Will anyone play a faction other than pirates?

in Pirates of the Burning Sea
My concern is that the different naval fleets will not have equatable population.   Will people really choose england over the pirate faction?



The only faction that sounds fun to me is the Pirate faction simply because they have the option to capture ships while the other factions do not.



Nevermind the fact that historically Spain was less of a naval war fleet and more of a land war machine.



P.S. I do not think it is historically accurate that military naval fleets did not procure the ships they defeated (if they survived).  Wasn't it the common practice to promote the most capable officer to captain to command a ship without a captain?

    Pirate sounds to easy, England and Spain are to popular nations.....

    I dont know if france is a underdog or something in PotBS? But i will kick all your asses    or a noob o something

    Sorry if the poll has been done before.  It does seem like a genuine concern.  But, the post war era would support the fact that pirates would outnumber the military naval fleets.

    the game is historical fiction so none of that matters there will be 1 side most likely pirates that will have the most numbers  but that shouldnt sway you to stay away from a game if it is a concern  then let it be a lil 1

    I predict Pirates having 50% of the game population, England having  25% of the populaiton, France having 15% of he population, and Spain having 10%.

    I agree. I feel that Pirates and England will be equal, at about 30-40% each.

    France will probably be the lowest but they will probably get balanced out somehow by the game creators. Maybe a system like Planetside uses Who knows.



    I'll probably try them all bu settle for England or maybe a pirate.. I might even be France



    I'm just trying them all and so far I'm leaning towards being English.

    Right now England has 55% in the poll and Pirates about 27%. I don't know if it stays like this, but I sure hope there'll be more pirates for me to drown! I personally voted for England too, I'll play it no matter what benefits Pirates may have (or France and Spain for that matter, these will probably be underpopulated from the look of things).

     I'll be Spanish. My ancestors were from England but served from Spanish Navy during this era. I suppose that had to do with the fact the Spanish were doing so much mineral exploration at the time and that was my family speciality.

    Personally, I am going to pick whichever faction has the least amount of people.  The way I see it is, the more enemies, the more fun!   Looks like I'll be sailing for Spain according to this poll.  I'll have to brush up on my spanish.

    When I spoke with the Devs they told me 35% of the player base will play pirates. At current in their beta only 10% where playing as spain. I told them I was moving my whole guild from wow to POTBS spain.

    When I asked where their any artificial means of balancing out the population or population caps, I was told "no" and that it wouldnt effect the final outcome of the game. The final battle before the reset draws something like the top 30players from each faction for an all out. The theory is if you have less players in yoru faction it will be easier for you to get into the final dance.....

    while that sounds nice, I am more worried about getting my teeth kicked in by 20 vs 2 fights as my spanish leigon against England

    Interesting.  I was thinking about joining the Royal Navy (since I am in the Canadian Navy) but the ability to capture and "KEEP" ships is only available to pirates, so I might end up there.

    On another note, this is the first I have heard about a "Final Battle".  Whats that all about, and how often will that happen, and top 30 players?  What about us Casual 2-5hr/week type?

    brithih naval officer have the oppurturnity to have the ability to capture ships. but they need to buy that skill and pirates can capture boats without buy that ability. ( i think it is something like that otherwise read this http://www.whitewolfclan.net/pobs/review.htm it's telling you everything about the game you need to now

    Yeah, from what you can see on the forums, most of the people who are already guilded are mostly Spanish, Englosh or French. I think because Pirate is going to be a harder profession to play, there won't be many people playing it once the game gets active.

    I want to play Portugal, but since they aren't an options, if I do play it will be under Spain since they are the closest to my Portugese Heritage.

    Pirates can steal ANY ship, but can not CREATE the best ships. The people who make the best ships are Spain.

    The kicker is that pirates can steal almost any ship! The kicker though is, once you steal a ship your open to attack from anyone so you turn into Han Solo.



    Spain is where all the pvp'ers will go. It will be small and potent like a band of Navy S.E.A.L.S

    I find that hard to believe.  The dev's figure about 35% of the gaming population will be pirates.  But from reading through the PotBS website forums, it looks like alot more than that.  I guess we'll have to wait until June to see for sure though.

    if you attack a smalll ship like shooner m.m you won't have i pvp flag on you but if you attack i ship of the line and take it over then that ship will be pvp flag and open for attack to take it back

    Well seeing your english isn't the best i'd advice you spain or pirate.Anyway... www.whitewolfclan.net/pobs/review.htm   , go to this site it gives a nice overview of the game.In the overview you will also find a link to the official website of potbs.

    I am going for pirate since the dutch are not a playable char....

    At first I thought I'd play british but then I realized a lot of people are thinking of that.  So between Spanish and French I chose French just because I've always hated how they have a bad rep.    I can be a bit of a pacifist when it comes to unfair play (like ganking) though, so I'll probably just reinforce the pacifist french stereotype ...
