It really depends on whether you have the items your training for already. For instance say that you wanted to train to fly a freighter. Well if you already own the freighter then you can go play other games for the 30-50 days it will take you to get from lvl4 to lvl5 indy. Now if you dont have the freighter then you need to get the isk which means lots of mining, mish running, etc... Though the best way is to buy BPC(s) and build the freighters (and componets/parts) yourself which means weeks of mining keeping you busy.
It also depends on where you are in your EVE career. For instance, I am traing up all my science skills required to use *invention. Also I am researching ME to 30 on mods and to 1-5 on ships per the max 30 day limits. Because I have everything else in the hangers waiting (datacores, decriptors, ships, mods, artifacts) there is nothing I can do in EVE until it's soup. So i play BF2, WOW, CS, COH or shattered galaxy while I wait for the stuff and my skills to pop out of the oven. If you could que training like you can que labs, well I would not log on except sundays for my corp's gatherings.
* Has anyone had any real sucess with invention yet? out of 18 trys I have only sucessfully invented 3 things a 4 run rook BPC, A 4 run nightmare BPC and a 6 run small hybred 150mm rail gun II BPC. I used 5 firerox ships in the five attempts for the night, 5 Blackbirds for the rook 5-150mm railgun I, and 3 beststowers along with 10 run copies of each item from ME of 25 to 40 not to mention the billions I spent on decripts ot the time involded to aquire the cores. as it stands I would have been better off to have taken half the isk i have spent and gave half of it to the first player I ran into and used the rest to just buy the same amount of T2 items.
OK,... now I remember why I do have to take breaks while waiting on the long stuff. Because nothing give you the same satisfaction as popping around a corner and suprising them by shooting them in the face with the auto shotty.. well except for sneeking up on a sniper nad knifing them
If you want something to do I suggest this game: shatterd gallaxy
I normally just kept trying to raise my funds and experiament with various ship setups while waiting on important skills. But yeah I also am on a bit of a break from EvE myself, though im thinking of getting my account back up in the next week or two once I get some more spare cash. Playing a trial to try seriously making a mining char to see if I want my main account to start getting into a mining barge.
@LeJohn thanks for that link BTW, I am going to take a look at the game.
what do ya all do when you are waiting for long skills to hurry up and train
and suggestions on games that suck you right in while you're waiting for eve skills to train?
sometimes i run missions (6.1+ with minmatar and 5.1+ with gallente), or go ratting. perhaps some colleagues are out mining and i'll offer to haul for them and/or tank. maybe go exploring (i.e. exploration). i might also check some of my buy/sell orders. but if i don't feel like commiting a lot of time to a roaming gang or mining expedition; then, i might just do missions on and off.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Actually, I do the same as the last poster. I keep playing, making more cash, helping out other newbs with the same problems I had when I started this trial-acc. ATM I`m training my learningskills and will probably take a short break from eve after trial to get some schoolwork done before I get back in, approximately at the same time that my instant recall hits 5. I want more SP/hour, oh yes.
Nearing the end of my trial and I`m pretty happy about the game so far. When I come back after trial I will start hunting for the Drake, and possibly dare to put my toes into areas that are a bit hotter than my 0.6 homebase atm
Havent quit EVE yet, and already looking forward to coming back!
(oh, and when I get a bit of free time during schoolwork, fixing up the house and trying to maintain a social life, I play S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadows of Chernobyl and enjoy it alot )
i run races in 0.0 [Now this can be fun when severall ofthe gates inthe course are camped a bit like deathrace 2000].
I train people to PvP well
i help newbs.
These are the main things i do in eve while waiting. Point is there is no reason you cant concentrate on ahving fun in eve while a skill is being learned.
I'm training for 425mm Railgun II atm... Long skills. While I wait, I work 40 hours a week and go to my classes, 16 credits worth. After that I spend time with my wife and play Super Paper Mario. Sometimes on Saturdays I can move my assets around in Eve. I sell stuff and buy stuff. Finish moving all of my assets from my L3 base to my L4 base, round up my old ships and stuff like that. 1 month till graduation!
