Star Wars Galaxies has announced a program to condemn and demolish abandoned buildings, which they define as structures tied to accounts that have been inactive since April 17 2006. They have also announced rewards for player demo crews.
If your Star Wars Galaxies service has been inactive since April 17, 2006 and you do not re-subscribe by May 31, 2007, your houses, PA halls, factories and associated assets will be packed up into your inventory and removed from the game servers at 11:59 PM PDT on June 5, 2007.

"Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it isn't any good"
I am going out on a limb here- I hope this game becomes a good game to play because I want more star wars.
There's been a lot of talk about server merging and why they haven't or can't. Maybe cleaning up the landscape like this has something to do with moving in that direction?

I quit SWG a few weeks back or so but all i can say is finally they are pushing it through. It was such a pain to go through all those empty cities/villages.
Unlike someone here states , for newers players there is nothing attractive about emptyghosttowns everywhere you go.Specially if they are on a nice orespot.
About frickin' time...
My houses won't disappear in the first wave..I've been subscribed within the past year. Only lasted a month though...the expertise system is nothing like what the game used to be...back when it was fun to play.
The way I read it though was that the houses will pack up into the datapads...but the shell of the house will remain...leaving it up to current subscribers to demolish existing houses that have been packed up. So the ghost cities won't disappear unless someone goes through and removes the structures. All the harvesters and factories will disappear though.
I think it sounds great!
Too bad they had to ruin the best MMO ever availble for some fictitious market share.
All they need to do now is remove the "new game enhancements".

Have to agree, so sick of wall to wall empty housies all over the place - on Tat ya cant drive in a line for more than 20 secs without having to unstick yerself from somebodies house invariably called such n suches love shack or equally jaunty name. Used to be time to put ya map on to find all the vendors n stuff - was a fun way of shopping before the purge - now they are 90% empty shells. Will be great to come across a town and know that the folk there actually play the game.
By the way, the games getting better all the time and is no longer the heap of bantha poodoo it was directly after the NGE. Its not old swg, that games gone (sniff) but still fun, especially some of the quests - follow the legacy ones for fast levelling, gear and some imersion - especially like the police type ones.
LOL do you think they will still claim they have a tonnes of players still on even after they have accepted than half the accounts havent been usedsince NGE
BTW all thoose who want PRE-NGE head onto the emulator and support it you not going to get it from $OE.

I used the fact that they activated all old accounts for 15 days to go and take a look.
First I felt a bit nostalgic and almost considered resubscribing for a while to really check it out.
But then I wandered into the city hall and decided to check out the city statistics at the city management console. So I bring up the first option, looks a bit and decides to check the next. Lo and behold, the console does not work anymore.
This was a bug that was around when I quit almost 2 years ago and it STILL there!!!
The reason I quit (which happened about 2-3 months after the first CU) was not any of the revamps or anything like that but all the simple bugs that they never seemed to care enough about to fix.
It might a mostly harmless bug and all so why should I get hung up on it? Because it proves that they haven't learned anything in the last 2 years, they still think content and revamps is more important than a working bug free game.

Wrong!
They are adding new content in the chapter coming up. The HoC chat about all that is in Chapter 6 is tomorrow.
