building a new pc

im going to order:-

AMD 4.8Ghz  dualcore

2gb DDR667 RAM (possible ddr800)

1gb sata2 mboard

nvidia 7800GT gfx card

u think that this spec would be decent enough to run most modern games at decent graphic settings, and have some degree of lastability, (12-18months or so).

this seems to be about the best spec i can go to before u hit the wall with the huge price increases.

I have a intel 3gz Duel core, 2gb RAM and a 7900gt  and  so far the only setting i have had to turn down on a game is the shadows from Oblivion and that was when running at 1440x900, so your PC should be fine as its quite similar spec wise.

Looks like a good spec but you might want to try and squezze a few dollars more for a better card either a Radeon X1950 PRO or a GeForce 7900 GS would be a big fps improvment, I run a Radeon X1950 XT which I got for just under 200$ on Newegg.com it was a deal, runs BF2 at full settings with no drop of fps in heavy combat, also you can Crossfire it later with another one to upgrade.

If you want some very fast load time try a Raptor Hard Drive 72gig one is lighting fast.

Good Luck with the build and don't forget to mod the case it make the diffrence between wow and WOW!

nice :) felt it was about time i had a major upgrade, currently using:

    sempron 3gb XP

    nvidia 6600fx

    1gig ram

    512ram mboard

not that it runs games BADLY but i often have to lower my settings or resolution cus my frames drop so its gona be pleasent to be able to max things again

edit: there really gona be that much different between the 7800gt and 7900gs then? i played around with performance charts and there doesnt seem to be that big a diff tbh :)
