Both games are skill based as opposed to level based
They are both pretty balanced (although some people DO start off with a higher level of INT and STA)
Both games are progressive and have DAILY updated content.
Wikipedia specifically you can roleplay an asshat, and post false information on subjects you hate, or be a hardcore raider and try to prove century-long theories incorrect. I hear the drop rates are fantastic on the latter.
The games can get a little repetitive after a while, and some of the topics bring out a less than mature community, but what MMORPG does not have these problems?
Also, the updates are pretty seamless. Rarely ever ANY downtime.
A LOT of PVP although you can only duel people usually, and there are no real objectives except to discredit the "internet n00b" and make yourself feel better.
You can also raise to the rank of "1337 h4xx0r" which opens a whole new slew of opportunities.
I'd give them a 9/10, and impressed they haven't gone pay to play yet
And don't let people tell you these aren't MMORPGs...

Multiplayer -- check
Online -- check
Roleplaying -- Check (look at all the 40 yr old males acting like they are 18 yr old females)
Game -- check
but its not for everyone...like eve^^

Gunz The duel : this is a pretty cool game not really an mmo but really fun. The only thing that costs is premium items but you dont need them if your are good enough.
Actually thats it as i have tried to free mmo thing and most suck ie you get what you pay for. However i am waiting for 2moons to see if thats any good.
Other than that, Cabal is also a good game and Cabal Japan is free to play, there is an English speaking guild that you could join too. The game has very sweet combat animations, and all the classes are good!
Dark and light came out today. Thats a good one.

I like Fallen Sword myself. You don't have to download anything, you play it right on their website, which means you can play it from almost anywhere (Including work unless they block it). It's a nice distraction. Follow the Link below to check it out.
The American/global free to play cabal is taking longer than expected to get up. But you can play Japan fine, like I said they have a guild up.

Shadowbane is probably the best free MMORPG.
It's sorta tricky to download, and on the website it still says 1 week trial, but thats just out of date. If you find a site to download the client, and create an account on UBISOFT.com you can play it free forever. Large scale pvp with player made cities and guilds/nations. Short grind too, it goes to level 75, and even at lv 60+ it barely takes 20-30 minutes per level. So straight to the hardcore pvp wars.
Can i play cabal online if im in singapore? I went to the cabalonline website and it only allow eurporean players to play... Can i just download the above cabaldatabase.com to play free? And what version and server on your link?

its basically a 3rd person shooter with heavy heavy emphasis on skill.... I ve never seen a lvl 1 beat a lvl 50 in any other game ive played. Lots of fun and free. Check it out
