i had to throw one into the "no" column given that my first mmo was lineage 2. the only thing good that came from that is i became ruthless in pvp and immune to any grind that any game has to offer
My first was Ultima Online, my favorite has been WoW. I'm hoping, very much, that I have a new favorite within the next year - but I'm not holding my breath.
I really like this poll and even more interesting is that with 80 votes it's tied at 50%. My first MMO was Everquest and I just couldn't get into it at all. I've spent over a year on many MMOs but I still maintain I had the most fun on SWG Pre-CU. I still haven't found an MMO with a community quite like that. The people I met and the things I did with them really made that game better than anything else I've played.
[Here's a list of all the games I've played and/or my computer specs to show how much more seasoned or technologically advanced I am than you.]
EQ was first, and yes it does hold a certain nostalgia, something that other games have a hard time competing with. However, I liked DAoC better because of the RvR. It really adds something to the game play to be able to engage in both PvP and PvE, so you can switch between the two depending on what you feel like doing at the moment.
AO was the first MMO for me, and I still look back with a smile. Though ive had very similar experiences earlier ind MUDs, and later in EVE Online, WoW, Planetside and not least Lineage II.
Often the best times for me are the beta. Lineage II was the best post-launch ecperience i had.. with wow coming close, but becoming raid hell too fast.
COH had some good weeks in it for me. SWG does bring sweet memories also. Planetside has had the best return-value, of all the mmos ive played.. with wow and lineageII coming in close.
For me its, accepting the new world as "my" synthetic world, that makes or breaks it for me. If I can get that feeling, that this is a place id love to go wild in, explore and raise my char in, then ill have a perfect time.
As in real life, its the small little things that counts. Its important to give the place enough time, for these special moments to arrive.
naah i played runescape and it sucks (now i can only think that it was a waste of like 100 hours ) i hate that game I HATE THAT GAME TILL THE END OF MY LIFE!
Which MMO is the best depends heavily on my mood... while I don't play multiple titles I know that sometimes I'd be better off playing another game I've quit already...
My first MMORPG was Lineage 1, and while I have many fond memories of the game....its shortcomings and poor managment by NCSoft drove me away in about 6 months of playing. I then moved over to DAOC...and have since played many more games. DAOC still is the one I remember most fondly, and stayed with the longest. Once the TOA expansion came along and destroyed it for me, I have been moving from game to game looking for its replacement.
Really hoping WAR lives up to my expectations... I might finally be back home....

SWG wasn't my first jump into MMORG's as I played Earth and beyond (good game poorly managed by EA) and asheron's call 2 by turbine (also managed liek crap by Turbine) But SWG was the most memorable and heart breaking at the same time I had so much fun for the past 3 years off and on til the holocuast that is NGE came in and destroyed all we know.
I basically been bouncing through MMO's one after another trying o get that memorable feel i had with SWG. WoW was okay, but boring and repetitive after a while, no true depth to it. Lineage2 was good, PVP rocked, but economy absolutely blow and ends up feeling more like work than a game trying to get ya next set grade armor. EVE once again has open ended sandbox, wonderful PVP, but feels more liek work trying to get the ships, componenents and the skills to be a viable PVper in the game dont even get me started on mining. City Of heroes,,well that was plain out repetitive and at times buggy before i even got to lvl 20 i said good bye to that game fast. Vanguard ......a waste of $50 ill maybe look back in 6-8 months see if things have improved, if at all. MXo combat was solid, missions were boring and uninspiring, community were filled with a bunch of idiots and elitists. EQ2 was the only one that is second to SWG i am back in that game now cause frankly it is balanced, good engaging combat, crafting isnt a hassle/chore anymore. Gear and money and raids are nice, I am with my guild still. i really cant complain that much about it.
but either way I miss what SWG originally had, so that was my favorite MMORG.

No. My first MMORPG was Everquest. I never "felt the love" or "experienced the magic," just thought it was an interesting and sometimes fun game. I tried playing it again recently, and even with updated graphics and eleventy billion expansions, I couldn't get into it
Ultima Online, my first MMO and to this day my favorite MMo. Followed by World of Warcraft, then Everquest 2. Hopefully WAR or AoC can top my old UO feelings.

Everquest was my first and favorite. Who knows why...I think it's just when you get into the genre for the first time, and you play that first game, you end up comparing every game after it (whether you realize it or not) to your original game.
So far nothing has been able to come close to EQ unfortunately.
World of Warcraft was the first MMO I tried, but I found it pretty dull. Thankfully I discovered Planetside soon after (Feb 2005), and I've been playing and loving it ever since.
Loved it but, after not being able to pay for it and turning to the Pservers iv made it to lvl 99+ way to much. so no real need to go back to the real servers...
Hopefully Darkfall will be my next and last MMO love
First mmorpg I've played was Runescape and i really enjoyed that game back then, but i have played better games(acutally my 2nd mmorpg) like Helbreath which gave me something that runescape didn't. Well, hard to say which I enjoyed the most. I hope there will be a game that will top these two. I am almost begging for one. We'll see what time brings.
My first was Meridian 59, which I thought was the bomb due to it being a new concept. Then played EQ for a long long time. I think my overall favorite in retrospect is DAOC pre TOA.. RvR was just fun. My current active favorite is actually planetside. I love the action and the fact that I can play it with my 8 year old son 8)
Also playing EQ2 for my fantasy fix and about to try out DDO with a few real life friends.

Nope. First MMO was Everquest. My favorite MMO is pre-CU SWG. Will probably never find an MMO that will take that slot.
I still miss it
