Have to agree with you here, I'm sick of WoW Trolls being EVERYWHERE they say get out of the World of Warcraft forum, yet I see the exact same people trolling around in other game forums about how WoW is 'great' sod off and leave us alone, sometimes people might not be interested in constantly grinding and raiding? Ever thought about that?

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

The same reason we played WoW  which was/is a obvious clone of the games that came before it, we enjoy this one more.

Wow is basically a clone of every game that came before it. All they did was take the features from all the games that came before it and improved upon them. They did not reinvent anything for the game. All the features you find in WOW you can find in other games that predate wow.

Most directly, EQ.  But really there is a whole line of fantasy MMOs that are fundamentally very similar, each tends to have its own gimmick(s) but the core game play stays the same.

Personally I think it is a childish thing.  I feel each MMO is unique, UO, EQ, FFXI, WOW, etc.  I can't see how any of these are clones of each other, and that goes for LotRO as well.  You'll always get people like these, because they enjoy to cause drama and see the reactions.  It's doubtful they actually mean what they say.

I think, many of the so called "WoW trolls" are a bit sick of WoW... and several other MMOs.
    Me included.

That is why I view these boards for some pros & contras of this or that game.

    (sorry for bad english)

Who says the one argueing Lotro is a lot like WoW are actually WoW players? I argue that Final fantasy XI looks a lot like Everquest, but I play neither of those games.

Yeah they need to to make up for lack of size else where. If they didn't they would be fine playing their game and leaving everyone else alone. But alas small wiener size creates a condition called Trolliosis, in which every last ounce of logic, and intellegence are sapped out of them, and then they gain an overwhelming urge to post things like Ur g4m3 is teh suk!

Hey theres good reasoning!!  I think if you kept your comment to yourself, people would respect this post a bit more.  OP complained about WoW trolls and all you did was stoop to their level.

I am a WoW player, trying beta in LOTRO.  But, you would probably call me a troll simply because I play WoW....  Sometimes you gotta take the comments and roll with it.  Forums are just a place where people post their opinions, stupid or not.  Here's a note to everyone... telling people to not post their opinions on a public forum DOESN'T WORK.

I don't think anyone who hasn't played WoW can really comment on what "troll" comments are coming from WoW players. Theres a reasoning behing why so many WoW players feel that LOTRO is a "WoW clone".

Also someone said WoW was a copy of EQ1 mostly, no way!  I played EQ1 for 5 years, the difference between EQ1 and WoW was like night and day.  The more I read these forums the more I realize people are just against the "Concept" of WoW, more than WoW itself.  Concept being a well put together game that is very popular.  WoW set the bar, and many people compare new games to WoW.  It's just fact that you can try to deny.  WoW copied things from other games, no doubt, but what it didn't do was copy almost every facet from one game, which is very much what LOTRO does.  The MMO community needs something new.  I also read someone said you have to play into the level 20s to see what this game is all about..  Most people won't do that.   Why don't they grab your attention before that?

out of those 8 million subs for wow, 4.5 million are probably first time mmo players so they more than likely assume it was the first mmo ever and don't realize it is nothing new to the veteran mmo player.  WoW did not invent mmo's it surely did not reinvent it.  All blizzard did which is a smart move was take the features of past mmos and improve/streamlined it.  I've said it before in other forums but the only thing wow really did new was the way they designed the customizability of their UI, which is good and bad as depending on the ui you use it makes and easy game even easier.

LOTR is no different it takes past mmos and tries to improve on them, for instance the questing/trait system is a good improvement on the standard questing.   Graphics are improved while still maintaining good performance on older systems, although i think lotr graphics could use a few more polygons in their models.  either way all mmos are basicly the same with just few differences that tries to make each one of them stand out in a crowd.

That was me.  I have played both game EQ and WoW too and I like WoW a lot, it is a very good, very polished game.  But the truth is it took almost everything it has from the games and came before it and refined them, just as LoTR does.

Fundamentally almost all PvE fantisty MMOs are basically the same, WoW added a lot of polish and took out a lot of the downtime but I cannot think of one *major* innovation it brought to the sub-genre, other than being more fun than the games that came before it.

Turbine is not looking to reinvent the wheel anymore than Blizzard was, what they both did is make a game that is more polished, and at least for me more fun, than what came before.

I tried the free lotr tour. Its just another fantasy mmo. Nothing special about it. If your a fanboi then of course you 'll love it. As far as wow trolls go, they have a point. But all these games are the same thing anyways. All though lotr really doesn't care that it up front out in the open steals from everquest 2 and wow. Just look at some of the classes and skills/talent names to see this. Just look at the Hunter class in lotr. Only difference is no pet or gun. Everything else is the same.
  • ColdmeatColdmeat Member UncommonPosts: 3,409

Uh, let's see. Played a Hunter to 60 in WoW, Playing a Hunter in the LotRO beta @ level 12 currently.

Played a "Hunter" in EQ1, EQ2, SWG, and DAoC-Mid and Hib. In every game the class has played very differently from the other. Probably the two that play the closest are DAoC Hunters in Mid and WoW. A Hunter in LotRO feels exactly ZERO like a Hunter in WoW, other than using ranged attacks, and some melee skills. Oh, and traps.

As far as it copying WoW wholesale? Nope. Aside from the ease of leveling, and the low downtime. I suppose, if you were not suffering from logic, reason, or common sense, you might think they stole mail from WoW, or the Auction House, but those have been around longer than WoW.

I'm no fanboi, as Mars will attest, but saying it ripped off WoW is about as stupid a statement as saying Warhammer ripped off WoW.

WoW = worlds biggest sausage fest. Good game though.

Where did WoW get its lore from again?

    Good post.

Of course.  The comparisons to WoW are superficial -- and most people make them after a superficial knowledge of this game.

For someone to say hunters in LOTRO are like hunters in WoW is insane ... Hunters in WoW are a pet class.  That's not a minor difference, it's a class changing difference, and those other posters who don't notice this are either inexperienced with WoW's hunter class or ... well I won't go to the other alternative.

It's like WoW in superficial ways.  When you drill down into the game for more than 'lol i palyed 4 liek an our" ... then you will see that there are many substantial areas of mechanics where the game is not like WoW at all.
