Help me identify this ship

KryogenicKryogenic Member Posts: 663

I've been thinking about giving EVE another shot eventhough I have my doubts because of the talk of cheating and whatnot.

I haven't played since they did the graphics overhaul so I'm sure much has changed.

As much as I'd like to jump back onto my old charcater, I wouldn't have a clue what does what and I'd end up being broke real fast. Last time I logged off I was in 0.0 space.

So anyway, I'm gonna start from scratch and if I feel like going back to my old character when I feel more comfortable I might.

I'm setting myself a goal to shoot for... and it's this ship:

Any help as to what race, what type, how it performs, and a rough estimate of how long it would take me to train up to being able to use it.

Also, if there are any active Corps that are active in PvE and PvP and wouldn't mind helping me out and showing the ropes I'd be more than greatful.

That's without counting all the time for the secondary skills to actually be effective with it.

Geez. Last time I played I stopped after about 3 months or so. I don't think this game would hold my attention for that long. I could be wrong.

You could take breaks here and there and continuing your training while you are away.

Yes -very- important.... How much was it?
  • If I remember correctly,  there's only a handful in existance because they cost lots and lots and lots...and take a huge amount of time to build as well.

Its also really a ship that  requires a well organised corp to finance, build & support

Hmm, how do I put this lightly....

    Well, it's 40 billion

As well as requiring the full attention of the whole industrial arm of a major alliance for a month to get supplies for it.

And of course don't forget the 500 man fleet you need ready at all times to defend it from other alliances, because word WILL get out that it is being built

I get the picture. I need a smaller shorter term goal.

    I'm downloading the client now.

I can't remeber which username or password I used so I guess I really don't have a choice but to start from scratch.

    Is it worth coming back?

    What's different now?

Are the graphics that much better?

Titans are an alliance or corporation asset, not a ship that anyone would want to stick their main character in.  Once you are in it you are essentially in it for good, you can't dock and when you are online you have to either sit in a POS or once in a while you would set up jumpbridges for fleets, occasionally fire a remote doomsday to a cyno, and pretty much never fire a doomsday on grid.

The graphics are the same, nothing changed in that area. The game play changed quite a bit, but if you didnt't like on the first place I dont think it will appeal to you now. If you don't want to spend 14.99 just get a trial account and see how things are.

I was under the impression that they had all ready overhauled the graphics. I saw some screen shots and a video from Revelations and I thought that it had all ready happened.

Wow, they've been talking about a graphics overhaul like it's just around the corner for well over a year now. It's been about that long since I've last played. Someone also said that interface has been streamlined. Is it different?

First of all it depends on which Revilations video you have seen. The old graphics engine has been revamped but it is based on DirectX7 grphics so only so much can be done there. Later this year tho when its done we are getting 2 graphics engines one for DirectX9 and one For DirectX10 for the Vista owners. The interface si much better than it was i really love the overview features now. ill see if i can get screens from the graphics overhaul. BTW the titan pic you linked to is From the upgraded DirectX7 graphics engine.

EDIT:- Sadly i couldnt find the videos showing the Direct X 9 stuff But for a guide on relative quality look up a game called X3 Reunion its of a similar quality [slightly better].

Wow... so the graphics have improved since I played. Awesome.

I was thinking that the screenshots I'd seen of that caliber were from a test server or something.

Thanks for all the info, Slater. I'm definitely interested in coming back to EVE, but I'm not so sure about starting from scratch. I think that that is a really big turn off for me about EVE.

They have actually boosted starting characters.  New characters used to start with around 150k sp (or less), now they start with 800k+ sp.  It makes it only a little mind numbing to start as opposed to brain killing.
