I have no doubt this product will reside in the 'often used' section of my add-remove programs folder. Be it in Windows XP, Vista, or Linux Version 2011 (Linux will take over as the primary OS of the world by then, Bill Gates commits suicide on August 27th 2010 after Microsoft is bought out by Ubuntu Linux).
This certainly did whet my interest (me wanna play a Necro BIIIG TIME - probably disposed to it since I have a 75 Dhe`nar DarkElf Sorc in GS).
One thing that does confuse me about this game and I didn't really think too much on it until now: Where are all the races?
GS has Human, Elf, Half Elf, Dark Elf, Sylvan, Etherian, Aeolai, Half Krovlin, Giantman, Bhurgal Gnome, Forest Gnome, Dwarf and Halfling. Each one so different and unique (we're not just talking +- 6 intelligence here, really big differences 20-50% sway of stats, areas you can enter, mood of NPCs, everything)
They should bring the Aeolai over (it wouldn't make sense in the timeline, but timeline be damned), my wife would play if she could be a flightless fairy.
As for the races, I think there is human, dwarf, elf and cat people. The cat people, however, are said to not be in launch (whenever that is). They are going to add more human subraces like humans of the north and humans of the high plains (not real names but you get the idea)
Give a man fire and he''s warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he''s warm the rest of his life.
Creating races in a 3d game is more advanced than a text based one. I understand why there is a limit on they races they included. I would like to see the cat people come together though.
Can't wait to see part 3 of their class features. Cleric, Bard and Healer. Hopefully they can elaborate on the dual class features like the Paladin and Lich.
Give a man fire and he''s warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he''s warm the rest of his life.
Well in GS they have just the normal professions, but you get to choose what your profession is listed as. There's about 27 per job. Some of them are a bit off in their actual job... like "Battle Mage"... the list is here:
I bet some of those names will be making a comeback in HJ. - PS these are all the female version of the names btw. Witch = Warlock etc. It's off a site that's all about the female apsect of GS.
I have been keeping an eye on this game for a long time, hence the problem. They are taking way to long to bring this game to retail. I imagine that there will be games licensed with the the hero engine that will come out before this game does. *shrug*

Vanguard was in development forever too, and then they rushed to push it to retail.
I'll deal with them taking as long as they need to avoid another half-assed game release, thank you.

Well, time isn't the magical cure-all these games need is it? They need to be done quickly and with quality in mind. I appreciate your opinion though!
I have never seen any PC game, MMORPG or other, done quickly that was worth playing, with the possible exception of expansion packs.

I have never seen any PC game, MMORPG or other, done quickly that was worth playing, with the possible exception of expansion packs. I sorta agree with you. Rushing a MMO will result in poor performance and bugs, more than expected. But there has to be a threshold in the amount of time it takes to develop a game.
From my understanding, Simutronics revealed Hero's Journey around 1999. I myself heard the game was in development well over 3 years ago. There's hardly any teaser info on the game. As a consumer, I began to wonder exactly how much of the game is done.
I think a MMO can take up to about five years of solid development before people start losing interest. If you can't produce a solid game in 5 years, something is wrong. Either there's not enough money or your employees suck. Both are very bad for game design.
Believe me, I want this game to launch. I love some of the ideas they have but every day that passes causes me to lean towards thoughts of vaporware.

Sorcerer!
Yeah, it will be interesting to see what we can do with the graphics. I wonder if we'll add an "Implosion" style spell for Necromancers? Muhahahaha! There are probably a few other options that will make for a different style of character, but I suspect that will make the class more distinctive too.
Well, that information was about classes, not races. I wouldn't be all that surprised to see a shorter list of races, and not just because this is a graphical game that will require a lot more time and resources to develop lots of races too. Keep in mind that even GemStone didn't have all those races when it was first released, and its a lot easier to add more races to a text based game!
That being said, who knows what Hero's Journey will eventually end up having somewhere down the road.
They release an itty bitty paragraph on three classes, with such groundbreaking revelations as necromancers deal with dead things and rangers shoot bows, and now it's not vaporwear? Lol. I should claim I am making an mmo. Mine is going to have wizards, and you know what? They're gonna cast spells. So I must have a product on the way!
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Believe me, I want this game to launch. I love some of the ideas they have but every day that passes causes me to lean towards thoughts of vaporware. You must be unaware that Simutronics put development of Hero's Journey on hold so they could finish development of the game engine as a separate product, and sell it to at least 3 other companies.
This move generated additional money that could be spent on development of the game -- which has recently picked up again. They have expended their offices and staff, and (obviously) have begun releasing more game info after the necessary dry spell.
This tells me that Simutronics is a wisely run company, and -- because the engine is obviously in pretty good shape if they were able to sell it three times over -- that the game will be a lot more polished and enjoyable than some of the stinkers we've recently seen hit the shelves.
I'm glad they are not rushing now to make up for the lost time. This speaks volumes about their dedication to putting out a high-quality product. I've never played one of their games before, but I am looking forward to this one now more than ever.
Every time I look at the classes I become less sure what I will become. Most of my time in DR I spent as a Barbarian. Though I did have a trader an Empath and there was another guy who was ... well no he wasn't , there is no such thing as a dark guild right?

Anyone who has been around Simu for a long time and played thier games must be aware of how bad they are for in house fighting for supremacy. But I have to admit that while we are waiting for Barbarian love or Thief love or Trader love , whatever love ! It has kept the classes/races/guilds pretty level. So it is easy to see that these guys will take longer to put the game in our hands than most companies. At the same time I also feel very hopeful that this game will come to us much better polished
Another thing to look at for information are interviews.. There are a TON of articles and interviews around. Things are subject to change, of course. I think that's what they do, wait until it's never going to be changed before putting it up on the site in a way outside of the text of articles.
A nice place that has a lot of gathered information is http://www.heroshall.com/ Some of the sections such as races are a little out of date, but if you look through the articles, which are kept up to date, there are pieces of information that correct things.
About the taking too long.. Yes, the Engine, and that selling of the engine also means they aren't in debt to some other company at the moment. Sounds rather smart to me, actually. They're probably better money wise than over half the other mmorpgs in development.

Vaporware no more?

Give a man fire and he''s warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he''s warm the rest of his life.
And I guess you could classify those 12 GS races down a bit futher
Human - Human, Giantman, Half Krovlin, Half Elvan
Elvan - Elvan, Dark Elvan, Sylvankind, and to some extent Etherian
Dwarf - Dwarf, Halfling, Bhurgal & Forest Gnomes
Aeolai - (Sort of in a class all their own)
And they've tried to do basically that with their races & subraces. But it's still just a bit strange to not see a giant or a cutie.
Can't wait to see part 3 of their class features. Cleric, Bard and Healer. Hopefully they can elaborate on the dual class features like the Paladin and Lich.
