how good is this game?

castarcastar Member Posts: 19

i've never actually bought this game but i played it at friends houses and made characters and such but never really got into it.  just recently i've decided to buy it finally and i was just wondering if that was worth it.  i know there's going to be a lot of hard core EQ players getting on to me about this hahahaha.  i liked when i did play it and i hope its actually a good game to own.  if anyone has anything to say then i'd be glad to hear your opinion.

thanks.

I played it for 2 years finishing a couple of years ago. i wouldn't have played it that long if i didn't like it. Towords the end i got bored but that was greatly due to financial problems, lack of time to play, and a disipating guild. (seeing as i was the guild leader and had trouble getting on and our new members were lets say... really annoying, we screened them well but sometimes people just get past it, get a couple of friends in... and well cause havoc)

The biggest problem was either Beggers, or the lack of customer support. One day they would be great.. then they would ignore u for a month or so sorta thing in the hope you would forget about ur problem hehe.

Still the game has gone alot further than when i played it and to tell you the truth i have been itching to play it again. - I don't know if i could go form having lvl 56 chars and stuff to having a lvl 1 and nothing doing the same thing over again tho.

And EQII is focusing on Group based play too... so that one might be out of the question.. we shall see how beta goes, if i get selected, and then i might be inclined to buy.

The worst thing is being the only person you know into this sorta game, cos its so much better when you have RL friends in there playing with you aswell as a buncha online ones.. i babling and straifing from the point, as always, so i shall post now and bothher yee no more

I played EQ for 3 years, it is the best MMORPG to date.  I have played 11 other MMORPG's and I still havent seen one as good as EQ.  The only thing is there arent really many noobies just starting out, almost everyone is lvl 65, so you might have a hard time finding good groups etc.

Laying in bed, looking up at the stars, a single thought passed through my head. Where the fuck is my roof?

sooooo it would not be good to buy unless you had a good high level friend already because there are not many new people that are your level to team up with?  ok.  sounds good.  like i said i have friends that play and some of them are good.  thanks every one.  so i guess i'm going to buy it since everyone seems to like it so much.  thanks y'all

Some posters listed the newer and newest servers in EQ where you will find the most new players.

EQ is still a NICE game. It is worth trying just to experience a classic MMORPG. There are negative things about it, but the positive things still outweigh the negative things.

IMHO you should not buy all the EQ expansions, but instead wait for EQ2 to come out. You will have little to lose by starting out fresh in EQ2. Unline the vet players of EQ who have been playing EQ for years and years who will be hesitating to check out EQ2.

Of course if you can easily afford it and have the money, then buy all the expansions for EQ and dive right in. If you plan to play EQ more than 1 month, you MUST buy the Bazaar expansion. It is up to you if you want to buy the expansion that allows any player to teleport almost anywhere in the game, instead of relying on the ships and other players.

If you do decide to play, just buy Evolutions. $30, and it gives all the expansions you really need for now (the newer ones won't do much for you starting out).

I just came back to it after a 3-year absence, and it is much better than it used to be (some of the really stupid timesinks like travel have been largely eliminated).

Been playing for 4 years and still put in a good amount of time.  I love the game, will probably never completely stop playing it, though there will be a pause while I start EQ2.  I plan on playing both and will take something pretty serious for me to change over to just EQ2.

thats cool.  i don't even have a character on EQ1 though and if i'm going to buy EQ2 then i might as well just play EQ2 and not worry about EQ1 then right?  oh well.  your not the first person i've spoken too that has played that much.  i should have started earlier.  oh well.  thanks for posting.  talk to ya later.

Is there a trial? id like to try it... but if there is none but the only way to get into the game is a credit card.. im gonna say "Bah, screw it.." it'd be nice if there is though.. then i could test this game mettle.

You don't have to do the credit card thing.  there are game cards that pay for 3 months of gaming.  If you get one of those and go get Evolutions (package with original and all expansions except 2) then you have 4 months to give it a good honest run through.  It is more than enough time.  Once you get the basics figured out, the game gets more and more fun the higher level you go.  Then you decide you want to be a different class and start all over but twinked from the gear of your last character....image  If you like fantasy type games, then I highly recommend it, it's really worth it to give it a shot.  Just my 2 cp.

I'm not saying don't bother with EQ if your going to buy EQ 2,  quite the opposite actually.  It really is worth it to get in there and get the feel of the EQ world.  Plus if your really looking for something to do while waiting for EQ 2 to release, why not get a background in it.  It's really worth it, I promise.

i understand what you are saying but i have another question.  would i be o.k. if i just didn't buy EQ1.  Would the game still be the same (EQ2 that is)?  well.... i'll probably end up buy EQ1 anyways but i was just wondering.  well thats cool.  thanks.

Of course you would.  EQ 2 is going to be a little new for everyone, was just recommending EQ for background and passing time while waitingfor the release which is at least sometime after mid August, it's by no means a prerequisite.

Meh... I dont wanna bother doing that.. if they want to advertise there game better id say they should make a free trial... only companies with greed would not make a trial... oh ya... your idea is good but its just that i'd like to TRY the game.. not having to go and buy the game from stores...

The gamecard idea would be good for me.. and i like the fantasy genre taste... problem is... I dont want to stick to the game for i go to school and i dont wanna stick to this game like glue.

    Thanks for replying to me..

If you don't want something your gonna get sucked into and want to play for hours on end, definitley stay away.  Game is highly addictive and you will find yourself many nights saying "OMG! The sun is comng up!"  image

LOL...aye, takes great willpower to say "OK, I've gotta get up in three hours guys, I REALLY need to go." when you are in a group that is just owning.

Buying this game boils down to several KEY factors:

    Buy the game:

    1. You have friends who play

    2. Are a patient person

    3. Enjoy corpse recovery

    Dont buy this game:

    1. CORPSE RECOVERY

    2. CORPSE RECOVERY

    3. Level Loss due to death

    4. Inhumane amounts of downtime

I've played eq for over 2 years, quit, resubscribed, and quit for good. In all that time I had great fun playing and exploring Norrath ( I believe EQ's zones are unrivaled by any other MMORPG), but having to beg for a speed buff spell (SOW), just to retrieve my corpse which is laying at the feet of 23 Sarnaks in the temple by the ledge in Ill Omen is sin against all that is good in the hearts of Man.  If it weren't for corpse recovery and the bastard that thought of it, I would probably just about never get rid of EQ. At least not until EQ2.

ya out of all the people that i know who play it, the corpse recovery is the worst part and the cause of many unsubscribers.  will any of that change with EQ2???  i hope so...  well thanks for your posts.  while asking around, that was definitley one of those "down" things.  i can imagine how much of a buzz kill that can be to have to retrieve a dead body like that.  ugh!!!

    oh well.
i hope it turns out for the better.
    bye

CR system has changed dramatically in EQ2, with graveyards and the graveyard zone in EQ 1 it has as well.  Corpse runs are easy comparitavely now.
