I played the game for 2 hours, and right now I'm ready to uninstall it. This game is just not for people that don't want to be told how to play (that's EXACTLY what quests do).
I take every quest I can find, then go out exploring and hunting. I've spent more time exploring than deliberately deciphering the quests, but I do tend to complete quests along the way.
I feel I have a lot more freedom to just enjoy the world than in just about any other MMO I've every played, so I really don't understand your point at all.
