My first "Skrimish"

tvalentinetvalentine Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 4,216
my first skirmish was with 4 other fellow barbarians against 2 romans ..... we won with one casualty. I would give you more detail of the fight except there was TOO MUCH LAG. I really looked forward to the combat in this game considering the rest of it is in the .......... beta stage (i dont mind this). I like how the devs work really hard to add more content, but honestly i think one of the things they need to put on their top ten is performance. No way should a 7 man battle be soo lagged that i cant even attack or move. Ive played other games that have had atleast a hundred people in a castle siege (LineageII) with little to no lag, and this was back when it first came out, and my computer wasnt as good as it is now.

Just curious, but does Lineage II use instancing for big castle battles?  How large is the world?  Does the game allow players to build all kinds of devices and huts on the ground as well as store large amounts of items in open sites right where battles take place?  Perhaps RV has bitten off more than they can chew but it would be great to find another game that does so much and yet remains stable.  I would like to know if it's currently possible.

no, there is no instanceing in Lineage 2
      How large is the world?
i would say very large, and its still growing

nope but i did play SWG Pre-Cu and that has better graphics then RV and again whata know it runs smoother.

since SWG NGE broke the original SWG there is no STABLE game that has some pf the features of RV, but then again RV as far as combat was, it Did NOT work. So you got half a game.
would also just like to point out this happened back in mid april, although i doubt the lag is any better considering they've been working on everything but stability, as far as what their priorities were in the forums. And again i wished this game would work, it has a great combat system and everything ...... It just needs another year or more of development to polish and Finish the features they said they would get in, but like any other major company that has a deadline and  a budget, money becomes a problem, thats why they released this so early.

The recent weeks of lag you spoke about are over.  Something got fixed about two weeks ago and there has been very little lag since.  It always seems to be hit and miss, but last night we had a big battle in Erring with 9 romans and about 7 barbs with several NPC guards running around and there was zero lag.  Even though we romans were defeated pretty badly, it was still very fun.

By the way, in SWG there was no way to drop items on the ground.  All items existed either in a player's inventory or in a storage container or in a house and houses were pretty much instanced from the rest of the environment.  RV has much more "things" which can be laying around on the landscape during battles.

glad to hear there isnt any lag. And your right SWG didnt have it where you could just drop random stuff on the ground. But it did have 435456456 times more houses (exxageration .... but it had alot more then the stuff on the ground in RV and houses it has.) Also isnt each square of land on a different server? just asking.

oh there's lag, just not in empty boards...

when in corst, do as the romans do: bitch about lag. they have the problem of certain guilds building in any free space possible, for instance, there's a massive field full of furnaces and retting pits, a metric fuckton of roundhouses, another 200 or so project sites filled with everything imaginable... around 300 handcarts nonchalantly parked in a 'cartpark'...

don't believe everything kemarik tells you ;) he's a hopeless fanboy, it isn't perfect yet, but it's getting much better.

There is no instancing in Lineage 2, so it feels realistic. The world is HUGE, it will take a LONGGG time just to get from one side to another, trust me. Your third question, not really but I believe in the next few updates, you can build seige tank type of things.

As for RV, I have some questions as I am interested, is the combat fast-paced? How big can battles get?

combat can be fast- or slowpaced, depending on the skill of both fighters and luck.. two experienced fighters with good equipment have been known to fight for more than 5-6 minutes..

there have been battles of more than 30 people with minimal lag, just not recently, recently it's usual to have 6-10 on either side.

Fanboy?  If correcting inaccuracies posted by people about this game in these forums makes me a fanboy, then guilty as charged.

You have greatly exaggerated the numbers above.  There is maybe 30 or 40 large storage sites in Corst, not 200.  PI, at times, will have maybe 30 handcarts lined up, not 300.  And, lag in Corst has been an on-and-off problem ever since game launch when there was hardly any player-built structures at all.

To help answer the question about size of battles, this past week has mostly been raids by barbarians on the roman town of Corstopitum.  One evening we had about 5 barbs being chased by 10 romans and there was no lag, but another night we had about 3 on 5 and the tracking lag was so bad nobody could be sure who was hitting who.  So, not sure if big battles are even possible yet even if we had more active players.

The game mechanics and environment are such that just about anything is possible as far as tactics.  The barbarians have roman spies who reveal roman troop locations, people hide in haystacks in order to launch ambushes, scouts are used to find the enemy, with enough people in your group the formation in which you attack or defend can have an affect on the outcome, etc.  With manuvering between clashes going on, some battles can last quite awhile.

Your still able to to hide in haystacks?! *grumbles about KFR's imcompitance* there is a fix for that but hasn't been patched out yet.
