Ok here is the deal I have a P2.4Ghz 768MB ram and a GeForce 4 Ti 4200. Is it worth me trying to run this game or will it give me a beat down and send me to the blood bank to sell blood so that I can buy a better computer to play this beast. Also I am a sucker for new games and always seem to run out and get the latest games my down fall in life. ha ha oh well I guess I am just a sucker

Well, you can turn down a lot of settings in the game. I have seen the config panel for EQII and you can really adjust a lot of features in the game.
One of the cool things is that this game will get better as hardware advances. No system out at the time EQ2 is launched will be able to run the game with all settings maxed out. So it gives you something to look forward to

Before thinking of buying a new computer or upgrading it :
WAIT for the new motherboard with PCI express slot to come out.. or it is a waste of money. It is sheduled to come out somewhere in late 2004 to 2005 i think (not sure). I heard that it will improve quite alot the graphical performances.
You will need a new graphic card that can support PCI express.. those cards are supposed to come out very VERY soon.
My config :
Motherboard: P4C800 Deluxe <-- Can go up to 800 FSB
Processor: P 4 2.4 Gig (533 FSB) <-- cuz i didn't bought the 800 FSB to save $ /slap forehead ! doh!
Memory: 1 Gig of DDR 400 Corsair running on Dual Channel (running at 533 same as my Processor)
Graphic card: GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128M on AGP 8X
Hard drives: Raid
Like you can see.. i almost have the same config. And i am thinking of buying a new computer. I won't do it till PCI express is out. I do belive that EQ will run great on this config if all the options are not maxed. I doubt any computer will be able to run EQ2 maxed, or at least without lag.
Hope it helps.
Now playing : FFXIV
Waiting on : TBD
Best MMORPGs played : EQ, FFXI
Mainly want an Operating system that officially supports 64 bit processors as well as plays EQ2.

A GF4 will play EQ2 fine, Moongard stated that he plays on one at Home. Remember SOE made the engine VERY flexiable. Its made to detect your settings and lock the max possible settings on your PC to its ideas, so while you could lower the settings you couldn't go higher then what the game thinks your PC can handle.
AKA your max settings will be different then the max settings of a high end system.
I agree with Zakor about the boards with the PCI-E slots, but you really don't have to wait forever to buy one. SiS will be putting out some motherboards as early as June this year. Next month. Here's the article:

I just got finished rebuilding my sytems but only had about $350.00US to spend. I'll upgrade it further when I get the money. Probably wait till xmas or after to buy a board with PCI-E slots though.
Edited this to correct some of my spelling. Made several posts last night in the wee hours of the morning after sever pints of Guiness.

I'm in the same boat with you raptorfalcon. I did have an older Intel Celeron 1.2ghz processor with just 256mb RAM and an older ATI Radeon 7200 card. Was a good system in its day. Even ran ok with most games if I turned down graphics settings and tweaked the machine, but that was until motherboard crapped out.
Since I had so little money to spend....I put in a PC Chips M825VXX motherboard (266mhz bus), AMD Duron 1.6ghz, Samsung 512mb DDR SDRAM, and ATI Radeon 9200 card. Not a system that will turn heads, but plenty adequate until I can spend more money. Not sure which cards will be compatible with EQ2, but we both should be able to play EQ2. Just have to turn the settings down and won't get to see all the eye-candy.

I'm sure you will be able to run the game fine, maybe not in full graphics settings. But it will still run fine and look 1000 times better than EQ. Remember, the game devs cant afford to make the minimum requirements too high otherwise they lose ALOT of customers.
If you are someone that needs the highest graphics, smoothest gameplay and the best of everything you may need to upgrade. If you want to jsut play the game, maybe not in full settings, you will be just fine.
-Night.Stalker - VFA25 - Lo-Mac (yea, yea, it's not an MMORPG)

Did you read the system requirments on the EQ2 site?
System Requirements
What are the game's requirements?
-Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
-Processor: 1GHz or greater
-RAM: 512 MB
-Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible. Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64 MB of texture memory
-Sound Card: DirectSound compatible audio hardware
They want a 2.0Ghz+ CPU and at least 1GB of RAM to run the game really nice.
What will he do next?
