So, what's new in CoV?

sololocosololoco Member Posts: 542

I played CoH a while back. I also played COV beta and began the game upon its release. But that was a while back and I haven't been in either in a long time.

I also returned when they added the new zone for level 40 and up, I forgot the name of it. I think its called something-ville. Anyway, I couldn't play that zone due to my graphics card I think. When I tried entering that zone all the colors went crazy on me and I couldn't see anything. So I wasted the money for the month I had paid. I've since upgraded my comp so I wouldn't have problems now.

My question is, anything new? Anything worth going in again? Or is it like before, not too many players and gameplay the same way? I checked the games forums but didn't really see anything new except some costumes changes.

Thanks

The zone you are talking about is called Grandville and it is known the be one of the most graphics intensive zones in the game. Their are is now another PvP zone call Recluses Victory. Lvl 40-50 PvP there. There are meymem missions now, you go into Paragon City and destory stuff, and rob a bank. Other than that there is nothing else new I can think of. HOwever in a few week Issue 9 comes out that that will have hamidon for villians, and a crafting system. Oh I almost forgot, there is also Lord Recluses Strike Force. However its not that great, it requires certain ATs with certain powersets to beat. On CoH side there are Safeguard mishs (opposite of Meymem mishs), and one of the zone was redone. Issue 9 will bring the Statesman TF and revised Hamidon. The game play is the same, and there are about the same number of players. Once you log in the servers are listed in order of population from biggest to smallest. Freedom is definately the biggest server. PvP has seen some needed attention recently, not that it has done anything yet, but a PvP event is planned for the summer. Just so you know, CoV is atm a little low pop compared to CoH because alot of poeple how got CoV to PvP left when the PvP zones had problems but now they seem to be coming back. Remember, one subscription pays for both CoH and CoV. I can't tell you if there is anything worth coming back for, because I'm not you. My opinoin is that CoH/CoV is the best game ever.

Im not sure if there were custome upgrades, but if you know what your doing you can make the hottest female toons of any game.

Also at the moment its about the only thing to play while waiting for winter releases mmo wise.Im hearing reports from people on the test server that inventions are blah,no word on base raids being fixed yet,and server population imbalance is reaching the point of no return. This company needs a staff shake-up.Most of thier issues are standard fair in mmo's,it's just there not handling them.Of course this thread would be deleted  over this post on the official site, guess thats there solution atm.

Inventions is an opinional system that will help make your hero/villian more powerful. Unlike in games like WoW, crafting is NOT required. you can play PvE without ever touching inventions., PvP wize, inventions will give you a slight advantage. The stuff about thr base raids is true, however you can still do instant ones, however you'll have to put up with some bugs. As for the server pop imbalance, thats because villians in some peoples opinion are weaker than Heroes. Also, some like me, prefer heroes to villains as heroes is funner to me.I still play villians a little but not nearly as much as Heroes.

I think the villian/hero pop imbalance is so obvious and basic, that It's unbelievable it wasn't forseen. It is a massive grind to level to 50 in cox.well you have everyone playing heros for 18 months and all lvled.Than you expect those hero players to go thru that again with villians.

Incentives needed to be given from the start to make lvling villians easy(especially  lvl 50 heros, they should have got a /20 or /30 .server pop balance can be corrected somewhat via xp/rewards bonuses. This is nothing new, many games use these techniques,it's basic mmo management.

    Why does the imbalance matter?

Just hard to see a great game blundered.you need pop on servers for raids, lvling and most of all to keep pvp somewhat balanced.5 to 1 hero vs villian is somewhat unbalanced.Might be good carebare pvp for hero's though.

also since they wont balance them as subs erode,it seems like everyone is re-rollling to 1 or 2 servers. That will lag the heck out of them and problem make some accts. unplayable.

I didn't know people still played this game.  I quit when people had stupid dress up contests and didn't want to do anything at all besides that.

Pick a server other then Freedumb...

    j/k.

Actually, if you find a good SG/VG, you're never w/out a team. And finding one is as easy as checking the boards and running some mishs w/ the members.

What else were you going to do?  Go in the same cave or warehouse for the 1000th time?  How about running the same old missions over and over?

The best thing going for this game is the costumes.  That's the one part that Cryptic really got right.

  • sololocosololoco Member Posts: 542

That part is true. The missions are all the same, all of them.  The same caves, the same warehouses, everything. That's the main reason players get bored quick, too much repetition, too much.

As far as the populations, I don't know. Seems the only time I saw players was at beta and when first released.

I left, my main reason for leaving was exactly that. The sameness of the missions.

Where i think Crytic really missed the boat on missions , was the meyhem missions.I really enjoyed those and if cryptic had embraced them alot more, by making more of them instead of just bascially the city and cape ones, id probably have been happy enough to give cryptic more money.

Those large open areas, with a main mission and mini missions scatered thruout were fairly fun.If they had created more of them, heck maybe made most of the missions that kind of huge playground, instead of just doorways into some single building, they would have gotten alot more of my time and money.

I even would have been able to overlook their horrible class system much longer, if the content had been at that level.

Do you think CoX subscriptions would have fared as well for this long if it didn't have the costume creator as it exists now?  I'm just wondering because I'm of the same mind as others that missions are very repetitive so without excellent features such as the costume creator, other shortcomings (missions) would stand out more.
