EQII or LOTRO?

Deathstrike2Deathstrike2 Member UncommonPosts: 1,777

I'm getting ready to go get something new to tide me over for a while, and I'm stuck between LOTRO and EQII (with all the expansions).  I solo about 80 percent of the time, and like a lot of variety in terms of armor and equipment / loot.  I'm a graphics whore as well    In all honesty, I'm only looking for something to hold my attention for six months or less (really waiting on Conan and WAR).  I've played the LOTRO beta and enjoyed what I saw of it.  I've tried EQII before, but only briefly and it's been a while.  Any advice you can give me is appreciated!

Both games are very similar, I'd go with Everquest 2. the game has a LOT more content then Lotro. in fact, Lotro is quite..small.

EQ2 has better value to. if you buy the newest expansion, you get the full game + all expansions.

I played EQ2 for about 2 months waiting for LOTRO to come out and try it. And Id definately say LOTRO. Even though it is a solid game, EQ2 gets really boring after awhile(quests are all the same). EQ2 graphics are good but they arn't smooth like LOTRO too. Also LOTRO just came out and it is gonna build and get better.

    LOL...

While both titles have their strong point's seeing how you're looking for a 6 month tie over I'd say LOTRO.

It's a slick well made title and since it's new you can experience it's end game in 6 months.

Since EQII is a bit older it's going to take longer than 6 months to experience it all.

Yeah EQ2 is better IMO.  But LoTRO is not that bad either.  Try the free preview of LOTRO then the trial for EQ2 and judge.

Best advice right here. Personall I like EQ2 better as well, but try them both out free. LOTRO has the free open beta for a couple of weeks, and EQ2 has the 14 day trial. Judge for yourself and compare.

I haven't tried LOTRO yet, but i agree with what you say about EQ2. Great graphics, fun in the beginning, but way too quick everything feels like the same.

About LOTRO trial: If you are talking about that "free world tour", it's only available for US, Canada, Australia & New Zealand. They have a link for EU players, but the EU site only have the same "apply for beta" stuff as they have had for an eternity now, and my apply was never answered... And for ppl outside these regions... well, I can't find anything.

Eq2 would be a great game if it was actually populated but its not.. Well it does have people playing it but 90% of the populace are end game raiders.. The game prior to level 70 pretty much sucks... and it pretty much sucks at 70 too if your not into raiding.. Raiding wrecked that game i think..

I don't really understand why it presents any problem to try world tour living in Europe. I live in UK and I just, well, fooled them and pretended I was in USA. Why do they care anyway? Tolkien was British, it's not fair to leave us out of the beta like this.

LotR-O is a brand new game with upcoming expansions, new forming player base, new guilds, new explioration, everybody that buys it is enthusiastic about everything... Its the "dude, its brand new" feeling...

EQ2 has been there for more than two years, it's attracting a certain player type and is full of vets. Plus, in my opinion, it's never been a blast and the gfx-engine really looks dated designwise. I've played this game for about 8 months and it was great fun several times, but in your posisiton choosing an age-old game over a brand new title of similar or better quality would be a mistake imo.

    Go with LotRO

I would say go with LoTRO, even though I really like EQ2. You're not looking for anything really long term, but you already know you enjoyed LoTRO in beta, and it is a brand new game, so it will be populated with people as you play along and you get the fun of discovering everything with everyone else.

EQ2 is fun, too, IMO, but with so many vet players, it seems like most of the action is at endgame. *shrug*

I believe EQ2 has a free trial so you may wanna try it out just to see if your missing anything good.

I feel the same way as Meridion does....... especially since you really want just a hold-over game until AOC or WAR comes out (my exact situation actually).....  I'd think EQ 2 would be more for a person looking for a long term ride....

Plus youre in a new game if AoC or WAR don't provide, which is very possible by the current state of knowledge. Nobody really knows how both titles will play, though I pray to the twelve gods that AoC will be as good as it looks...

Why not try LOTRO while it's free. If you don't like it, try EQ2.
