i see that guildwars is on the top ten list and currently as i was writing this number one. whats pretty sad for other mmo's is that its not even classified as an mmo. its a competitive online role playing game (corpg). im sure you all know that. it is in some ways similar to mmo's and for that i consider this an subgenre of mmorpg. i think people should start makin corpg. guildwars is a pretty successful game. we as humans are naturally competitive and always want to be better than each other. in these games we can do that without hurting one another physically. now if you get upset emotionally thats your own problem. i think developers need to emphasize more on pvp than pve. lets face it everyone will eventually get bored with pve at some point. its the constant lvlin up to max lvl and doin quests and dungeons or whatever to get that cool item or armor set maybe even a title. but in pvp you are constantly tryin to better yourself to beat everyone else at it. you try to be the best. in guildwars you fight to bring your guild to number one. or you fight to get enough faction to take over the capital. this is impossible cause i heard the alliance in cavalon make there guys donate 20k faction a day. talk about havin no life whatsoever. i could build a cathedral with that much time on my hands good lord lol. you can also fight to be the best in hero battles. now dont get me wrong i want some fun pve also. pve is fun to. but pvp is were you get people to come back to your game in my opinion. that is why i quit ff11, wow, tmo coh and cov. ff11 takes way too long to do anything in that game. wow pvp is jump around each other and hit one another which is stupid lookin. this is the same for coh and cov. tmo was pretty cool but had no point. im hopin age of conan pvp is awesome. with the new combat system and takin over outpost or whatever they are called and gettin blood money it should be good. warhammer looks alright but aoc looks to have more stuff to do in it.

Cant help feeling this is a deliberate topic for inflaming passions.
Nehterless Guildwars is a good game and has earned its position. And yes it is a CORPG, so what.
More "me too" posts from unoriginal "me too" attention whores.
even though this is an MMORPG website i really think that the fact that most of it is instanced is irrellevant, seriously its on top here so it must be a good game, and it draws from the same community as traditional MMOs so it should be here
rating wise though i tihnk it helps that it is free monthly
i personally despise games where you cant jump, so i stayed away (wierd i know)
if guildwars suck why is it up in the top ten? you have your opinions but the majority of the people think its pretty good.
jumping is cool if it has a point. guildwars has no need to jump over obstacles and people usually dont hop around when fighting so there is no point to making a jump button. same with wow there is no point and it looks pretty stupid. guildwars was smart and didnt put it in the game. coh i can understand except when your fighting which looks stupid. the matrix actually made jumping look pretty cool. too bad the game doensnt have much to do in it and gets boring pretty fast.
all this is is my opinion that corpg is better than mmo's. not guildwars is the best or anything like that. all im sayin is that the corpg genre needs to grow.
if you play it 3-10 hours in month
i play gw more only after new chapters
grinding titles is kinda pointless and boring
pvp based mostly on luck in this game
only 8 skills (7..coz 1 of them is rez signet in pvp)
But I can see you're point, if 3million people enjoy GW, it makes sense that a few more games should (and probably will) need to come out.
But I wouldn't call CORPS better than MMORPGs...totally different game styles....for people who enjoy different games...
I don't view GW as the best PvP either. Somewhat simplistic button mashing really... well, sort of like all games really now...

good arguements i like it.
for the voting. if you dont vote then your sayin you dont care. its just like voting for president . if you dont bother to vote then you shouldnt complain for not voting is pretty much sayin you could care less.
now i see where your goin with jumping. it is fun ill admit in wow that you could jump on things for amusement. jumping in fighting needs to go though. maybe its just me but it bugs the hell out of me when people hop around you like a rabbit. it looks stupid and unrealistic. plus it really doesnt help you avoid damage so whats the point?
now that i think about it we probably dont need some more corpg since guildwars is comin out with a guildwars2. it will add some of the elements that are in mmos into it while still bein a corpg. the lvl cap will go up to 100 even more maybe. plus they are adding jumping and other movement abilities in it. maybe guildwars2 will bring even more people to the genre. that is if the monthly fee is still not present. i know they said no monthly fee but you never know.
what would be nice is a variety of different themes in the corpg genre. the medieval fantasy genre is gettin old. we could use new themes like in the future or somthin. or they could do it during the industrial age. maybe even in the caveman age lol. anything new i would look at.
I'm looking forward to WAR because they are working on implementing a point system for their group pvp instances. The point system will balance both sides (if side A has a bunch of elite gear and side B has so/so gear, it'll put something like 3 members of side A versus 5 members of side B to balance). Then the true skill/luck kicks in because gear advantages will be balanced with number advantage. It will be interesting to see how it works out.
Most enjoyable to see "if-you-don't-agree-with-me-I'll-call-you-a-name" mentality at work, regardless if you like GW or not.
Personally I prefer MMORPGs over CORPGs, but then again it depends on what your looking for, doesn't it?

meh, sad to see posters who say something like "GW pvp is about luck" "GW pvp is smashing bottons" .... get into the pvp before u speak.
do u think its for fun that a guild can stay on the first place of a world rank ladder for month's, with the best win/lose ratio? Without having super gear like no other have... but they have simular gear to everyone els.... ? i guess they are good at smashing bottons and pretty lucky ey ? lol...
So I'm just curious to the original OP, are you then classifying both AOC and WAR as CORPG? Because last I heard the only similar CORPG is Fury, but that's just what the gaming media is saying.
Anyhow, what I love about Guild Wars PVP is that you have a variety of ways to just jump into a battle with some friends and still be competitive. The Guild Battle skirmish option is also great for just fighting it out with friends. However, the top PVP areas like Hall Of Heroes are completely dominated by elitist teams that are often just as hardcore about their playtime as any WOW raiding guilds. Just like WOW, the instanced combat tends to get old because in the end there's nothing of real worth that you're fighting for. Even the alliance battle system is pointless because all it does is ensure the top alliance gets access to elite dungeons that don't even offer the same rewards as dungeons that are open to everyone (Domain Of Anguish).
I'm still a GW fan and play from time to time, but WAR's really piqued my interest by offering a system wherePVP has an ultimate point.
