Sure WoW might be a good game, but I like a mature audience and a more complex game, not dumbed down.
LOTRO is beautiful, first and foremost.
The combat for LOTRO, WoW, Ryzom, CoH, and SWG do not have enough difference in them to bitch that one is better than the other.
The community seems nice.
I do wish it had PvP and I do wish there were more classes and races to select from, however, I am going to stick with the game because I like it!

yer i argree with you not so much on the game having more races ( that would take it away from the lore ) and not so much on the PVP that just pissed me of on WoW people keep asking for duels and stuff got annoying,
but the rest yer i left WoW last week for LOTRO cnt wait till sat to start the beta

Didn't seem strange to me but then again seeing the poster's name I sort of expected that trollish behavior.
the only other game this year that has realy caught my eye is Stargate Worlds that maint beacuse i am a huge stargate fan am WAR looks quite nice two but thats it realy for me

If you want to put money on it, I'll take the bet. It's a solid, polished and professional game. it runs smooth on current hardware, looks great and is fun to play. The other games you mentioned may do well themselves, but I don't see any reason why they would cause LOTRO servers to empty out.
All the games you mentioned have big question marks for me. With AOC, I have sincere doubts about the depth of a game that can be played solely with a gamepad on a console. WAR is being developed by EA.... that is enough to make me hesitant to buy it. Gods and Heroes looks like it might be a little instance heavy and too guild warsy for my taste... and it's being published by SOE.
One or all of those games could be great, but I don't think any of them can be considered a sure thing at this point.
Just because the launch of LOTRO is going to empty out the vanguard servers doesn't mean the same thing will happen to LOTRO when other games launch.
