impressed ? no i am not

LOTRO probably has the best license available and they are fumbling the ball in ways that the Cleveand Browns can only imagine

the battle system in this game is reminicent of guild wars and the graphics are cartoonish to say the least , i was looking for something fresh and at least captivating in an mmo and LOTRO just does not deliver

character progression is boring , the one thing i can say positive about this game is that the quest journal is very descriptive and gives detailed directions/instructions

the playable classes are somewhat generic, and the races arent all that impressive considering the fact that Turbine had Tolkien's world to build on they did a poor job imo

I don't know how you can describe the graphics to be cartoonish though.  Most people who did not like the game tend to agree that the graphics are taking too realistic approach that makes the game seem a little dull with less vibrant color schemes than what they saw from World of Warcraft.  As far as character progression goes, I am hoping that you have played in closed beta and played your toons behind level 15.  Because honestly, playing the first 15 levels does not portray remotely what the character progression will be like as a whole.

Quest logs are very well done indeed, and it is explained very well as to tell you in very good detail where you need to go.

I am hoping for a better clarification from you on your last paragraph regarding generic classes and races not being all that impressive.  Not sure what you mean by it.  Maybe you are seeing something that I am not.  Just want to see where you are coming from.

It is not a bad game though.  It just may not suit your style of play, but not a bad game by any means.

No game is going to be right for everyobody.

I'm a very jaded mmo vet and I really like this game. The people I know from other games who have tried it have all been impressed and surprised at how good it is.

I found it sufficient to justify more time to try it out right from the start and it has gotten better and better the more I've played. Before I even started, I read from a number of closed beta people that the game doesn't  start to get really good until after level 15. Given the improvements just on the way to 15, I tend to be willing to accept there evaluation as very likely to be true.

Not really sure about the cartoonish comment on the graphics, it doesn't look that way to me. It lacks the overly done bump maps and specularity that EQ2 and Vanguard went with (which to me makes those titles look very plastic, but I respect that some people like them), so maybe it's just not "flashy" enough for some people?

BTW, I found turning the contrast setting in game up, then fine tuning brightness and gamma, really made the game look better for me, sharper colors and no more washed out look. If the graphics seem dull, try a little adjustment in the game options, it might help, it did for me.

Nothing in this game speaks "fumble" to me. It's more like a really good chocolate ice cream, that it's fine quality and has an excellent taste to it is clear, but some people just don't like chocolate or really just prefer vanilla. :)

Reminds me of Marvin from Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy.  "Incredible!  It's even more dissappointing than I imagined."

I'm sure the frog people, ninja class, and tank battles will be in an upcoming expansion.  Screw the lore!

I agree with the OP.  Game is boring without the LOTR story.

1.Bad UI lack of customize keyboard/mouse option.

2 slow DEV at fixing stuff .  Omg we know Sherman is a bug and many ppl are farming off him but its going to take us 2 weeks to fix it just dont go near him yeah right like how many ppl made 15g+ off of him already.

3.Lack of high level content and solo content.  Only takes hardcore 2 days to go from 15 to 35 they better have the first update out before live.

    4. Classes are very weak and boring.  Same skills at diff level.

    5. half of the traits are useless or have no impact.

    6. Lack of dungeons.  This is suppose be a PVE game but PVE is very weak atm.

I didnt care for this one either.  I dont really have a list of things I thought was wrong with it but I just got an overall feeling that something was missing from the experience playing it.  I have gone through a few MMO's lately trying to find my new game of choice and out of the handfull I tried, this was not the worst, but it was certaintly not the best either.

As others have said though, cant make a game for everyone.  I can easily see why people do enjoy it, just didnt have the "feel" that I like in games.

And this class, is how you properly say you don't like a game without having to go into details or be a punk.

Good luck on your quest for finding a new game. I know the pain, friend. In all reality LOTRO will only hold my interest until another beta dazzles me more and I go running like a cat chasing a laser pointer :)

I started in Sept during Beta 1. After 3 levels, I uninstalled the game.

After thinking about it for a day, I realized that I should at least beta test it and report bugs. It was a good thing, I didn't delete the download file. By the time I hit 18, I started to like the game.

I fully understand why people say that the game is boring. I did at one time too, but not now.

I enjoy LOTRO and I will continue to play until something betters comes along.

I've generally enjoyed the game and got to level 45 in beta, I found there was a number of quest to do, but not as many solo ones. However, I'd rather be grouping at that level anyway. And I've liked the Epic line of quests.

I didn't see the high res graphics so expecting the game to look a little better at retail.

Crafting been fun as well, it's not as complicated as some other games, but it's enjoyable and not too much of a grind.

Only thing I wish they had worked on was sub-races, as there is no differences between them other than the title. It's didn't need to be a big difference perhaps just extra traits or something. Such as Men from Rohan getting more durable horses or faster ones.

I also found this game to be sub par, but not overall a horrible one. I just don't find myself wanting to log in and play...it hasn't really caught my interest. It feels like the game lacks depth in a lot of ways. Characters are all basically the same inside of a lvl/class bracket, and everyone is wearing the same stuff.

Everyone says it gets better 15+, but in my view if they can't hook you by lvl 15 then there is something wrong.

Either way though it seems a lot of people are really enjoying themselves in this one so I am glad it's here even though I don't enjoy it. So to all of you having a good time in this game congrats. I just hope I eventually find the game for me.

After you said "cartoonish to say the least" I continued reading, but I had already decided you are just plain wrong. The graphics are just not cartoony at all. Have fun in your next game though.

I'm looking forward to see how this game develops. I'm stuck at 15 and think it's "pretty" good. Hoping further adventure brings salvation.
