Hard to find a solid answer, I'll ask here,

anyone know what the raiding expectations are for LOTR. To me this will decide if I buy/play this game. I'm looking for a good raid experience and content, do the developers plan to put any time into this aspect? If so, will it be as expansive as say... EQ or even WoW.

so far there are several types of end game instances (game isn't even live yet, so soon to be more I'd imagine).

6man (1 group, hardest announced instance in the game is a 6 man dungeon)

then 2 and 4 group raids (12 man and 24 man respectively)

dungeons are huge and can last up to 12 hours (that is the max so far I  have heard, and that is if you do everything (most trash can be skipped with keys, etc))

hope that helps!  I am loving this game so far and have played since closed beta 1

Actually very helpful, I'm really looking for something on the scale of 24 people. The more people the more fun, I really enjoyed when Planes of Power came out for EQ and their were 72 mans. A lot of people? Yes. Fun? Hell yes.

If this is really true, then it will be the game breaker for me and I'll move on. I left WOW because I hated being trapped 4-5 nights a week for 4 hours or more raiding end game instances....

12 hours..... thank heavens AOC and WAR are on the way.

Lol longest raid I thikn I attended was like 8 hours and that was cleared all of... I think it was like Vex Thal or something on EQ. Luclin dungeon... had to get 10 shards to get keyed or something. Been years so don't remember all of it. It was fun to me. If I can find a truly expansive dungeon in LOTR, well more than one, I'll be happy. I enjoy the guild raids. Not everyones play style. If they can expand on the raiding aspect of LOTR, hell I might give it a shot. If not, looks like I'm waiting to buy AoC, G&H,and WAR. I'm not a big PVP fan, but WAR just seems like it might shine new light on it for me.

    (Shudder)

I actually still play EQ and have been doing PoP; we just did Terris THule and LMM.

Wow, they are zerg-raids, mindless, half the people pay attention, no intimacy or fun.

It is ironic that I play EQ for more or less eight years, though. LOL.  I would 3 box and so would a friend of mine, so we were able to accomplish a great deal with just the two of us.  The zerg-raiding and flagging all time sinks.  But, if you like them, cheers. lol.

Yea, EQ was kinda a zerg. But I had fun. The 20 mans in WoW were pretty cool. 40 mans were alright. Still fun though I quit before any 25 mans except Gruul, which was just a hardass fight at first. Karazhan 10 mans were alright. Just weird remembering doing UBRS with 10 people... and realising, now this is considered a raid with 10 people.

12 hours..... thank heavens AOC and WAR are on the way. it should not be a issue really , equal gear can also be attained by grouping or soloing. turbine is planning th game to suit different play styles. I hate raids myself, preferring duo'ing or at most a six man group. As a minstrel I rock with every other class in a duo setup.

    I miss DAoC

Whats the point of spending 100's of hours hoping to get the best drop in a raid-instance with no PVP to see how great it really is??

I never like raid-instance like WoW or Daoc being a casual player i cant compete or dedicate the time to do it...

But with out PVP whats the point of having the best gear in the game other than to Flash all the newbs in town saying Aint i cool looking!

Agree 150%, I will have to really look into this.   I play about 30 mins to a few hours here and there, so raiding is not for me and is also why I left WOW a long time ago.

I hope what the person said above is true about same gear dropping from 6 man groups because I'd rather win at life than waste my whole day away in front of my monitor.

Jackdog where would I find out stuff like that, I looked at the forums but that didnt provide any help.

Uhhhh.......YEAH!.....me too....than waste my whole day and night even!  Thats right!  Come to think of it......WASTED MY WHOLE DAMN WEEKEND IN FRONT OF A MONITOR!  I mean...i didn't do that....I was gonna.....but.......nvm...

You are talking about the "Life" board game, right?

    12 hrs.....wow....and not WoW.....just wow.....

  • ubermutubermut Member UncommonPosts: 275
agreed, 12 hours is ridiculously long but keep in mind this is on a 3 day reset timer ( you don't have to do it all at once ) and you can obtain keys that skip 2/3 of the dungeon.. so you're looking more at 4 hours w/ a 3 day reset timer.

    bout the same as WoW.
