Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

My only concern is....

The game looks really good, what bothers me however is the PVP. I've read all about how you control cities and sail to flags for instanced combat. Thats all well and good, but unless I can loot something for my troubles, I really can't see this game holding me in for very long. What do you think?

It is my understanding that you do loot part of the cargo of a ship that you have successfully taken.  There is some things that are off limits as far as looting and you do end up with a ship with 1 durability.  So you do end up with something.

Is this, however, an attempt to say, I really want to take everything they have so that they feel the pain?   If so, I hope it doesn't work out that way.  Losing part of your cargo and losing a durability hit on your vessel should be pain enough.

Only a few MMO is made for full loot, and i dont think PotBS is one of them.

But i would love full loot. It would give the game world so much more reason to accually care. No sunday sailing for the fun of it. Maybe you would have to get some bodyguards, the crafters would be able to seell more syuff..that pleyers really need. You would need to care how the nations fight and where the pirates have been active the last hours...all would suddenly have as meaning.

The MMO with full loot is the ones that have been around for longest, due to the dynamic gameplay full loot gives

Depends on the game. In this instance, I don't think it's a really beneficial thing. If you take a bit of a hit because of a PvP loss, that's fine - but loosing cargo? Eve did it right... where a loss in PvP means a loss of a percentage of your cargo and the only way to get it back is to revisit your death spot... and your cargo will only be there if you had "locked" or "secure" containers that were worthless to others.

Original Ultima Online was the best game ever because of Full Loot.

Now current MMORPGs are made for crying children. I hope this game does not disappoint. I am sure I will be addicted just like I was to UO in its good ole days.

IF you are role playing and you get boarded and lose, then you lose your ship. End of story. Blackbeard did not offer to politely give your ship back. I disliked EQ, I dislike WoW because of this cuddling of players...

Ahhhh cry whine It took me 6 months to get the uber sword of death and now it is mine and if you kill me or a monster kills me it stays on my body. I am sorry that is LAME. In Ultima Online I ran around when I was at my prime wit 100,000 dollar weapons and armor. Who cares it is a game. I lost it sometimes and I would go spend a week trying to get or buy another set. If you don't want to lose the good stuff then leave it in the bank.

I hope we can sink ships and you go down with ship. End up in port and if you can stockpile ships you can jump on one of your other ships or you get a free sloop or something. No cuddling I hope. I don't care if you get upset of cry when you die.

Partial Looting for sure, I want to feel a sting, but not heartache and a gutwrenching pain when I die.

It really depends on the maturity of the player base and all around sportsmanship - which is lacking in MMOs these days.  I've seen high level players pounce on low levels just because they could;  there was no gold to be had, no honor, no faction points, and it took no real skill - so why do it?

I've seen a big change in MMOs of late; it seems everyone playing is a kill crazy psychopath.  People treat a MMORPG like it's a FPS fragfest.

If people played these games with some kind of sportsmanship or code then ya loot away, but we all know the kinda people we're playing with these days.

The RPG aspect of MMOs is gone - it's a big pity.

I think a system should be in place, where you could be able to choose yourself. Where the different choices had pro's and cons. You choose full looting, you get perks. Partial looting, no perks.

That's YOUR opinion. Not everyone are that competition-minded. I'd prefer to have a choice.

On the official boards the devs already stated that:

-each ship has several "lifes" (durability points), that means Your ship needs to get sunk as many times as it has durability points until it is lost permanently

-there are only PvP zones around cities when player get a city into contention. The vast majority of the ocean is a safe zone

Read the official boards! The game is not going to be what hardcore PvPer look for...

Go play some more EQ :)

I don't want hardcore PvP I want it to be realistic not a carebear mmorpg like WoW and EQ and most of the others.

Those game get VERY old VERY fast. How long can you sit at a spawn waiting for the dark cloak the the dark elven kind?

In UO you can camp dragon spawn forever and then eventually someone or a group of PK'ers will come in and a battle will start. That is thrilling! Running away from dragons, fighting off the PKs!

Must not be monitoring it because it is still alive and kicking. And has somehow out lasted every single other release if you have not noticed.

On top of that a full reworking is being released. It is not the same game as old but ti is still better than any of the other grindfest around.

I sure do love camping one spawn for the cool sword! How fun!

Why not go play UO then if you like it so much and it is so great?   Video games are just that.. a game, and while yourself and others might find it fun to have a PvP system where you lose everything when you die.. i am sure that is not the opinion of the majority of gamers out there.

Honestly, game companies today trying to compete with the WoW juggernaut are going to do everything they can to make the game appeal to the largest audience they can.  To do that they need return customers and a wide audience..  the "majority".  If they felt that a full loot system as you say, appealed to the "majority" of their target audience I guarantee you would see it happen.. however, that is currently unlikely.

I love pirate games, especially Sid games, but I just can't seem to find a game that is an mmo that is as fun to play.  True, the game does get boring after a while, but I think that these MMO's are simply too complicated

I did but there are so many whiney children complaining about losing their plate mail when they die it is hard to play. You can also BUY pre-made characters which is slightly lame. It has lasted the longest because the game is so great.

It is a role playing game. Now if you were the role of a privateer and you captured a ship you would have some options. Keep it, send it back to port for your King and Country or murder/rape everyone and steal everything and burn the ship. Why do you not have this option?

The reason why is the game will be played mostly by 8-14 year old kids that will cry when they die and if they lose their Gold Encrusted Talisman of the smelly dwarf that they spawn camped the dragons of islar for 23 straight hours to get. Well you know what? We are ROLE PLAYING and if you really were killed by a PK'er than you are dead. It is part of the game and what makes it entertaining. I use to bitch till I realized it is what made it fun.

Anyone that played UO would KNOW that as you ran away from the E-Bolts(Corp Por) through the dungeons hoping you could get far enough away to Recall(Kal Ort Por) back to town because you forgot to deposit your 11,000 gold after you sold all your dungeon loot! The andrenaline is pumping and you are starting to sweat. That is what makes it fun. Not cuddlnig the little kids so they don't lose their high level items. When UO first came out man it was great!

If the game were realistic, when your ship sank, you'd get to swim and cling to floatsam.  Odds are very good that you'd die and then get to start a new character.  Whomever sank your ship might be able to salvage some of your treasure, but odds are also good that it would be unreachable on the bottom of the ocean (and thus removed from the economy).  I don't think that's what you really want, is it?

Personally, I like the idea of PvP zones that grow and fade as conflict around cities develops.  I would like to see full looting though, as they will be easy enough to avoid if you don't want to deal with them.  Of course, in this game, full looting implies the ability to capture a ship without sinking it.  That might be difficult, and I could easily see the captain having the option to scuttle the ship to keep her out of the hands of the enemy.

Is this thread about UO?  I swear Im gonna puke If he mentions how great that game was once more.

I suggest an anger management class or at least go spend some time around children so you can put to rest your fears of them as big meany cry baby types.

I personnaly think it should have partial loot jsut like it does.  Everyone gets something out of it be it an adrenaline rush or a word of caution.  Full loot doesnt take into account the casual gamer.  You know, the people who used to be kids and were hardcore but grew up and have full time jobs and families.  <- These people quit gaming when they get ganked repeatably and lose everything they have so little time to earn.
