Vista = Problems!

Looks good from the screenshots, I just can't get it to run. Everytime I start URU, I get this message about the Ageis PhysX engine not installed or too old. I select "update" and it retuns a fatal error saying "Installation ended prematurely because of an error."

GameTap support blamed it on Cyan. Cyan support blamed it on Ageis. Ageis appears to have NO support. anyone have any ideas?

GameTap supports Vista, Ageis supports it also, but it looks like URU does not.

OK...we had (had) the same problem.  Here is what you do:

    1.  Go to "computer" and to the "C:" drive (First, make sure that Gametap is open-you can minimize it)

    2. In the "C" drive, Go to file called "program data" (not program files) and open it

    3. Open the "Game Tap" file

    4.  Open the "games" file  *There will be a file inside that is only a #

    5. Click on the "#" file

    6.  Click on the "data" file

    7. You will see in there:  URUExplorer.exe and URULauncher.exe

    8. Right click on "uruexplorer" --click on "properties"--click on "compatability" tab--choose "Windows 98/ME" and "apply"

    9. Right click on "urulauncher"----click on "properties"--click on "compatability" tab--choose "Windows 98/ME" and "apply"

    10. Close explorer, maximize the Game Tap and start the game.  It will run in the normal way now.

Hmmm.   I would have tried Windows XP compatibility mode.

I think that one of the Gaming magazines solved a lot of compatibility problems that way.

However, you could also try disabling our PHX card and see if that helps.

For me, I am waiting 6 months before switching to Vista, as my main system is for Gaming and Vista not so good with current games.

    Good Luck

A PHX crd? Nowhere in the system reqs for URU does it say I need a PHX card.

Wow!  I am so sorry to hear that my directions didn't work for you!

I was on the phone several times with GameTap then with URU people.  Several calls and live chats later, they could NOT solve the problem.  So my friend and I --he knows lots more than me--solved it exactly as I stated in steps for you.  Before we finally figured it out, I was so FRIED, I thought my hair was gonna fall out!

So I know the frustration you are feeling!

One other thing...before doing any of what I stated in the steps, please don't fault me for just checking, but you did uninstall Game Tap and delete URU and then reinstall Game Tap and re-download URU, right?  Also, you did all of that with all spyware and firewalls turned OFF, right?  (At first, for me, Spybot was interfereing with the proper download.)

One more thing...I also had to uninstall Ageis PhysX and then when reinstalling URU, I had to reinstall Ageis PhysX.

How long ago did you get Vista?  I just got it like four days ago, so it took me a while to figure this problem out.

I was going to try compatability mode with XP, but my friend said to do it with Windows 98/ME and it totally worked!

Yes, I'm sorry to say, I did all of those things. 5 hours to download URU the first time and 6 hours the second.

Unforutnately, I'm keeping Vista over URU. All my other games run so much better under Vista. I'll come back and try again after a few updates.

The strange thing is that PhysX appears to be installed. All the DLLs seem to be in the right places...

I've been running Vista for years now (I, uh, work at MS and have been dogfooding it on my work machines throughout its development). I'm running Vista Ultimate (released, not beta or RC) on my home gaming machine.

One thing I did notice is that Ageia's newest release lists Vista RC1 and RC2 as supported, not the final version. Maybe that's the issue?

How do you uninstall PhysX? Manually? It's not in the Installed programs list.

So I had completely forgotten about URU and my gametap account until last week.

I had participated in the beta for URU and did enjoy it.  I decided to go to gametap and re-download the client.  After downloading and installing.....I launched the client and got  a nasty error about my license key being expired!

Soon I learned that while gametap does support Vista....it does not however support Vista 64!

so he canceled my subscription and told me that gametap had no plans on 64 support anytime soon.

    bleh.

Maybe someday I'll get to play URU.
