Got back into GW recently got all the games playing it for a while and finnally a mmo captivating me for a while. Not cause it doesnt have a monthly fee but its acctually very fun. Love my assassin
i think of GW as a mmo, its massive muliplayer online rpg. Its massive in huge GW is a huge game, Its multiplayer its online and its a role playing game.
I played GW a good bit before converting to WoW. Got sick of WoW and waiting for AoC and WAR to hit, so I started playing some GW and LOTRO beta. GW is actually a good game, even though the general MMO community seems to think it's for kiddies. Yes, the game mechanics are simpler, and after WoW it thoroughly irritates me that I can't go wherever I want (like jumping off a cliff.) I see the argument that it's not an MMO, since all the meaningful action happens in instanced areas (which also irritates me after WoW.) And no crafting... But, just putting my 2 cents in to say that GW graphics/art are among the best and don't require uber systems, and the combat is pretty engaging and fast. I defintely don't think it's "the best MMO," but it deserves some respect.

The reason gamers here don't classify it as an MMORPG is because it doesn't follow many of the rules that govern most MMORPGs.
1. No monthly fee
2. 99% of content is instanced
3. You don't have to play a character from 1 - max. You can start at max
GuildWars is more of an online game. It isn't RPG because of the elements of roleplaying and persistant world that it lacks.

There's a mod that makes TES : Oblivion multiplayer. Does that make it an MMO? No. So be quiet, and go back to playing "lolz guild warz!1!!"
I dare say I'm playing with more people at one time than I am in a normal MMO that's as mainstream as guild wars, instead of being multiplayer part of the time.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

You forgot the biggest reason - Its devs say it isant a M-M-O they say its a C-O-R-P.
yeah these are dark times indeed GW is much more fun then a lot of these games publishers trying to charge $15 for. Yeah im thinking bout cranking up Factions soon

Thats the worst post I've read in this thread. At the very least Guilds Wars is an RPG. I'd agree its more of an Online RPG but saying its not an RPG at all is a straight up lie
Well it has been number 1 here at mmorpg.com since it came out pretty much. Im not saying these rating are the authority on mmorpg quality but they do have to give us a general inclination of where most games are at these days.
GW is not an MMO. You can argue that it is techincally massively multiplayer, and online, and has RPG elements and all that, but you know exactly what we mean when we say its not an MMO. It's not an MMO in the sense that AC is an MMO, or WoW, or DAoC. It's too different from the genre. If I had more time, I'd continue to develop this little argument.

Ya but starting a max only let you do PvP, so there is some benefit to leveling up a character.
Considering the "best" is obviously extremely subjective, dare yourself to say whatever you want.

I rest my case......again.
Hehe...
There are actually 2 issues.
1. Guild Wars isn't yet-another-EQ-clone "MMO". That's stated on the main site's FAQ.
2. Guild Wars still relates the most to other MMOs (hence it is often, somehow eronously, referred as one). Meaning it belongs to the site.
Case closed for good, please?

Darkfall Travelogues!

Exactly.
I can't believe how ignorant people get when their biases get in the way.
Its a MMORPG, anyone who played it for more than 20 minutes realizes this. I don't even like the game, doesnt mean I have to be rediculous towards it.
