Crafting - HOW???

gnomexxxgnomexxx Member Posts: 2,920
I'm a tarutaru living it up on the streets of Bastok.  But I have a problem (other than having to dodge being stepped on).  I want to craft spell scrolls.  So, I asked some people in Bastok and they told me not to at my low level because it costs too much.

I don't know though.  I'm having some trouble believing what they told me.  I mean how can crafting cost too much?  Why would it cost too much anyways?  Isn't crafting supposed to be a way to MAKE money?  And if what they told me is true, then no wonder the auction house is empty.

Someone please, tell me how to do this.  I just want to make some spell scrolls is all.  I actually don't even know how to get started.  I've been walking around trying to figure that out even.

To get MOST crafting skills to a level where you can start making profit, you need a few million gil to dump into it.

You don't craft spell scrolls. Theres a vendor in bastok that should sell the low level ones.

Lvling craftskills, at least more than a few lvls, isn't for newbies in this game - sorry but that's true. It WILL cost a lot of money before you can start to make good profits. If it was damn easy and cheap to lvl craftskills, the AHs would be filled, prices would be extremely low, etc.

You will never see the AHs in Bastok, Windurst and San d'Oria filled. These cities are starting areas. After you get past lvl 20 or so, you will not spend much time in these cities, unless when you start lvling other jobs, doing missions for your faction, etc. So except from low lvl items, ppl sell most stuff in Jeuno. Whitegate and Jeuno AHs are connected, but Whitegate has MUCH higher fees than Jeuno, therefore most ppl will go to Jeuno to put stuff up.

    Scrolls:

In the magic shop in Bastok Market (near exit to Port Bastok), you will find every magic scroll you need for low lvls. So there is no need to put such on the AH. To obtain scrolls, you have to do quests and get them as rewards, or fight mobs. Some scrolls are common from trash mobs, but higher lvl scrolls drops mainly from BCNM, end-game stuff and such.

It seems that you wanna craft to earn money. The only good way to earn money early in this game, is BCNM. I think you can start this at lvl 20, but most don't until lvl 30. Hold on to your Beastmans Seals, these are requires to buy the orbs you need to enter BCNMs.

OMG!!!  That is the most helpful answer I have ever received on this site from anyone!

Thank you.  I was about to give up this game but now I'm going to keep playing.  For one thing, I thought all the auction houses were linked.  So I thought it was going to be that empty all the way to the end.

You deserve a big cookie my man!!!

Fun to see that you found the info useful

There are 4 "AH systems" in the game. Whitegate/Jeuno are linked, as I said earlier, and I think Tavnazian Stronghold also links to those (not 100% sure), but there are requirements to access that one.

Outland AHs (Kazham, Rabao...) are linked to either Bastok, Windy or San d'Oria. Mainly because of this, you may be able to sell stuff above lvl 20 in the 3 faction cities. Example: ppl lvl up from around 25 to 32 in the jungles, and therefore some will buy stuff in Kazham, which is linked to Windurst. Still, I advice to sell lvl 20+ stuff in Jeuno, since most ppl will prepare there before heading out.
