fun, OLD school UO that is, man the good times on Lake Superior

Impossible to do in legal terms, such as licensing issues, is not something the free shards worry about.
Is any one else very interested in trying out UO reborn?
Ultima Online's appeal died when Trammel was released. PvP as a whole is dead as it stands on their shards. The "sandbox" gets smaller and smaller with the addition of newer items, classes, and races. I'm pretty sure updating the graphics to look like a crappy Diablo 2 isn't going to be anyone's "last hope"
I've got my UO account dusted off since December in anticipation. Been actively working on a couple of builds to make sure I can enjoy the fun spots in the game when the new graphics hit.
Last hope for sandboxers? No. The graphics aren't changing any gameplay whatsoever...so if you don't like the game now, you're not going to like the game with new graphics.
For god's sake - I wish they would just make the damn game 3d already.... Were not in the stoneage anymore... Leave the subsytems the same just upgrade the friggin game to 3d.

It's that easy, eh?
Good point.
Original UO always impressed me with the sheer variety of things you could do with objects, recreating that in a new engine would be no mean feat.

When they spend the money to earn my money, then I'll play.

but what does that have to do with the last hope for sandboxers?
If they add a classic server. Yeah, i would play. If not the game will still be a ruined shell of what it was. If you polish a turd its still a turd.

UO lost it's sandbox when they released the Age of Shadows expansion. They made uber itemization a necessity. I do not think it is resurrectable now.
If they offered a lifetime membership and had a pre-trammel server I might think about it.

If they did the Reborn face lift, and then slapped on a Shadowrun mod, with pre-Trammel era pvp? Sold.
