i remember back in the day when i used to play pokemon for hours... this was back when they only had red and blue and before the stupid cards came out and everything... had almost every pokemon and almost all of them were level 100... good stuff...

but now i hate it with a passion and pray that such a game will never be allowed to soil the good name that is "MMORPG" (not that alot of other games already havnt, but pokemon would deffinatly be the worst =P)...

altho we already know there would be quite a few people playing it (most of them would be like 13 though =/)

no matter where u come from... no matter where u are now... no matter where ur going... its all about the EXP

well peeler, those ideas kinda hold me back too : the audience who would be playing would be placed in the category "Hairless-scrotums", but never the less the idea appeals me, but the community would screw it up(If they would pay ofcourse, since the average 14-year old refuses to pay)

Not into Pokemon, but hey. Alot of other people are. Guess I was too old to enjoy it being from the Atari and D&D years growing up.::::31:: I would probably give it a looksee though.

  • Though I say pokemon does have one of the best rpg format there is. Yeah some will hate it but actually if u sit down and thing about it, pokemon is one game tat u can actually plan out your skills properly and sending which pokemon in first will actually determine your overral strat. ALmost every pokemon (save mew and mew2 in the original ) has a weakness/strength and choosing a balance team will actually determine the trainers skills. One of pokemon real strength is the 200+ ( i only played till silver ) chioces to make.

Only thing is.. how the mmorpg gonna come in? Like how ffxi series changed into realtime combat over the convention turn base style? Hard to incooperate the play style i say.

Why do people play game to cheat?

I don't understand how some of you guys are saying that this "would be a very childish mmorpg" implying that there are not kiddy mmorpg's...

    just good, hardcore action ones...

but there already ARE kiddish mmorpg's! i mean...just look at CoH!

While there are no 3D versions of a Pokemon MMORPG, there are 2d and text ones out there of pokemon MMORPG.

Anyway, I really don't want to see it, but I'm sure some do, so whatever, I voted no.

Ok.. POKEMON MMORPG. Using the concept of "pokemon", then YES. If there is like , POKEMON ONLINE , MMORPG. NO.. heck man.. fk!!! Using the concept of pokemon, making a full 3D environment. You start out in a town, let's say u can choose from 10 or so. Then you venture out into the wilderness, using your first "pet" , that you keep in some devices, but not POKEBALLS, make them cooler and make your "pets" look cooler. Imagine yourself playing the game, you start as a noob, and on the way, you battle other players. The combat system won't be using ur player to give commands.Instead, you can switch to your "pet" and figjht in a FPS or 3Rd person mode. And you will have a panel to make your player heal "you" with a potion. Wouldn't all that be cool if it werent name POKEMON?

What a bad idea, this craze came out in this country a few years ago and has finally gone away. dont make it rear its 'cute' yellow head again.

Pokemon was only ever played by 10-13 year olds when it was about, just give em a football and send em outside onto some grass.

i don't think it would turn out to be a very good game, it just doesn't seem like it would work. But if they were to make a 3d version of it with a different battle system thats just single player that would be decent but we can just keep it to one game not a hundred stupid different colors games with different stuff on it.

The ideas good. It's pretty much the same idea as any MMORPG only completely revolving around summoning. It'd be fun to collect COOL looking monsters (not pokemon) and use them to level em up and play online and fight against people. I think it's a good idea. The thing is they need to use the idea and mature it. Not use cuddly little furry animals, but rather dragons and other demon type monsters. The game would essentially be Final Fantasy X online. Which isnt too bad an idea.

The problem, if word gets out it's like Pokemon, the servers will be overrun with kids that managed to get their parents to give them a credit card.

Isn't Monster and Me (a MMORPG) a lot like a Pokemon MMORPG?

Pokemon has dark monstrous critters, you just don't start out with them... (and they aren't actual demons)... other than that, its a great summoning RP, and it lends itself to MMORPGism quite nicely...

I would definitely be against FPS or teken-like combat since Pokemon has never been like that, you coach your pokemon through the fight and level them up... you get one to level 100? good for you, there's at least 249 other pokemon that you need to play with?

If you add in some minigames (also prevalent in the pokemon franchise) you can get the socializers...

Sidequests and a well thought out continent with deep caves and massive forests for the explorers...

