WoW cannot be the "best" game ever made because that is based on opinion. It isn't the most popular either because there are free games that are by far more popular. The best game ever made was totaly Mario Brothers 3.
WoW wasn't very innovative at all so how anyone calls it the best game ever is beyond me. Leveling- Same as other games but it included more quests to kill random crap or collect crap. Spells- meh, its on par with whats out there, Melee- Again on par, PvP- Far below other offerings, Raiding-EQ anyone? Sure its instanced and encounters are more complicated but meh, just meh, Crafting- Standard system that is absolutely horrible to what could be done.
WoW is/was popular because it is simple, has pleasing looks, and hit at the right time in the market. Blizzard produced a "good" game that was plenty polished and was inviting to the masses looking for something new. SWG was in CU mode, EQII was too hardcore(at the time), and people were looking for the new game. Up until now people have been looking for a game on par with WoW, it set a standard. LoTR doesn't really live up to that standard, Vangaurd wasn't polished and buggy as hell, so people are still waiting. WAR and AOC look to be the big hope for all these people, especially as Blizzard shows off more and more of their "balancing" skills.

To many poeple either post the good things or the bad things. You do not often see an person making an good report on how the game is.
How many of those 8 million are Chinese gold farmers, how many of those 8 million are bots, how many of those 8 million are on your server, and how many of those 8 million even live on your continent?
And how many of those 8 million are people that will never get past level 20, and only play because of peer pressure?
The proportion of gold farmers is comparable to other MMOs. The proportion of bots also. WoW has very strict cheat detection and banning policies, so I would say it was even less.
And what does it matter if those players aren't from your continent? This is the Internet, we're one big happy online family. I'm probably on a different continent to you, but I can still reply to you
And maybe some people do play because of peer pressure, but I'm sure that happens in other games too.

wow is thee most mediocre game i ever played, it did not hold my interest for long, as to me it is so plain and boring, maybe it would be an awesome game if i never played an mmo before wow, and maybe it would be a good game to me if i could only play an mmo a cple hours a week, but since neither of these apply to me, i think this game blows. but i am sure it is a good game for casual players and first time mmo'rs out there.

It is not a question of numbers, Lineage II starts with an L... And World of Warcraft starts with a W... W is far more complex letter than L, take a careful look at the typography of the two letters... It has half as many lines, inferior I say. Also, it doesn't matter to me why you like WOW or not, what matters to me is that I like it, but I cannot have people going on the forums, dissing a game that I love... You must all play it, for me, so I can get groups and the like. You must conform.
But try as I might, if I cannot get you to conform, than I shall call on the moderators of WOW's affiliate sites, and other non-affiliate sites to only let through the opinions that help WOW bolster its sales.

Unfortunately the same can't be said for brains. This thread summarises my thoughts on the population that post on forums pertaining to MMORPGs.. The fact that it isn't obvious to folks that this thread is done in jest, is directly attributable to the fact that a lot of people write stuff like this, in total seriousness... Some of the replies indicate that most folks don't read at all, and just can't wait to add there little one liner to the thread. I also got some of the common cliches (WOW folks are kids, WOW is McDonalds, and a cameo by the ever so popular lemming brigade, and Hitler) and examples of the way people try to discredit each other (making assumptions on age, experience, things they could possibly have no idea about). Can't wait till we get 3rd gen postings, rather than the same old, it was funny the first time way back in 98, cut and paste comment debates. For all future threads about anything at all, take the elements of this thread, and just cut and past ad infinitum...
My work here is done, may this thread never die ... (At least not until Anofayle posts "WOW is crap cuz it has raids, I hate raids, I am an uber powergamer, why can I not get the best gear????"... Or one of the sandbox crowd post "WOW would be great if I could play a violin in the inn all day"... There is no intelligent life here Jim...
