Having played games like Shadowbane, which was completely ruined by Ubisoft, and Lineage 2, which NCSoft has done nothing but stuff further down the toilet everyday, I am definitely looking forward to WAR.  I still play Lineage 2 now, but it's more just to pass the time.  There's really nothing out in the MMO world right now that looks worth it to switch to.

I'm sure people would want to know why I hate playing Lineage 2, as it's such a highly rated game here.  The reasons are quite simple; NCSoft NA treats it's players like crap.  Bots are constantly found all over the server, and when you report them to GMs, you receive a cheap pre-made message that talks about how they are "building a case" against said offenders.  When they actually DO finally ban players for botting, they do a half-assed job of it, and it's only a matter of a week or two that almost every bot train is back up and running again(i.e. I've reported this lone bot train in a zone I frequently solo in at least 3 times a week for the past 2 months.  About every 2 weeks, every bot in the train gets banned, except the one player running the whole thing.  He's gone through 3 sets of characters now, but the retarded GMs don't put 2 and 2 together and realize that MAYBE banning his lead character is the answer.).  There's no enforcement of adena(gold) sales either, as people constantly get away with getting characters botted to high levels, and then find them selves equipped in full S grade hours later.  The GMs in NCSoft could fix this game in a week just by doing that, but they are too lazy and incompetent to get the job done.

Lineage 2 HAS the potential to be one of the best games out there, but thanks to it's extremely lackluster service, it's nothing more than a time filler while waiting for a much better game to come out.

I would then look to WoW, as while many people criticize Blizzard for their bad developing decisions with the game, the one thing you can never say they are bad at is customer service.  A few friends of mine had their accounts hacked a couple of months ago, and after a day of discussing what happened with Blizzard's customer support, they had their characters back up and running in no time.  If you were to get your account hacked in NCSoft, they would do absolutely nothing for you unless you personally went to the police to get a theft report filed on it(and I'm sure any self respecting person would love to explain a video game hacking to a detective...).  However, even though WoW does possess the kind of competent GMs that quickly and effeciently work to keep the game full of legitimate players, it's still a lackluster game that calls itself PvP focused, when everything is really based around PvE raiding.

After this entire spiel, I'm sure you're wondering why I'd put it here in the WAR threads.  Well, the first sentence of my post should clear that up.  I've never had a problem that I can remember with Mythic's support in past games, and the game looks to be focusing more on making the end game PvP oriented, rather than the WoW reputation/PvE raiding grind.  Sure, you can PvP alot in WoW, but you can't do anything monumental, like take over Orgrimmar for a day.  In WAR, it looks like these kinds of things will be possible, and the focus will remain on making sure players can enjoy nonstop fights that actually accomplish what most PvPers want when fighting others; a real victory over their opponents.

As far as the hype goes, I'm sure this game will be going into beta this summer, so it's not totally hopeless to get excited about this game for now.  If it wasn't for my friends hyping this game to me, I still would have thought Lineage 2 was the only thing for me to play.

A few things that keep me from worrying about WAR being overhyped.

    1. I saw a demo of WAR at last year's Penny Arcade Expo and even a year ago the Alpha version looked great. When you see it up close, you'll realize the UI and the graphics only bear a passing semblance to WOW. They look to be two very different games.

    2. From what I understand, Mythic has a strong track record with DAOC. The other MMOG company I used to have a lot of respect for was Turbine, but they've made some serious mistakes in the past - including AC 2 and to a point DDO. As long as SOE doesn't get anywhere near this game, I'll be happy.

    3. The developers have a very strong idea what they want in WAR in terms of PVP. Compare this with the flip flop attitude over at Blizzard - we want world PVP! No wait, we'll set up a system that only rewards battleground grinders!  No wait, we'll set up lame objectives you can capture for a minor buff!

World/Environmental PvP can be a ton of fun.  I played WoW for a bit right when it was released, and I still vividly remember many and varied PvP experiences that were environmental.  I remember we raided this like tauren village, killed all the guards and things and then torched the place! It was awesome!  I wish there was some sort of reward for pillage or something that everyone received; it was really great fun!  I also remember the Hoarde retaliated and reclaimed the village.  It was very cool.