Lots of Pokemon with powerful abilities for the power gamers (including increasingly and increasingly rare and endangered (and powerful) pokemon) for the the achievers...

And let the griefers join team rocket and rob people on the dangerous roads, let crafters make poketech...

I've been thinking about this idea, and outside it's kiddy stigma (not actual kiddiness, but it's reputation) it has all the earmarks of a great MMORPG... it lends itself to the genre FAR faster than Lord of the Rings or Matrix or Star Wars or even Warcraft... it just has a slightly younger fandom...

And it's guaranteed to make money... lots of it (which means more expansions) and that money from casual gamers means more content for the powerboys...

    (I'm rambling) it can't lose!

the game itself is a great RPG, in my opinion. the general community of a mmorpg is mostly lies over 15 or 16, or that is what i believe. yes, there are exceptions(OMG N00BC4K3!!!! GIVE ME ITEM KEKE) but generally a very nice place to dwell around.

now the game itself. i just thought about it, didnt dig deep into it, but just the idea of a huge world, filled with pokemon, kind of made me smile inside. now some of the problems i though of were ofcourse spawn-camping. i thought of a (maybe temporarily) solution , which if ofcourse the most obvious one : spawns move to other places(i dont know the sufficient "MMORPG"-term for this, but i assum everyone understands me. if alakazam, or any strong pokemon, spawns in beats-the-crap-out-of-me town, everyone will rush to that town to catch the alakazam, because news like this will be heard by anyone in a few minutes. so it isnt like that alakazam spawns there or mew spawns there, but just spawning in random places(expect the newbie zone) so that you are really happy when you see one, and not see it as "oh just another alakazam"

hm, gotta go now, will post some of my ideas later

    PS

bshrboy, i believe youve never played the game. i myself always thought the game was so kiddy that even michael jackson would get an spontaneous ejaculation, but i played the game myself and it just was .. a great game to play, no doubt about it.

Actually, You might be interested to know that a recent poll of gamers conducted by USAtoday has the average age of gamers at 29.  MMoRPG's tend to draw more older gamers then young.  See the artical here.

    http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2005-5-12-gamer-demographics_x.htm

As for the game, I think it would be just as viable of a game as any other MMoRPG based off of a Movie or Popular game.  It's not one I would play (Think of all the pikachu nitemears! :)  ) but it would probably draw in a new crowd.  However to be viable I think it would not be able to charge a monthly fee due to the younger audience.

To think that I was 14 years old when I got my first PC....

Picturing a computer-stricken 10 year old is both disturbing and harrowing:

When I was between my 10th and 13th year, all I was interested in was girls, drinking like the big kids, and (once in a while) playing on my video-game console.

If I were any sensible parent, then I wouldn't allow my kid anywhere near a mmorpg until he played his quota OUTSIDE.

Thus, a pokemon mmorpg would only be inhabited by pedophiles and such >.<

The show is a kids' show, sure, but the games, at least the first few, rock!  Judging pokemon by a dumb cartoon is like... it's like saying Matrix sucks when you've only seen the last two movies or... the original Star Wars trilogy sucks because all you saw were slow fight scenes with lightsabers...

If all you've done is watched the show, you know NOTHING about a pokemon game... Pikachu and Ash don't really have anything to do with it, honestly.

If it was a... Transformers Armada or Ninja Turtles game I could understand (1, 2, 3, 4, Turtles! HAHAHAHAHA!!!)

yea because having your son play with girls and drink alcohol at 10-13 is SO MUCH BETTER than having your child play pokemon!

    is that what you're saying?

I think the concept would be pretty cool. Im not a fan of Pokemon but the idea of catching creatures, training them and battling others would be kinda fun. I am suprised i've never heard of anyone trying that before.

I won't lie.  I loved the games.  Heck, I even played that Saphire version.  Really I think it would work as a mmorpg, it would be like monster and me only ya know... better.  It would be targeted toward kids though, which, as stated before, wouldn't pay.  Of course you have to look at the fact that it has world-wide appeal.  It would probably be pretty successful and personally, I'm suprised they haven't tried to make more money off everyone by making one...

Personally though, I think the game Digimon World 3 was pretty good and would make a good mmorpg too... (yeah, I know there is a Digimon mmorpg, but it sucks).  The game had the lame card game and all but still it was pretty fun...
