I gave it a second shot but...

Ok, I had downloaded this free trial as I had already wrote in another post in these forums.  I also stated the tutorial is ridiculosly long which prompted me to quit in mid start.

However, I decided to go back and try it again since I still had it on my computer and I still have 13 days left. I had began with a Calderi I believe it's called but after reading here the other race had faster, better ships I decided to make another alt.

I saw you have a choice for 3 different characters so I made another from another race. The Mimaters I think they're called. I begin and it starts the tutorial again but I'm willing to go thru it again since this time I understand it a bit more then the first time. So, so far everything is ok.

Like in the first alt It tells me to train a skill. So I open the box and tried to do just this. But it wouldn't let me do it. It said my first alt was in the process of training a skill and two characters can't do it, just one. Said what?

Question:  Why give a choice of 3 characters when the skills only count towards one? is this not stupid?

Anyway, I decide to take out the first character altogether and I'd figured problem solved. But no, it wasn't to be. When I deleted or tried to delete the first character I made it told me it would take 10 hrs for it to happen. 10 hrs?  Are they for real? Why 10 hrs? I should be able to delete him right then and there like all other games.

I said ok, no big deal since I don't care about the first alt so I proceed to return to the second one. I tried to train again and again it told me about the first alt having the skill taken up.  So that means I would have to wait ten long hrs to be able to do this. They have got to be kidding.

The thing is the voice instructing you would not advanced until I trained a skill but I couldn't since it was involved with the first alt. So that means I couldn't do anything for 10 hrs.

What is it with this game and taking up so long a time to do anything in it?

Anyway, I said enough and I deleted it completely from my computer. What a waste of time but it won't ever happen again, not with this game anyway.

Okay, I'm another noob with a question. At the begining of the game, when you select your character, you can either tailor the charatcer for combat, science, or mining/merchant. Early in the game you can either fight the computer controlled bandits, run missions, or mine. Mining is kind of like watching paint dry, and just doesn't float my boat.

So, I get curious about whether there are higher level science missions, and stations in zero-zero space, I decide to go out there and take a quick look around. Needless to say, I get "ganked" by someone that has been playing for quite a bit longer than me, has their stats well up, and has a killer ship outfitted. Anyway, besides the idea of a player sitting there feeding his inferiority complex by ganking new players (these types are in every game), I have no idea whether zero zero space is just like the beginner areas.

So, question for you veterans on this forum. If I chose a science, merchant, or manufacturing career, is there something else to do in zero zero space other than fight? Any real reason to chose a science career?

well the most powerful person in the game has no combat skills actully :P

while mining is still a huge part of EvE. Don't expect it to be like watching paint dry in )0.0 sec space.  You'll need top keep on your toes and make sure to run iof someone finds you. Also mining in 0,0 space will mostly be in a huge group of players. with half of them flying around to protect the miners.

what you need my friend is to join EvE univerity. Or maybe the Privateers. While I hate the guys for ganking me. They will get into the action.

Also please don't blame someone ganking you in 0.0 space. 0.0 space isn't pirate space, and the guy that killed you was most likey on patrol. and he was thinking yuo were a new alt that someone made to act all inoccent and like, "don't shot me, like me come in and look at where your stations are and where your fleet which is pose to attack in an hour is and what size it is.

can you see why you shouldn't be in 0.0 with being in a corp?

In a corp people will always trust or dis trust you more. it depends what name you carry.

Now if you were in EvE univerity I bet he would of warned you about being in the system in local. and if you didn't leave then well. you'd be done for.

As far as science goes. you should look up a tutorial on exploration. that's where a lot of money is to be made. but you'll need combat to defend yourself.

basicly, join a corp :P the game gets MUCH more fun.

and for your question. combat is the best road. you can train anything else whenever you want.

As trentonx says, Eve University will train you. We also have a good relationship with many other alliances. You can stay with us for as long as you like. Here is our prospectus:

    >

    >

    Eve University Welcomes You!

Eve University has been in existence for over two years, with the goal of serving the needs of players new to the Eve Universe. Over 1000 toons are now enrolled making it one of the largest corps in Eve.

Eve University is a rarity in Eve: A purely altruistic corporation. Everyday, faculty and older students give freely to new players their most valuable resource: their time and guidance. This has made Eve University one of the friendliest corps in the game.

We are a relaxed corporation, with an open door to new players (less than 8 wks) who wish to learn. Faculty and mentoring positions are also available. Students and Faculty are welcome to stay just for a "term", or stay forever to help out future students.

Here our some of the corporate activities that we run:

    - Group NPC Pirate hunts and Mining expeditions

    - PVP combat lessons (Tackling, EWAR, scanning..)

    - Special building subcontracts from NAGA

    - Guided mission and complex runs

    - Our library of videos and lessons to parts of the game

    - Learning scholarships

    - Access to 0.0 space expeditions and "advanced play"

through our sister corporation "The Graduates"

    - and much more..

We have about 5-10 scheduled instructed classes and events a week, in addition to the many unscheduled events lead by our helpful older graduate students.

    New Players:

Come join a corporation whose sole interest is introducing you to Eve and making you a better player.

Many fine careers have started with Eve University as their first corp. Read our recruitment thread to hear the testimonials of players from all around Eve:

    http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=332962

    Experienced Players:

Do you wish to give something back to the Eve community? Would like to give your game more meaning than the next ISK, or the next dead NPC rat? Become a faculty member at Eve University. You will find teaching and mentoring new players a rewarding experience, while still being able to enjoy all aspects of the game.

    Criteria to join Eve University

    Students (<8wk):

The only thing we ask is that you have finished Eve's introductory tutorial and follow-on missions.

    Staff & Faculty (>8wk):

Our criterion for more experienced players is a willingness and desire to help and instruct new players, and to support Eve University's mission.

Remember to please respect Eve University’s mission. E-Uni is not a warehouse for alts. Applications are accepted at one of our 30 offices. See the 14th entry in this thread for the locations.

    Wish to learn more?

Join the “Eve University” channel and talk to some of our friendly members and students. Or see our commercial:
