I agree with the above. Its an awesome game though the stats could mean a little more.
Recenet nurfs to scale back on how fast the game progresses pissed off quite a few people and they have really borked a few classes in the process, espically yhe captains and the lore masters but those are things I hope to see them fix very soon.
This is just a single item question, ie I am asking only to state the main reason I had hoped that Ive covered most reasons (which are mentioned here on the boards).
This game has the single most engaging introductory story arcs I've ever seen in an MMORPG. The black riders....Sauron's Eye....it's just incredible. It makes you feel like your character is taking part in something fantastic.
Agree with Daring it runs great on my lap top . I think that may be a part of why it becomes a hit . The developers knew folks were not willing to upgrade there machines so they took general specs many folks had and did a great deal to make it playable and enjoyable for the average pc/laptop
Here is a short (very short) list of what I like about this game. I could go on a lot longer but at some point they’d notice I’m not actually doing work.
1) All of the little things. Amusing conversations between hobbits on watch, flocks of birds taking to the sky, detailed and interesting quest text, the proper placement of building, farms, trees, etc, so that it feels like a functioning world, differing swim animations, the music system, the list goes on and on and on…
2) Content density. LoTR does not have the biggest world but there is *so much* packed into it. I have been in the open beta for over two weeks now and I have not stepped foot outside of the bree lands yet there are still places in it I have not gone, ruins I have not explored, quests I have not done. Everywhere I turn there is something to do, to see, and to explore. And I think I found more quests in Stradle (sp?), one small hobbit village, than I did in the entire zone of Westfall in WoW.
3) Quest based game play. I hate exp grinding but I like quests a lot, so the way they have set up this game is perfect for me.
4) Solo and group content. I play odd hours and often in small bursts. For example most morning I have about 30 minutes to kill between getting ready and when I have to leave for work. The solo aspect of LoTR allows me to log in, hammer out a quick solo quest, and long out feeling like I got something accomplished. When I have more time on my hands I find a group and tackle one of the many quests involving epic enemies.
5) Monster play; some people hate it, I love it. The ability to participate in end game PvP starting at level 10 is a wonderful innovation. Also the monster quests are well written, lore appropriate, and a nice break from the main game. (Ummm elf-kabob)
6) Low magic world, again something that turns some people off but I like a lot. I find what magic there is in the world stands out far more when every third person is not throwing around fireballs of some kind. This had a lot to do with my choice of the lore master class.
7) Having a plot line and story being told. It has been a very long time since I was in an MMO that made anything more than a passing effort to tell a story. (Note this is not the same thing as having a backstory.) LoTR not only does this it does it well.
8) The lore and the LoTR IP. I love lore and it is everywhere in this game. Also going to see the Shire (which I have not done) means something to me, where as random Halfling village 172 does not.
9) The graphics. I find the world simply stunning and I have over 150 screenshots already. Simply I have never seen a better looking virtual world.
As cheesey as it sounds, I am not going to vote because I really do agree with all of the above I can't really pick a single reason that I love it, it is the very fact that it does all those things so well that allows Turbine to own my soul.... atleast until I get distracted by some other shiny thing. =P
This is just a single item question, ie I am asking only to state the main reason I had hoped that Ive covered most reasons (which are mentioned here on the boards).
There is no one main reason I like the LOTRO, it's the whole picture with all it's little bits. There very rarely is one reason I like a game. Though I can sum it up best by simply saying that I find it fun. All the reasons I listed above are reasons why I find it fun, I could add more but I can't pick one which is greater than the rest.
The single most important reason for me is that I get to become part of a story line. After doing the story arc intro quests and the ones with Strider I feel apart of the world.
Some other reasons include not requiring an excessive amount of time to see achievement in the game, the world is beautiful, its Lord of the Rings, and the world can only become better with new content updates and expansions.
Only a couple downsides for me which are high cost of repairs, classes could have a bit utility, and I havent figured out how to sit down at the pub to drink my ale.
My only concern is that they dont make most of the end game content for only 15% of the population like Blizzard did for WoW. Developers need to redefine end game content to accomodate 70% of the population instead of a small minority. I did my time for well over a year spending 4 or more hours in a dungeon for multiple nights a week. I dont ever want to waste my time like that again.

It is sort of counter intuitive but to use a chair you need to stand next to it and type /sit.
I am a casual MMO player. I don't like games that force me to spend hours playing to achieve some useless preset goal. LoTR seems decently paced for those of us who aren't 'power gamers.'
Whether intentional or not, I found the poll questions to be loaded, so I'm not voting.
I will say that one point the poll failed to mention was that the game is polished. The classes are balanced for the most part, many little details have been implemented, and the game is rock solid.
I was fed up with the SWG debacle, and unfortunately VG was the first of the new games to feel the repercussions of my SWG experience. Had I not played SWG first (and for 3 and a half years of hell), I might have stuck with VG. But polish and stability are paramount to me now.

While it is statisticaly valid to ask a question where the respondent only has one option to choose from (here you ask for the main reason), you should have added another option: "Other reason".
Comments
1. Very few bugs. (i've come accross very few all of which have been fixed.)
2. Beautiful landscapes. Absolutely stunning, have to stop and take screenshots frequently.
3. Loot. The animals only drop what an animal is likely to drop i.e. No money, weapons or armor. They do drop things you can sell or use in crafting.
4. Very quest based. The majority of the experience is got from quests, meaning no mindless mob grind. The quests have a good story behing each one.
5. All classes can function on their own or in a group.
6. So much to do. It may be a small world but Turbine have packed so much into it.
7. The traits and titles system. many traits and titles to customise you character with.
8. So many little touches that just add thet little bit extra to the game, such as the mail system, the flocks of birds flying past and many more.
These are just some of the reasons I like the game. LOTRO does have it's negtive points but in my opinion the positive outweighs the negative.
P.S. Next time leave off the poll. It is influenced too much by your opinions of the game. Just let people answer in their own words.

Sure, its not perfect, and it won't be my "last MMORPG" ever (but none ever will be.)
But I'm sure I'll have some fun in the next few months....what else can I ask for?
