Lord of the Rings Online: Emotes in Middle Earth

The folks over at Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar have prepared this overview of their emote system, including a list of available emotes and hints at some special secret emotes that can be unlocked through adventuring.

Self-expression is an essential part of any MMO, and "emotes," character actions accompanied by a description, and often an animation, are a fun way to emphasize your character's mood and convey information.

Some emotes are "persistent", meaning they will remain in effect indefinitely until the player performs another movement action, while some must be entered every time one wishes to use them. An example of a persistent emote is /dance, which will cause Lilly the hobbit to begin dancing a merry jig. She will continue to dance, into the wee hours of the morning, without having to type /dance again unless she cancels the emote by another movement. Emotes like /cough or /shakefist will result in a quick cough or fist-shake, and must be typed again to repeat the action, i.e., /cough /cough /cough /cough (if /cough persists, you should go /afk and see a doctor, or at least /drink some /cough syrup).

The emotes in LOTRO are some of the worst I've seen...unless my memory serves me wrong, your character doesn't even "laugh" when you type /laugh, simply makes a laughing motion...

Maybe early in the closed beta, but now you do laugh, hobbits have a really funny giggle; I love the emotes, especially things like /smoke - dwarves look great smoking a pipe...

When scary things get scared, that's bad...

The emotes are cute, but the problem is they are either command line commands or drop down menu execution.

Be better if they could be a clickable icon or keyable command.

Actually, Ciredric, you can assign any emote, even strings of them, to your hot bars by creating shortcuts.  It's pretty simple - I probably have half a dozen set up on my burglar, at least.
