Horizons or FFXI?

Heya all,

I really need a new game to play.  I have been playing AC 1 since beta till the current date.   So thats over 4 years!  The game kept me comming back, had fun combat, you could solo, and it had alot of really fun content.  I need a new game now.  I have 3 chars at level cap, and have done everything.  Quite frankly the pvp on ac1 used to be pretty good, but as of late it is a joke.  The devs are really starting to add pure shit.  Anyway, I need a breath of fresh air.  I have ried DAOC, I hated it.  Too slow compared to the fast paced AC, and the skill system blew.  I tried EQ, gah dont like it in the least.  Ac2 sucked massive balls as well.  Never tried SWG or AO(not a sci fi fan), plus I didnt hear too many good things, and of course we all know what a pathetic joke Shadowbane was.

I have played every Final Fantasy since 2 and I love those games, but dont know how a massive online one would be.  I heard some good things and bad things.  Is horizons worth it?  For an AC1 loving player?  I have been watching it for a while online and it caught my eye.  I have heard good things and bad things as well.   Which game do you think is more worth my time and money.

FFXI or Horizons.

Thanks for the input.

Horizons is a half finished game that is more or less doomed.

If you want to know what it is like then compare it to AC2 with morrowind skill system.

Horizons as two classes, the happy go lucky dragon and two legged creatures all with the same skills but different avatar looks.

The game is very buggy. Laggy(I hear they have working hard on this since this will make it near criminal if they release it like beta) and massive LACK of content.

If you ahve played AC2 you will know there are no builds you can enter properly or even open doors. AE has said doors aren't important to the living of the world Istaria. Also no swimming. No pets, No mounts, No proper mob control spells, I hear there is only a minor root spell. Lack of monster types.

Also someone resently hacked the graphcis and the satyr is human with horns and very bad coloured like the other character models.

You have to realise the colour pic are of rendered artwork from the time the company changed idea paths and sacked the better artist. If you see recent in game pics the player models all have a one coloured appearence much like AC2.

This game is a dub. Save your money anyway you can.

Again, ignore Porkster and his comments, if you haven't seen his other uninformed insults in other posts. Horizons is a great game. Is it better than FF XI? You will have to decide that one. Horizons is more of a traditional medieval fantasy game whereas with FF XI you might see all kinds of things. Also FF XI is a mature game and already has many high level characters already, and does not have the newness that Horizons will have, but it is a great game nonetheless and has some awesome reviews.

Played both, still playing FFXI and it is clearly better then horizons. You just can not compare the combat of the 2 as FFXI has them beat by a long shot.

FFXI might not suit you, it does not have any PVP yet , there is almost no community feeling in FFXI more of a single player game than MMORPG. Graphics and combat system are pretty good though.

as to Horizons well i don't know yet.

I would have to agree with the lack of community in FFXI. The graphics are are good and they have alot of missions and quest. The combat in FFXI is like every other mmorph, nothing special. It is harder to lvl up and the death penalty is bad IMO. If you wanted a tough game to play you would probably feel good about your character when you get to a high lvl. FFXI just wasnt my game but it is a good game, IM going to try Horizons now because nothing else is out at the moment :)

Personally, I didn't like FF-XI. Too much down time and a group forcing system that made EQ look flexible.

Check the FF-XI message board here for more of my comments if you really care to read them.

It would have been great if I had oodles of time and about 5 other friends who did, too, so that we could all log in at the same time and level at the same time.

I personally got bored with FFXI rather quickly.  I like to solo most of the time, and I really couldn't solo too much in FFXI.  I have to agree about the lack of community in FFXI.  I was picked up by a guild in Horizons right when I started the tutorial, and I've found the information they've given to be most helpful.  I also like the fact that right now EVERYONE is at the same level, so the entire game is progressing together.  I didn't like the idea of trying to compete in FFXI with a bunch of lvl 70+ chracters from Japan.  My biggest plus is that on my server, everyone seems to be more mature than players in FFXI or SWG.  I don't see a whole lot of trash talking or l33tspeak at all.

Also, you should know that the respawn rate for resources and mobs in Horizons is much faster than FFXI.  I really got tired of trying to level in FFXI only to find that 2 characters already wiped out everything in the area I was in.  In Horizons you can still level fairly quickly even with a large number of people in the area.

Horizons is a totally new and fresh experience. Give it a try and I promise you will not be dissappointed. There are many reviews on this forum. Check them out and be amazed on how many good reviews there are.

I played ffxi for 2 months and i played horizons for 2 days .FFXI feels like a breathing world but horizons feels like its empty sorta like that npcs and the characters are just models insted of fantasy.

FFXI is preaty fun the best mmorg ive played but i quit because i got sickly addicted (my mental health was  in  a bad state)lol and also because the game was a little too cutesie for me and the customisation for your characters looks are horrible its like alot of the same people evarywhere but its got lost of adventure and depth in the game and it was realy fun. The game play is cool too and the interface is easy to use crafting is fun also if you stick with it they are going to come out with quest related pvp!
