Darkness and Light!! Fun game!!

Hey everyone!

Have any of you ever played Warcraft 3? Something called DotA?

Well this game is basically that idea but in it's own game.

If I had to say a little about the gameplay I would say...

Darkness and Light is a team game with two opposing sides (Dark and Light), In DaL each player must choose a single hero - with its own skills, strengths, and weaknesses, and control only this hero in order to achieve victory. The objective here is to destroy the opposing team's town before their "Lord" awakens. To reach the town, each hero must defeat waves of monsters, towers and enemy heroes. Along the way, the player may level up his or her hero by defeating enemies in combat, which supplies gold and experience points. These are both necessary in order to purchase upgrades from shops the in-game shop and combine those items to make even stronger items.

Each hero can learn three "standard" skills, and a special ability [R]. The heroes are split into four classes, Vampire, Mage, Hunter, Werewolf. Each of them have different attributes such as Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence which will help you determine which items to buy for your character.

We've had a lot of posts about this in the past few days, but if really want to know, this is LIKE dota, but with a few key differences.

The shop system in this game is very bland, and simple. Every class uses the same builds every time: agi, int, and str all use the same items, no matter the hero.

The battles are slow, and unexciting. It doesn't have the versatile abilities of dota, so a lot of the heroes feel the exact same, which makes every game feel drab and repetitive.

Overall, stick with dota. This game really isn't all that special, and needs a lot of time to grow to the strategic masterpiece that is dota ;)

Sorry, but I'm just not getting the DOtA vibe from this one. It's awfully slow and the characters just don't feel all that distinct. The experience just didn't feel as easily coherent as DOtA either. But what the hell, it's free.

I don't get the idea here...
You bash incoming monsters and level while being interrupted by the opponent.
The one with the best character versus the other will kill the hero wholl be sent away for some time and you keep doing this until a big boss turns up and then the highest level kills the boss?

    That's all there is?
    This is.... Bad...

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

Methinks you only played the practice mode. The game is basically a direct rip of Defenders of the Ancients mod for Warcraft 3.

The normal setup is that you will have two teams and you want to get past the opposing team in order to destroy their base. In order to do that you're going to have to level up and get new gear before mounting an all out assault on the other teams base. In DotA, there was a major emphasis on teamwork and quick thinking. These game.... not so much. Teamwork is needed in so much as zerging is concerned, but it doesn't take a whole lot of thought. Basically, the team that levels to 10+ first usually wins. Did I mention that knowing the maps and therefore knowing where the mobs spawn has a lot to do with that? You're going to get your ass handed to you often at first. I haven't played it enough to know if it's worth sticking it out though.

Here's a quick video of DotA for your comparison.

and another one for good measure.
