I subscribed back in august last year for one month only and SOE continued to bill me each month for the next 5 months until I picked it up on my statement.   I only played for a couple of days in august.

I have emailed to them to refund 5 months worth of fees.

Did you not cancel your subscription? They continue to bill you until you cancel it yourself, if I only want to subscribe to a game for a month, I subscribe, then immediately cancel, so that I don't forget to cancel in the future to stop the auto billing.

I did this once with a mmorpg and it wouldnt let me play anymore!  Like, when I canceled it totally deactivated my account even though I should have had like 20 days of playtime left.    It made me so mad...  I emailed them some and they ignored me, and I'm such a sheep, I ended up resubscribing and they billed me right away for another month.

This works with planetside though.  I'm not sure what game it was that it didnt work with.  I wish I could remember so I could complain about them...  I sorta want to say EVE online or DAoC but I dont want to point any fingers since I cant remember straight.

The only MMO where I've cancelled and immediately had my account closed, even though I still had a week left on the account, was A Tale In The Desert, grr.

WWIIOL is the only MMO that really screwed me over in the way of billing after i'd canelled.

I had hit the cancel button on my account and stopped playing. Two months later and they were still billing me. Several attempts to contact them had failed. It was as if they were avoiding my help cries to stop the billing. What i did instead was contact my credit card company and they began to refuse them payment. Apparently they tried to complain to my credit card company and from what i understand the representative pretty much gave them the middle finger and told them that they were in trouble if they kept it up. Haven't heard anything since and i've had no more charges.

LMAO you are mad because you forgot to cancel an account.  Not sony/PS's problem that is yours my friend.  I'll be shocked if they refund it but anything is possible I guess.

Your own fault, but it's a valid warning in general for MMOs. I usually subscribe for a month and then cancel straight away to make sure I don't forget. It's extremely rare a MMO keeps me playing past a month due to their inherent repetiveness :P PlanetSide has been the exception to my rule.

I played a few, but Ultima Online is the only I know where you can choose to forfeit your remaining time when cancelling your subs. Mind they have it as an alternative.

I actually had a good thing happen to me back when I was playing SWG. I used up the free month it came with and played for another month and my credit card didn't get billed, so I played for another month and didn't get billed again. I wanted to try another month but was worried I'd get a bill of the two previous months as well as the new one, so I just cancelled it (mostly because it was getting boring though).

They only billed me for that month when I cancelled the subscription, so I got 2 extra free months to play the game lol. I kept wondering that if I didn't cancel it, would they  ever have billed me?

The subscription options for that game come up as like:

    X month(s) recurring.

Implications being that the charges will keep happening....

SOE have the best billing system of any company. Dont get me wrong - I hate their guts but as someone who regularly swaps between individual subscriptions, station access and complete cancellation I find that their billing system is immaculate and has never over billed me a penny so Im slightly dubious about your claim.
