I was wondering if I am doing something wrong. I'm lvl 18 (rogue of course), I'm going combat and I'm mainly soloing with a little grouping. This is my strategy: I always use whatever the best weapons I find- usually two swords-I don't use stealth that much unless I want to avoid a fight, I usually begin battles by throwing my knife. Sometimes I will just run straight up and start hacking away, but that's usually if the enemy is weaker than me. I just feel like I'm doing something wrong! It may just be because I'm I haven't fought in pvp yet. I would just like any tips on using the rogue, fighting in pvp, and any other tips on using an effective combat rogue.
Thanx!

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
Combat rogues should be fine using any decent weapon they happen to come accross. Especially when at a slightly higher level they get a decent opener which works with swords (cheap shot).
You should however use stealth. Starting a battle from stealth and getting in one of the stealth only attacks will kill things faster (use ambush if you have a dagger, otherwise garotte).
I would advise against any new player going to Warsong Gulch 10-19. The level 10-19 battleground is full of twinks and is a pretty harsh environment even for veterans. Instead start PvPing at 20-29, which still has twinks but isn't quite so bad.
Instead of going to a battleground, you should practice working in groups and going to instances. You are just coming up to an appropriate level for the deadmines (if you are alliance) or the wailing caverns (for horde). A lot of the other people going to these instances will also be new players, but it's still a good place to learn. In particular, you should practice trying to sap at the start of fights, in order to remove one enemy from the battle. The instances also have better than average treasure available, so they are a good place to collect gear.
You should also do any class quests as soon as they become available, since lock-picking and especially poison are both important for rogues. The Horde lock picking quest is quite nasty, so don't be afraid to ask for help.

My first character was a rogue, and I tried my best to always creep up on my targets.
At 14 you got:
That is a DoT that will aid you in killing your target more quickly. Not only does it do DoT, but it also adds a combo point so you can reach a finisher quickly.
As for PvP, I always found that experience teaches volumes. Although, testing out PvP with a 19 rogue with no twink gear is not easy. I suggest waiting for the 29 bracket or even the 39 bracket.

When you get cheap shot you can preform an opener which takes away from the DPS of your target. It is a basic stun that lasts a pretty long duration and allows you to build combo points with Sinister Strikes. I found that switching to a dagger for an ambush merely wasted my energy and slowly my grinding down.
I suggest using whatever opener you can without switching until you said cheap shot. Cheapshotting and building up 5 points to a kidney shot and then 3 points to a Slice and Dice is really great and leaves the mob pretty useless most of the fight.

Secondly, there are not that many dps increasing talents you can grab at your level in combat tree. Combat is good later on when you get to spend more points there.
I disagree with your second point. Improved SS, Improved Gouge, and Precision all increase DPS. Combat is the BEST grinding tree for consistant DPS. Other trees only allow good DPS situationally. Not all monsters can be tagged from behind every time. Combat allows openers that do not require being behind the target.
