Server populations - TOO LOW

I think the games server populations are too low because of how much the game needs you to play to be good also there are no bots ofcourse, and also there are about 8+ servers to chose. so thers also that fact.

they should start joining up servers so more peopel can enjoy the game.  - NOT many people group up to do misisons and its impossible to solo any mission!

Impossible to solo any mission ???   That is so wrong.  I have soloed missions with a blaster, which spends a lot of time looking at the floor.

I really don't understand how you can say that.

I agree, almost all missions can be run solo. I have run quite a few missions solo with my rad/rad defender.

As for server populations, just wait until I9 hits. There are a lot of people who will be playing then that you won't see any other time.

ANd lastly, if you need a bot to enjoy a game I, and many other players, would rather you go play something else.

you could do what i do.  i research which server is the most populated (freedom) and play on it.  solved many of my problems

I think this game is pretty much on cruise control until the next generation (Marvel/DC) comes out.   I wouldn't look for them to invest much more into it other than the planned expansions....

A vital thing to remember about City of Heroes is that level limitations do not exist.  A level 1 player can team up with a level 50 player if the level 1 player is sidekicked up or the level 50 player is mentored down.

Sort of.  There are a few considerations to keep in mind:

    * A level 1 player wouldn't have much power selections.  It's really about level 22 onward you can expect full potency, thanks to having a good pool of powers combined with Single Origin potency enhancements.

    * Hazard zones have a minimum level requirement to enter them.

However, for the most part, the idea that you have a huge amount of players to draw from is true in City of Heroes.  I often see over 1000 players on Virtue during the evening on the hero side alone with the /search command.  Given even a pool of 400, the sidekick/mentoring system should be able to provide adequate grouping opportunities.

If CoH suffers at all, it's only in that it's overfriendly to soloing.  That tends to create a low amount of incentive to go through the trouble.  Still, grouping is surprisingly popular.

Expect to see population spike sharply when Issue 9 is released.

They were nicely populated at one point. But ive not played in well over a year.

Personally, I think City of Heroes has a pretty decent population. For example, you'll always see people in every zone, almost always have someone to play with, as well. Compare it to a title like Final Fantasy XI, where, if you're running through a zone to a new zone will probably not see anyone until you reach the low level areas or a town. If you make a friend (or join a super group) in CoH, you'll never worry about the size of the population.

I agree, I don't have any trouble finding a party *ahem, excuse me* team. There is another forum at this site that is crying about the lack of mmorpgs outside of the fantasy realm. Well, here is one! And a damn fine one, at that. Good stable game, good helpful community. I'm not saying it's perfect, mind you. But it's fun as hell and that's all that matters to me.

But....there are 3 issues planned for this year with Issue 9 due in the next few weeks.....cruise control??

I hope the newbies still try this game. Go to Freedom or Virtue which has highest population statistically. If you're in a weird time zone that might also impact your gameplay. This varies server to server.

<edit> But maybe if you're used to something like Guild Wars in which ev1 is on same server I could see why maybe he might not be used to CoX? He did not provide more detail so he didnt give any1 anything to go by

In all seriousness, do you honestly believe there will be 3 issues this year?  I'm doubtful.  It has been nearly half a year since the last update, and it's already looking like May at the earliest.  I'm betting issue 10 will be sometime around Nov, and that will be that for 2007.

I do, yeah. Either tomorrow or the day after for this release. Then I expect the next 1 or 2 releases will be smaller - with Faultline + Newspapers then and the whole of inventions now, the last 2 releases were pretty big. So I expect small things.

The villain EAT would be nice, or at least something villian-oriented. I know they already have a new zone in the works, almost certainly used by both villains and heroes. And I know they have new powersets planned but not implemented, so maybe something there too.

Don't forget....the next issue (issue 9) has been open to full testing on the test server for a few weeks now.  A significant amount of players are likely playing on that server, as opposed to the live servers....which would deflate the pop.

It may not be a huge hit to the main server pop., but on certain ones, at certain playtimes, it might be noticible.

    Just a thought.

Wow, I'm glad SOMEONE here can think, because you are the only one that has actually pointed that out in the whole forum! Yay! Anyhow, yes i do think we will be seeing alot more population when issue 9 comes out, and also many old players returning to the game (I know I am, i cancelled my subscription to try WoW, and boy am I an idiot for doing so) And I don't know why people are complaining about the population, in my opinion, supergroups help in that area, the only way i could see you being totally out of it is if you are not in an SG and always solo your missions. And what it doesn't have in popuulation (right  now) it makes up in community, something Wow has yet to have.

I play on one of the smaller populated servers, and with the various global channels I have little trouble finding a team. If I want to just play with a pug (pick up group) I send out tells to people start up a team and it is off to the races time.