I am more of a PvE but PvP in WAR seems awesome and is integrated in PvE.  Further, the quests are like zone-wide, which I think is fun.

I am absolutely excited but trying to keep my expectations reasonable.

so what do you all think, is there too much hype going on? is that a good thing or bad thing?

Watch it be like Dungeon Runners.  I will laugh for weeks.

Wow so much flaming about stealthers. god ya'll need to get over it. they weren't even that difficult to kill... go back to the camelot boards and flame about it like the WoW kiddies do. No need to call the people who put the time in to build them up wuss's and noob's. I thought ya'll had a bit of decency, can't you at least pretend to be civil. I mean honestly, flaming about stealth.. So original. Object collision is great and all about trying to make the game more realistic, but have ya'll played any games with OC hardwired into it? Complete nightmare, people blocking walkways in noob dungeons and going afk at doorways in capital cities. Very simple for anyone who wants to be a pain, to be a pain. Such things always attract kids, should we really be trying to input ideas that attract WoW players right off the bat? I'm shell shocked ya'll talked such trash about something that people have always been screaming, nerf nerf nerf, for years even though its not as easy as people who haven't played them seem to think they are. Makes me wonder about ya'lls mmo experience. Only real flaw(of stealthers in pvp) they had in DAOC was the buffbots and the massive abilities available excusively to stealthers. *Sigh* Lets all just try to walk this off and act like it never happened.

P.S. If ya'll are desperate for a compromise how bout you just suggest that the "stealthers" if they have them(eventually) dont go completely invisible when stealthed, dont have their names above their heads, except you can still target them. Similar to how you see stealthers when they are near you in DAOC, except minus the name.

200,000 former daoc players vs 6,000,000 former wow players=Holocaust :/

Ranged dealers in War will have upclose short range abilities so no reason to have stealth. Instead of shooting ducks in a barrel they will have to make sure they stay at a certain range and they will be fine. What got me excited about war Was watching the podcasts and video of the months on Warhammeronline.com. Did you see the one where the press gets to do a scenario mission. It looked like a blast.

As far as CD goes i dont really care about it. Guild wars has it and it always annoyed me.

It is very hyped, yet I see nothing wrong with it. To me an anticipation of a great game is a joy which even a huge disappointment can't eclipse. I was crazily anticipating Vanguard and though it was a bitter shock for me when I actually played beta, I still like what I experienced back then. And if a game proves to be great, than I'm happy beyond any sense. But really, I spend much more time anticipating games than actually playing them, so if I don't let hype get me, I'll just be one sad person.

    I cannot explain the sadness
    That's fallen on my breast.
An old, old fable haunts me,
And will not let me rest.

Frankly this game looks like guild wars 2 with everything that the original have. People will hype it, people will love it, people will complete it in a week, people will whine about it.

I think you'll see a game most like DAoC but mixed with an easy to use and polished interface like WOW all mixed with the Warhammer Fantasy IP.  Obviously there is much more to it but thats my guess in a nutshell...

That's not too far off. It will have RvR very reminiscent of DAoC. The interface to this point looks like your standard UI, action bars amd everything across the bottom. The bar is similar looking to the one you see WoW but also has some characteristics of the LotRO with the build up circle. I don't see anything that will be like Guild Wars beyond the fact it has PvP in it. The biggest differences will be in how the game plays.

Iv never played Daoc but I do like the ideas from it seeing as I have look up the game, and battle feild ever changing hands with both sides vying for control but never getting the upper hand and always fighting... it makes for a good lasting game... logging on capturing a zone logging in the enxt day to coninue the fight onword or try to keep what you just claimed sounds fun... lasting fun mind you...

same developer(mythic),same engine(gamebryo), I would expect the mechanics to be almost the same,im not in awe over CD its been in other games for years now.

They got an IP this time,so ide imagine the toons will look ahh, real

And they have more money this time to make it

Im hoping they go with 8player grp.with 2 sides and 12 clases, but only 4 AT's,a 6player group is gonna cause alot of re-rolls.

Im not sure what the underlying reason for instas are.Daoc was fine without them.Imo it's a server population balance technique.
