Anybody else dying to be evil?

I always play an evil character in games. I like this game a lot and I agree with their reasoning for no evil race choices BUT it will be hard for me to stick with it simply because I will tempted to move to another game to play the evil side : )

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

Have you tried monster play? You get to play the evil side in this game. You just don't lvl up from one to cap. Instead you up grade your monster thru spending destiny points that you get from quests on the traits and skills that your lvl 50 doesn't have yet. Check it out there is a write up on the officials about how monster play works.

I have the feeling the will 'release' the monster play characters after a while (half a year/1 year) so you can get out of the battlefield with them. At least I hope so :)
  • GrindalyxGrindalyx Member UncommonPosts: 657

I wouldn't count on that. If they released them from the ettenmoors like you are hoping. This game would no longer be 100% consensual PVP. You would then have monsters running around the shire ganking low lvl hobbits. One thing that turbine has stuck to and not wavered on is that this game will always be 100% consensual PVP. Even with all of the if you don't have real PVP this game will flop doomsaying threads they have not wavered. And these threads have been a constant barrage on the forums for almost 3+ years. Yes i have been following this game that long.

Even with all of these threads threatening the failure of the game the devs have held true to what they said the game would be. Now i see monster play being expanded into new areas that are just like the ettenmoors. But i do not see it the monster players being let loose upon the world of middle earth in a FFA type setting.

LOTR online would be be just a carebear mmo if you couldn't go Dark thats what lord of the rings is all about
  • AmegashieAmegashie Member UncommonPosts: 289

You know, you can play Evil, right ? It's quite simple actually, level to 10 ( about 2-4 hours I guess ) and find a monsterplay terminal. If you don't know the location of one, people in /ooc are likely to help you out.

Playing your newly created monster you can quest, PvP, upgrade it, there are even mass battles and fortress sieges !

You can't actually level your baddie, but then that's just carebear anyway, isn't it ?

well if i can't lvl my badie whats the point in playing well thats a few $'s saved thank's

Sorry but lord of the rings is not about going dark. Or only about good vs evil. It is much deeper than that. It is about over coming ones fears and self doubts. Standing up to oppression and uniting with others to fight that oppression. If all you get out of lord of the rings is it is a war of good and evil i feel sorry for you.

Yeah it sucks.  Just might as well face it, it's a carebear MMO. It's perfect for people who hate getting ganked and PVP.  Wait for Conan or Warhammer....that's where the PVP will be.

You can play evil even without monster play. Not hard at all just roleplay. The only setbacks is no pvp and no races commited to Sauron. But, you could play an evil dwarf, hobbit or human (not many evil elves, but perhaps arrogant?). On my RP-server (Europe has one, yay) there are already guilds commited to RP evil characters.

Several years ago when it was a different developer I used to advocate evil races (always loved the trolls in EQ1 for example) but Saurons minions would not be much fun I guess. If they were to do that in some way you would have to have a system where you could sometime be commanded and forced to do certain things since Saurons creatures hardly could do just what they wanted...

Sorry guys I guess I should have mentioned that I DO know about monster play. Its just not the same though. Its not the same as your toon being evil and going through the game in all of the evil zones and carrying out evil quests. I really do like this game though.....and I havent said that in awhile : )

If i look at the downside no then i won't miss playing the evil side..

Turbine maded a smart move by doing PvP like this because now they only need to look at the monsterside and up their skills or nerf them depending what is needed.

That way we don't have to play a game with PvP in it,where all sides have to be nerfed etc.

Look at DAOC where Mythic had to balance 3 sides.

Kickass PvP game but imposibble to balance 3 realms with 45 classes so it would be balanced in both PvE and RvR.

I can imagine future PvE games that want a touch of PvP to take up on Turbines idea with only 2 sides in the battleground and one side could never leave the battleground..

As for the PvP whiners calling LOTRO a carebear game.

See you in AOC or Warhammer.

I will be the carebear whacking you.

Are you serious? It's carebear because you can't feel better about yourself by killing anyone you see? PVP isn't what all MMO's are about pal, get used to it. Quit bitching that you can't raid low level towns and kill people. Playing the "dark" side isn't even that common of a common MMO element. EQ never had that whole gank random lowbie aspect. and I can tell you that's not to quote your overused term "carebear".  FFXI wasn't that way either, there were a choice few that may have been, but they are no better than the ones I previously mentioned.

I am looking forward to WAR for it's PVP element, but not the max level chars going around killing people 10-40 levels below them.

Your monster starts out at the lvl cap, 50, and is far weaker than a lvl 50 Player Character of the free peoples (known as a freep).

You can do various quests for the taskmasters, like "collect 10 hobbit feet," to gain Destiny Points and upgrade your monster's basic attribute boxes--armor, health, resistances, power etc. Once you peak these you become a "Signiture" monster. At this point 1 50 lvl freep will still slaughter you.

Presently, you can't go to lvl 51as there is no lvl 51, but you can advance in rank up to rank 6.  Advancing in rank opens up specials and upgrades. The only way to advance in rank is to kill player controlled freeps.  In beta, if I remember correctly, it took around 10,000 kills to get to rank 6.  If you are "Signatured" and rank 6 with all your upgrades and "corruption traits" tactfully organized ( forgot to explain corruption traits, but I grow faint and must soon retire), have a clue as to what you are doing, fairly damn skilled with your monster, you might be able to take a freep 1 v 1 and really awe all the denizens in the Ettenmoors with your farocity and terrible honeryness.

Get  your maggoty carcas to the Ettenmoors and start collecting hobbit feet and elf ears, snaga.  Another 5 or 6 weeks and the filth will be inhabiting Tol-Ascaron

I seldom, if ever, play evil characters. The only baddie I played was an Imperial pilot in SWG. Mostly played my Rebel Jedi-in-training. (back when you  HAD TO TRAIN for Jedi!) I actually LIKE playing good guys! :) As for being "carebear" ( a childish term if there ever was one)....meh....who cares as long as I'm having fun!!

    Live long and prosper

I am a PVP guy, but the monster play does sound pretty interesting and fun.

So just to clarify monster play.  The monster character is already capped out at the maximum level, but still weak compared to other lvl 50's and the only way to build up your monster is by pvp'ing other player played characters right? Or am i way off

You upgrade you monster by buying traits and skills for him with desinty points. You get destiny points from doing quests in ettenmoors with your monster. He is lvl capped but he is lacking in traits and skills. He basically has a starting characters skills when you first roll him. Also destiny points are gained by your main character at 200 per lvl starting at lvl 10. All destiny points are shared between all of your characters on your account. So as you lvl up your main you can use the destiny points on your monster. Check out the monster play section on the official forums. Alot of good info there about it.

I don't want to play a monster so much as one of the evil humans... like the corsairs or something.

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
