How can I (USA) play with friends in Europe?

An old friend of mine in Holland sent me DDO, because we have been talking of playing online together for a long time. I installed the game and created an account with COG (the Euro administer of accounts), but downloading the data etc. is taking days! Is this an issue with the European server? Is what we are trying to do even possible with DDO? If not any suggestions on a game that functions inter-continentally?

LOTR Online will not have a lockout if DDO doesn't work out for you. I can't answer your question on DDO though. You might try posting in the DDO forums under guest general discussion and see what they might say there or maybe the same thing on the eurpoean DDO boards.
